Not taking your bait. Have a good day.

I legitimately don't know what you're talking about or what your original point was.

Not everything is a fight or a zero sum game to prove a point.

Fears seems to be wowing scouts. Lots of buzz about him going top 5.

i heard a rumour that Nets want to trade up to get him.

I know you like him MI, I'm just nervous about getting him at 4. Similar to Edey last year, I liked him, but i just thought 6 was too high.

And no I'm not comparing their abilities, Fears could work out to be an all star which I don't see Edey ever becoming. I could also see Fears flaming out.

He's honestly right behind Ace for me. I just never thought we would consider him because you know we have Melo at PG already.

Hopefully they give him serious consideration especially if Ace is not available.

Well in the unlikely event we draft him, I hope the FO locks him, Lamelo, and the coaching staff in a room and make them watch all of the Luka-Brunson and Luka-Kyrie Mavs entire playoff run.
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Imagine surrendering Luka-Brunson.

Whoopsies.

Salaün had boom or bust potential big time.

So I think Jeff could fall fatally attracted to someone like Fears if he likes the tools, the youth, the drive, the upside.

Young for his class, he carried a bad team to an NCAA tournament berth as a PG. And he was a nobody recruit. He has leveled up drastically compared to his peers who started from a higher position.

The turnovers and shot selection should not serve as an indictment for someone who came out of nowhere to lift his whole team to competitive basketball at such a young age.

I would think the scouts want to see year-over-year growth. So they have to look at how the college freshmen perform compared to their own baseline in HS. With upperclassmen the scouts would not assign the same weight to HS.

Freshman year would mark baseline for a sophomore. Fresh-soph for a junior, etc.

Fears is on a promising trajectory.

I think fans often make the mistake of exclusively comparing players to other players without evaluation of the player compared to his prior performance. It's not like teams don't send scouts to HS games. And every game is recorded.

Fans typically don't have those resources so we sit around listening to The Ringer and Kevin O'Connor. He's a blowhard. And so is Nata.

I absolutely love him, but I have no confidence we are even considering him.

I don't see how he and Melo can't play together. Move Melo to sg he has the size. They can both take turns running the offense. Fears is also a rim attacker something we lack. The only question would be defense Fears/Melo/Miller just doesn't feel like a defensive group.

I would love to be wrong, I just don't think he's on our radar.

I don't know for sure. While Jeff fell sucker to Salaün and took a HR hack at pick 6, I suspect the owners hired him based on his scouting background, knowing he profiles as someone adept at acquiring cheap labor.

Jeff seems kind of obsessive about accumulating draft capital and opening long windows of development for his projects.

If Jeff were to take Fears I'd have to recalibrate my outlook on Salaün. Maybe give him 2 more years.

oh i love the fit there, especially if Bilal can develop his 3 point shot next to him. Bilal, Bub and Sarr could work well with Fears.

Basically if you are a film guy or look at projectable skills you will be high on Fears. If you base most of your scouting at looking at stat logs to determine if a player is good you will be lower on him. Hence many of the twitter boards will have him outside the top 10 because they are all spread sheet heads that base their ranks on BPM, FG% and Assist/Turnover despite if you can't move your feet or score more than 18 inches from the rim.

These season review threads by Sheed on the Hawks are really useful:

Question for those of you that are high on fears, high enough to draft him at 4.
- how do you see the Hornets backcourt playing out in year 2+ if they were to draft fears?
- Do you think it works with fears and melo Eventually starting next to each other - Meaning by his 2nd season?
- Do you see fears as more of a high end 6th man and high level backup to melo?
- Or do you see fears as the eventual replacement as starting point guard allowing the Hornets to look for a melo trade?
