Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I think the Spurs take Essengue #2. He's the second youngest player in the draft, only 3 days older than Flagg. He's from France like Wemby and fits their team.
If they don't take him at #2, they could trade down a little.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
Here is my list of players that we could take a flyer on in the 2nd round. are they stars? no. but I think they can be role players.
Grant Nelson (Alabama bias i know) - solid defensively, great passer, tough and gritty, has shot 3 ball in the past, just needs to work on it a little more
Broome - bench big. solid defensively and good shot blocker. not great 3 pt shooter.
Koby Brea - lesser Cory Kispert. 4 years high volume 3 pt shooter (for college) averaging over 40% in the SEC. purely catch and shoot 3 pt shoot, wont break teams down. solid defensively, but by no means lock down defender.
Mark Sears (another Alabama bias) - prolific scorer, off year 3 pt this year, but 43% last year. high FT%, so shot is solid. undersized at 5'11. more combo guard, but can be scorer off bench. think Isaiah Thomas a few years ago before injury.
Kam Jones - bad 3pt in senior year (2 other years at 40% on high volume), but can create offense for himself many ways. solid defender, comparisons to DiVincenzo.

If you REALLY believe that..you should get on one of the betting sites - I think you'd get incredible return on a small bet.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
Spurs should not overthink Harper IMO. I really believe he is a #1 type player most years. If they are trading for a star, sure, but otherwise just take Harper.
On Essengue: When I watch his tape nothing about his skill pops for me. I really worry about his ability to score on the perimeter in the NBA. Seems like he uses his length and athleticism to dominate-- his length is good, but many can match it in the NBA... That being said, his production at his age in a pro league is really nice. And even despite what I said I probably would have him top 10 based off of that alone. You never know who is going to randomly develop their game after they are drafted and become that supercharged do it all wing, but I can definitely see a team drafting high hoping it is him.
I think Essengue and Coward have fallback skills to be nice role players even if they don't add to their game, but if we are talking about guys who could add I think Will Riley has a nice potential offensive package. Way less defensive floor than them though.

Matt Moore substack info.
Jase Richardson has picked up steam and I think is closer to 10 than 20 right now, but anywhere in that range sounds right.

I think he goes top 15 considering the lack of scoring in this draft.

My prediction is closer to mid 20s than late teens.
Teams know for every undersized scoring guards like Brunson, there are a dozen more that we never heard of

Would you guys trade Cole, Jett and #16 for Malik Monk?
I could see SAC squeezing us for AB, Tristian instead of Jett.

I’m pretty close to accepting the trade above. It’s a no if AB is required and probably TDS.

If they take KCP, yes

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I'm still leaning towards drafting both firsts and trading both seconds, unless it is a trade for Simons or Garland.

You want a rookie over Monk?

I mean probably? Seems mostly fine. He is pretty good and under contract for 2-3 relatively affordable years.
I do like Jase, Clayton and Traore's potential as guards of the future, but reality is all of these guys still have a very high chance to fail. Of course it feels bad if one becomes an all-star but we do need some help now.
I could definitely see someone arguing that Monk isn't enough of a needle mover to be worth 16, but given how bad our need is I think it would be fine.

Yes. I would not trade a first for Monk, personally.RichCollab wrote:eyriq wrote:I'm still leaning towards drafting both firsts and trading both seconds, unless it is a trade for Simons or Garland.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
You know there have been some legendary draft meltdowns on this board. Still remember the Franz one that everyone wants to pretend didn’t happen. But I think all of them would pale in comparison to the absolute crazy meltdown of Walter Clayton being on the board at 16 and us not trading the pick and taking Will Riley. I would prepare yourself because I haven’t looked in to a lot of players yet but he stands out with big blinking lights as a Weltman player.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

LOL, I get what you're saying, but I wouldn't be mad at this. I would be OK with a Will Riley swing. There was a time probably not even a month ago where it would have upset me though. More I have watched of him I like his feel, pretty smart passer, decent handle, potential to play the 2. Shooting efficiency was the issue, but shot looks OK, looks like he has potential to be a volume 3 shooter. IDK probably has a high bust chance, but feels like a guy who could add a serious offensive bag.
I'm fine with a Clayton pick too though. Would have them pretty close on my board and both as fine picks at 16 IMO.

You mean if we pass on Clayton at 25
