Re: Breaking: Tom Fired
You can do worse on some things, I'm sure, including wins, but you can't have a coach who doesn't manage the clock normally in the playoffs, or who lets his players do whatever on things like clock management.

holy **** he’s back
it's not the same account. the join date is too new. unless he got banned back in the day. i can't remember.
I just tried to find the OG Talking Clam account but was unable.
Also possible they forgot their original login info themselves and made a new account. This could be the real talking clam, sham.

We're not gonna. Chuck Daly's not walking through that door.
It'll have to be somebody who is either new to NBA HCing or ready to step up with a roster that fits them.

Did you watch the last yelling guy's defensive video? Granted YT videos easy to dismiss but Mikal was taking the wrong route on screens, OG was standing still when he was supposed to be helping to close a gap, right in front of him. It's not just to defend Karl, they should trade him if they think they can upgrade, but the team was not doing certain technique and awareness things. That has to fall on the coach -- at least partly.

the new coach needs to tell hart stop preparing for 40 minutes we don't need that...
we need you around 28-30 minutes and work on your jumper all offseason.

I don't know if he is the proper hire as I don't follow college basketball though I have a negative bias against college coaches moving up to professional ranks. Most of them seem to fail and the ones who have succeeded are usually professional coaches who went down to the college ranks before returning to the professional ones. The best example of this is Pete Carroll.
That said, I remember reading Hurley's wife grew up here and doesn't want to leave. It makes a lot of sense that he wouldn't be open to a job in Los Angeles but would be open to one in New York City.

Re: Breaking: Tom Fired
Man, I was so relieved when I got this notification on my phone. I have believed, and continue to believe, in the talent of this roster since the KAT trade, but checked out on this team just before the all star break exclusively because of the coaching. There will never be an easier path to the Finals than what the Knicks saw this year, and the Knicks were coached out of most of the advantages that made them favorites in many of these postseason games. My perspective was always that, against the better teams/coaches, Thibs was largely an anchor. His coaching style/philosophy was unpliable and stiff - we will make choices about how we will play in the beginning, and then will win games by being more committed, tougher, and determined in enacting those choices than our opponents.
The problem with that has always been that everyone eventually gets figured out, and adapted to, especially against the best, and to not be easily dispatched requires proactivity and nuance from the coaching. Trying to brute force strategy against the best of the best all the way to a title has an almost 0% chance of working unless you have the clear greatest player in the world. Yes, the style can lead to a good amount of general success if applied well, as Thibs does, but it cannot win the ultimate prize.
Relying on the equivalent of building up pain tolerance and callouses is a good thing when it comes to getting into big fights, but if it's the ONLY way you train yourself, when a nuanced knife fighter shows up and makes deep cuts after realizing your weaknesses, the only thing you can do is hope the blood happens to coagulate before you bleed out. There's no understanding of triage, applying a tourniquet, of adapting to your opponent's tendencies, and you often actually play right into their hands because they know you are just going to keep spamming the same brute force tendencies and multiply the damage, making yourself bleed out even faster.
Anyway, I'm appreciative of Thibs raising the floor on this team, and happy for the guy that he gets a free $30M. I hope they nail the next coach, because I am convinced this roster can compete for a title. And I am so happy that I get to enjoy the offseason now, knowing that the Knicks are serious about finding a more proactive and adaptive coaching style to try and actually bring a title to NYC.

OT: I really don't get how old guys like Belichick aren't embarassed about how they conduct themselves publicly. They have kids and they have to know their kids are embarassed when dad's f-ing someone younger than them.
If his children are worried about the age of the woman he chooses to sleep with, that’s strange. I would hope they’re smarter than that. Older men like young beautiful women. Young women like older men with resources. It’s been that way since the dawn of humanity. We’ve put an age restriction in place to protect people who are not developed enough to make these decisions. Outside of that, everybody needs to mind their own business.
Should his kids also be embarrassed if he sleeps with a 400 pound woman? Or a man? Or a black woman? People’s sexual or romantic preferences (as long as they’re legal) are their own business.
