Is it that subset of fans who want an offense that is more stagnant than the one Thibs ran?

I guess there IS someone for everyone!

They are looking for a Championship coach not a young upstart. It will be either Bud or Malone.

Bryant can be the coach of the future

Obviously the mistakes throughout the playoffs were the nail in the coffin for Thibs, but there were many other contributing factors. Leon gave up 5 picks for Bridges and you could tell that he wasn't happy with Thibs. When he spoke out about the minutes, I knew it would linger in Leon's head for the rest of the season. Bench guys were unhappy and now we're hearing rumblings about how non starters around the league would never want to play under Thibs because they wouldn't have any opportunity to play. Ex-players on podcasts are calling Thibs playmaking ancient. etc.etc.etc. It all adds up.

Its not about any of that. They want someone who knows how to crack the code of winning a title. Everyone can have ideas, few have actually accomplished it.

i'm just saying, even if he has no resume as a head coach, the organization knows his work intimately already and might have been impressed

I'm sure they like him but let's not get it twisted, he was originally brought here because the plan was getting Donovan Mitchell, not because he was Spolstra in waiting

How can you possibly know if he is going to be a great coach?

Not saying im opposed to him or another unknown coach. Its just wild to be in on an uunproven coach when we are close to a championship.

Steve Kerr.
Ime Udoka.
Joe Mazzulla.
Tyronne Lue.

C'mon dude. If you know basketball in this modern era, all you need to build is clout. Johnnie Bryant would know how to utilize this roster.

The fact that Hart forced himself to the bench suggests he might have been out on Thibs too.

I think a lot of the players were fond of him but saw the issues.

The good and the bad about him is glaring.

I don't think it'll be Malone. Might as well have just kept Thibs if that's the case. I think Bud's time in the sun is over; he's lost the support of some major stars, fair or not

It is 1000% neither Bud or Malone
Malone burned bridges with Dolan when he was an assistant coach here in the early 2000s
Bud has no connections with the Knicks

I think people are focusing too much on the tactics with the next hire. The most important thing for the next coach is to unite the locker room, in pursuit of the championship.

I've been thinking and a lot of the stuff we've seen in this locker room are things all talented teams go through. Lack of motivation, inability to sacrifice, egos...this is what happens when you put a lot of highly paid talent together. We got a bunch of dudes in their prime who want to get paid and have the NYC pressure and all of them have to do the dirty work and trust each other. The best coaches are able to navigate the tactics and relationships. Pop got Manu to come off the bench, Riley was doing stuff like almost drowning himself to motivate his team, Kerr getting guys to buy into his system.

i felt that way too, but i'm just reading the tea leaves here. thibs was very suddenly fired before the finals are over shortly after bryant was announced as final 2 contender for phoenix gig. now vegas has him at top of the odds. all feels relevant, but far from a forgone conclusion obviously

This is it. They need to be able to put pieces around these guys that can play at a high level off the bench. If those guys dont see an avenue for playing time, they aren't even going to look at the team as an option. You could see the frustration growing with Precious on the bench and could tell he was checked out sitting there.

To say that the players had Thibs fired is narrow-minded. Sure the players provided intel but management have been monitoring the situation all year.

Even in the first round against Detroit, I was wondering why our Team's game plan was not attacking Tobias Harris, who is an awful defender. That's on the scheme, a decision made by the coaches. Hence we made the series harder than it should have been.
Sure the players failed in game 6 vs Indy, but ultimately, not calling the proper timeouts and losing game 1 @ home or being unprepared and losing again in game 2 @ home may have ultimately cost Thibs his seat.

We don't need to worry about Brunson. Man is made in the mold of Jeter, not Rodgers.

I'm sorry but this isn't a good move.

It absolutely is.

I have lived this already - the Bulls have been trash outside of his tenure from 1999 on just like the Knicks have been since 2003.

You didnt have Jalen Brunson.
