AD to Detroit
DET trades: Ron Holland, Jaden Ivey, Tobias Harris, 2026 DET 1st, 2028 DET 1st, 2030 DET 1st
DAL trades: Anthony Davis
Detroit gets a top-10 player to pair with Cunningham in a weak Eastern Conference. Dallas gets two interesting young players to pair with Flagg and add three future firsts. Detroit will have to rebalance their roster a bit, but I think they can use Duren, etc. to get a small forward.

I just don't see Dallas as being too interested in moving an actual star for a bunch of maybes.

I don't see a team that was burned on Blake Griffin doing this.
0 chance Postons are able to pull AD level talent with such package, but age matters in trades and health projection, theybare young, they can afford to take it slowly.

Re: AD to Detroit
Value seems fine, but I don't know that I see either team doing this. Detroit doesn't feel ready for one last piece and Niko won't consider AD trades.
I'd also let Detroit keep Ivey as they'd want his offense still I think and have them replace the value another way so Dallas isn't forced to make an immediate extension decision on a guy coming off an injury that they haven't had a chance to see in their system.

Re: AD to Detroit
The Mavs gave up a top 5 player for AD- that’s the value they place on him.
They won’t turn around and deal him for this.
On the flip side this doesn’t really make sense for the Pistons, AD’s availability and age don’t line up with their goals or timeline.

And that's our crutch. AD at half his price...$30 mil is too much. Still sore ove the Luka trade for someone with negative value given his age, health and salary.

Don’t understand your post.
Trading AD would result in a happier Dallas fan base than not trading AD. There were a few ones that wanted him traded before winning the lottery, but now the vast majority.
If you hadn’t included the second line, yeah. Unless Nico gets fired it’s hard to imagine him being willing to announce Dallas is shifting to a younger timeline and trading AD. Doesn’t seem like Nico has that in him.

They just traded for AD so they can try and win now, why would they trade away AD now? especially for meh type of players, they are all in with AD they won't trade him at the very least this coming season.

Yes. I responded to that.. though the OP is a good volume package imo. Not great, but good

What I don’t get is the Nico wanted to live line. His popularity would only rise if he did that. Not much. But yeah.

Re: AD to Detroit
I would definitely prefer this package to any of the Houston proposals where Dallas has to take on the albatross that is Jalen Green. Tobias is expiring and a solid vet that can also allow us to get rid of Klay and Caleb. Dalals should have gotten those # of picks for Luka, and Ivey/Holland is a young core. Though like Chuck said, the Ivey extension scares me. I'd probably let Detroit keep him and rework some things, or try to package Ivey/Holland for the best young SG/PG they can buy.

Many reasons, some his fault, some not his
1. He was the centerpiece in arguably the most lopsided, illogical trade in NBA history
2. Piss poor attitude - forced his way out of NO to go to only LA, and is a diva about playing the 5 even though its best for the team
3. Always injured, I'm sure many times he could have fought through it and played, but didn't.
4. With Dallas being blessed with the #1 pick, the timeline should change now.
5. All the things above, not worth 54 mil a year

Can't see either team being interested in this. AD is 32 and the pistons aren't just 1 player away from a championship push. Dallas isn't ready to admit their contending window is closed.

We were a play-in team baby. We were this close....

I hope the Mavs brain trust doesn't honestly hold the delusion this team is a contender, but you might be right that they think they are....

Re: AD to Detroit
For Detroit, I don't mind the players we're sending out in this, but three firsts would kill pretty much all of our future flexibility and I just don't see this as the finishing move for a contender, so it'd lock us into a core that I don't think is "there" yet.

1 - Not his fault.
2 - Never been a diva about playing the 5. Has said numerous times he'll do whatever is best for the team. Has played Center for three years now. You blame him for wanting out of NO?
3 - Tell us, Doctor, what were the injuries he could have played through? And yet, over the last 3 seasons (22-25) he has played more games than Giannis, as many as Steph, and only 12 less than Luka.
4 - Why? Just use and bring Flagg along slowly like the Spurs did Kawhi. (Not as slow)
5 - The MLE, which is largely given to average players, is $15M... AD is worth 3x that. Unless maybe you're just stuck in 2019 NBA pay structures?

Re: AD to Detroit
Lots of good posts. Reasonable value in OP. A few more thoughts…
Obviously bad Luka trade, and Nico might get lynched, but with Flagg coming in and Kyrie out, maybe a time for a full rebuild? So trading AD makes sense to me.
Pistons could use him and actually let him play PF. Not worried about the fit.
Downside is future cap space and what the Pistons would have to give up. Ausar, Ivey and Holland are three good young wings, so losing two of them would certainly hurt the future. And even though those three firsts would all be in the 20s, that’s a lot of draft capital.
All things considered, Detroit should be patient and use their resources on getting a younger PF.

Maybe Mavs fans would like it, I certainly think they'd be better off trading AD if they can find a good return. However, there's a simple fact: Nico Harrison was able to (somewhat) explain the meager return by stating over and over that he had one target alone, AD, and that's why he supposedly didn't shop Luka around to trigger a bidding war that could maximize the return.
If Nico now turns around and trades AD for assets, that one out he had goes away and he is exposed in his strategy, and people inevitably will start to compare the final return (original + follow-up trades) to what he could have gotten in the first place had he acted like anyone else would. That would put him again in the spotlight, which might (understandably) cost him his job unless this time he truly gets a kings ransom.
So it may be in his personal best interest to hold on to AD and pray results come fast, even if that doesn't necessarily align with the Mavs best long term interests, at least in my opinion.

Yeah. That’s seems a very reasonable take on the current Mavs.
There’s no saving Nico (at least in Dallas fans eyes) over the Luka trade..
But trading AD would only make Dallas fans happier? Which was all I was responding to.
