I'd rather see them roll the dice with their current group and pick up assets with future draft picks than gut their roster for a star player - only to lack depth.

Haha fair!
I will say (not that he's coming to Toronto) but this time does feel a bit different. I just don't see how the Bucks can build a winner around him in the near future.
Next year is a complete write off for the Bucks. Minimum.
Giannis tweet indicates this isn't real anyway. But he is still eventually going somewhere.

At a certain point though, if Giannis demands out and to a specific location - get ready to get reduced value.
I'm not saying Toronto is going ot get him, but history is not kind to that situation.
I was using ESPN and Portis was not available to trade. I beleive he is a free agent with a player option. May be wrong.

It’s Barnes, Dick and the ninth overall for Giannis and Portis.

I could see Brown from Cs dealt and going to TO. That's not Giannis level but a big get.
Giannis may go to Cs and so Brown could be dealt for him - but I'm not sure about the financials with Cs being able to take on GA.
Brown feels to me like a TO dark horse.

"Big" is probably aggressive description.
Brown isn't any better than Brandon Ingram on offense. Better defender, for sure, but not really a hugely worthwhile pursuit for Toronto. And I don't think Boston wants to give up on Tatum, so getting rid of a sometime All-Star in his late 20s who was a feature part of two Finals runs and a title seems like throwing in their cards at this point.

I mean, I wonder how many teams would look at a choice of BI and Brown go eh, it's a toss up.
You just listed a lot of good Brown attributes. Tatum missing a season allows Cs to get out of apron hell.
I think Jrue/Zinger are the main candidates to do the above, but what they get back is more limited than what they could get for Brown.
TO has good assets that give Cs flexibility they need for Brown. Like TO would be getting the best player back here.

What team in the league would voluntarily trade value for Jaylen Brown now? He put up this stat line last season while surrounded by talent on one of the best teams in the league:
22.2 PPG
5.8 RPG
4.5 APG
1.2 SPG
0.3 BPG
2.6 TOV
32.4% 3PT
55.5% True Shooting
+0.0 Box +/-
5.2 Win Shares
Those are not even All-Star numbers for a player who has over $236M in salary coming to him over the next four seasons and was the 8th highest paid player in the league this season, it's absolutely comical that the Celtics gave him the supermax.

This is true. We're like the 2000s Knicks; every star is a moment away...
I totally buy that Giannis could be a Raptor. But Masai aint trading for Embiid just cause the man is from the same continent, thats ridiculous.
By now, it is the tanking teams that would only trade for Embiid, willing to absorb that contract if you send few firsts two. You getting any assets in return from Embiid are joever my friends, man is cooked.

The Raptors had almost a decade of making the playoffs and being a high seed. They kept running into Lebron James.
We just needed one player that can lift the whole team, and get a bucket when needed. Kawhi was that guy.
The team had:
Kyle Lowry: 6× NBA All-Star (2015–2020), All-NBA Third Team (2016)
Marc Gasol: 3× NBA All-Star (2012, 2015, 2017), All-NBA First Team (2015), All-NBA Second Team (2013), NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2013), NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2013)
Pascal Siakam: NBA Most Improved Player (2019) Future 2× NBA All-Star (2020, 2023), All-NBA Second Team (2020), All-NBA Third Team (2022)
Danny Green: NBA Champion (2014), NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2017)
Serge Ibaka: 3× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2012–2014)
Fred VanVleet: NBA Champion (2019), NBA All-Star (2022)
Not to forget: OG and Norm Powell.
That's really, really not a fluke.
People underrate the heck out of that 2019 team
Raptors won 22 out of the 24 quarters against the warriors , they were lucky it even went to 6 games. KD was already out and Idgaf what anyone says, we were beating anyone that year

Thats extremely interesting. I haven't thoguht about that.
Ty Jerome is an unrestricted FA so can't be traded, but some sort of package around Garland/Allen might be pretty interesting to them if they are trying to still be a good team, given that they don't have any picks. The big problem is that the Cavs don't really have any picks to trade. 1 first and 2 swaps.
would the Bucks trade him within their division without getting one of the Cavs top 2 players back? I don't see it. Mobley would have to be offered in my opinion.

I was making a joke about how New York was rumored to be involved with every major FA signing for like a decade and a half.

Context-independent? Probably not too many. He's a better defender, even if he isn't much healthier and isn't any better a scorer.
Tatum missing a season allows Cs to get out of apron hell.
Don't see why assassinating half of their core duo is the move there, but I suppose financial considerations could make it happen.
TO has good assets that give Cs flexibility they need for Brown. Like TO would be getting the best player back here.
But again, the fit makes no sense. Moving assets for him would be a mistake because he's too redundant with a lot of what we already have. He would be a maximal low-half treadmill move... and he tops out at $65m / yr.
No thanks.

Luck is always a factor, but why didn't Houston beat them without Durant?

I agree injury luck is also the factor, but they were underdogs. Tho I agree they are far from flukiest champions. I think people believe that simply because it is the Raptors, I feel none of us ever expected Raptors would win a championship, and even when they were best ever before that, they were still ''Lebronto'', so even in their conference finals days, people wanted to see them as a joke. I feel it it was any other franchise, with better history, if they were in same situation, making deep play off runs numerous times, then trading for superstar and x DPOY big, and winning it all, people would not consider that fluky at all.
I still very sad Jonas was traded, I understand that without Marc, they probably never win, but I don't know, Jonas could play post D, and that was Marcs ultimate contribution in 76ers series. Wanted Jonas to be Toronto lifer, but he just became a journeyman after that, guy was a freaking Wizard

Fred becoming a father won them the ship, I remember he was freaking terrible that whole play off run, until his child was born and he just flipped it.

People are always gonna cry about that Raps chip, they hurt a lot of feelings on their way, I love the tears personally. Don't know why people get triggered when people try to slander that run...if you know you know.
But the one part that does bother me is the fact that people act like KD being injured somehow means the Raps deserved an *. Everyone seems to forget that before KD joined they were ALREADY arguably one the best teams in history. How it was SO unfair that he joined them and how much of an unfair advantage they had over the league. He goes down and all of a sudden its so lopsided in TORs favor(they had injuries to, not to mention the long series' they played leading up to that point). Without KD they won 73 games...cry me a river
