Because Jrue SUCKED in the playoffs as a primary scoring option off of Giannis. He's great in Boston as a 4th/5th scoring option no one guards with good defenders, but he was horrendous offensively in their last playoff run. They knew they couldn't win with Jrue as a secondary scorer next to Giannis and gambled on Dame. It didn't work out, but it was a move they had to do to compete in the East.

Jrue was never supposed to be the secondary scoring option to Giannis. That's not who he is. That was supposed to Middleton.

When the Bucks did win it all in 2021, Middleton averaged almost 24 pts in the playoffs.

And Jrue did his thing as well in those playoffs, averaging 17pts, 8.7 assists, 5.7 rebs and 1.7 stls. Holiday is a winner.
That's kind of my point. Dame at most these days don't give you an edge enough to justify him over jrue. The terrible moves just compound if you rewind back to what they had before that trade they were better off and maybe could have turned Middleton and assets into something better than Kuz.

If Cavs get swept or it's a gentlemen's sweep, they have some serious cap questions next season. Mobley, Garland and Mitchell on max contracts. Hunter and Allen make at least $20 mil each. Strus makes $15 mil+ and Okor who is a non-factor makes $11 million per. It's untenable.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Do they blow it up or try and make some pivots

They win game three and come back to take the series by winning 4 of the last 5.

Cavs in 7.
Bye bye Beal.

If I had to guess, they trade Allen. They could be a low key Giannis suitor. Something like Hunter/Okoro/Allen for Giannis.

If you're Nico do you trade Flagg + filler for Giannis?

On one hand you say absolutely not. On the other hand Giannis + AD is maybe greatest 4/5 defensive tandem in history and you can still keep Kyrie...sooo.

And there's still some chance Flagg is more fringe all-star than franchise level.

They’re not getting Giannis without including Mobley. Maybe Garland too.

If you’re the Spurs, do you draft another PG/Guard?
Interesting comments.

Most of this is just posturing. They’re not gonna announce that they want to trade Harper.

Ultimately, I think one of Harper, Castle and Fox must go. But that doesn’t have to happen this summer.

I didn't even realize that the hornets drafted SGA originally and traded him to the clippers for Miles Bridges on draft day. So they actually drafted Kobe and SGA, then traded them immediately.

Anyone remember when Thibodeau was an assistant coach, or defensive coach, or defensive head coach, or whatever coach not head coach, for the Wizards? His coaching stint with the Wizards literally lasted less than 24 hrs, as I recall.

Heading into the 2007-08 season Ernie hired him to be defensive coordinator on Eddie Jordan’s staff. He lasted one day (serious), did not feel was a good fit and went to Boston with Doc Rivers and won a ring. Good move on his part.

Ha! According to Nick Young, GIL had him fired after one practice.

LOL, Gil was running the organization, I totally believe that was way it went down.

I recall it was in July 2007.

I search info'd to confirm my recollection and found his:

Thibodeau was not Eddie Jordan's guy. He probably told EJ that the lineup Jordan preferred was poor defensively because he wouldn't play Haywood.

Eddie liked Etan Thomas and Darius Songaila at C when Haywood was a monster defensively..
Bye bye Beal.

I wonder if that one day is the shortest tenure for an NBA coach ever...

I forgot about that. Footnote in the Book of SoWiz. But an important, hilarious one.

Truly a poverty franchise.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?
