I thought that last year they should have won over Boston. They just committed mistakes down the stretch. I remember every loss was a close one that they should have won (yes I hate Boston that much).

I always hated his rotations . I always hated how all their teams have some awkward offensive sets without much fluidity.
I always hated how he milked starters until they are all broken.

But i think he got max out of Knicks. Unlike Bulls.

Missing expectations have consequences. Thibs becomes an easy target when things going wrong given his methods for better or worse.

From ESPN:
Thibodeau guided the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference finals since 2000. .... Thibodeau finishes his tenure in New York with 24 playoff wins, 17 more than the team's past 13 coaches combined.

I agree. Thibs raised their floor while their ceiling is capped by roster construction decisions.

I found this note from my Athletic Email newsletter interesting. I also fully hate the Thunder, but I think it is mostly jealousy on my part.

What do you guys think?

Are the Thunder a team people don't like?

I’ve been trying to figure something out about this Thunder team as they seem to be on the cusp of winning their first NBA championship. Do people outside of Oklahoma City hate this team? Maybe hate is too strong of a word, especially considering how loosely it’s used in sports on the internet. But something I’ve noticed during this run by the Thunder, as they’ve trounced the league in front of them, is how little people outside of the Thunder fan base appear to be embracing them as a team they like and enjoy.

It’s confusing for a few reasons. After all, this is a …

Small-market team that should give hope to all.
Extremely young roster with an average age of under 26 years old.
Squad with a fun, fast-paced style of play that is dominant on both ends.
Contender with an unguardable star player who just won MVP.
Coach proving you don’t need a good haircut to succeed in life.

This Thunder team is deep and awesome, and yet I tend to find negativity thrown its way along this journey. I’ve wondered if some of this is just the bubble I’m in with friend groups and on social media. I have some friends with some basketball opinions I really respect, and so few of them have embraced enjoying this Thunder team. I’ve asked them what their issue is and these are some of the replies:

“I don’t like that they’re this good and have all those picks.”
“I don’t like that they stole the team from Seattle.”
“The NBA facilitated their theft from Seattle and spent the last 15 years steadily changing the rules to benefit OKC.”
“OKC represents a system that overincentivizes the draft.”
“Their corny bull is an affront to the league I love.”
    “They’re corny.”
    “SGA is a free-throw merchant.”
“The team interviews on the sideline are so stupid.”
“SGA gets too many calls. Ruins the fun.”
“They get away with too much contact on defense. But you can’t touch them.”

There were more, but this seems like a good representation. The most common ones were the accusations of corniness, the foul calls and the Seattle factor. But everybody also seemed resigned to the fact that they’re going to win the title, and were wondering if people will care at all, outside of OKC.

OKC's championship will change nba.

But not in ways people think.

Due complete lack of interest in Indiana or OKC from mainstream media and very little feedback from fans, even somebody as dumb as Silver will ( mostly due tv ratings decline ) figure that NBA never had parity problem because fans only want parity as long as top teams stay on top.

NBA, like any other league, is at it's finest when biggest teams are in finals.

I'm firm believer that NBA will use their options to get out of current CBA sooner than later. Aprons make team tear down rosters. Nobody wants to watch league with 20 rebuilding teams because teams can't afford stars pass year 9.

Until NBA pivots back into traditional- big markets friendly direction ( because, again, that's best for everybody ) OKC's blueprint of getting talent before rookie contract exst. kick in. Use lower cap to add assets and talents. Winning title with young players isn't pipe dream.

Silver makes sense but the Steelers aren't necessarily a small market. They are almost like the spurs in the sense that they have had a bunch of success and looked at as having a certain pedigree. As well as the Packers, they are very well known around the United States. NFL is hard to compare cause it's the biggest sport in the United States and most of the teams are well known nationally

A more realistic small market/ lesser accomplished super bowl comparable would be something like Carolina Panthers/ Arizona cardinals vs Jacksonville jaguars or something like that.

Sort of the like the Texas rangers vs Arizona diamondbacks world series from 2023.

Yay, lets forget about the Magic and all become LA, Knicks, Spurs and Boston fans with zero use for watching the regular season because hey, we know who will be in the finals. That would be only 7 games I would need to watch anymore. Silver is smarter than that, he markets the players, not the teams except for the Lakers of course.

I am dumbfounded as to why fans would f’ing care about the market size of the teams playing… do you enjoy the sport or is there another reason why you watch???

After the Magic lose, I don’t care who makes it to the finals as long as good basketball is being played. It’s f’ing entertainment not a popularity contest. I swear I don’t hear fans of other sports talk about ratings anywhere near as much as NBA ‘fans’
