Michael Kay just said he was told by a higher up at MSG that Thibs is "a great guy, but a real pain in the ass, it was either his way or the highway."

I noticed that at the beginning of this season, and my coworker got courtside tickets during the regular season and also mentioned this as well. Hope he takes care of his health.

Yeah….almost feels like maybe Rose did his buddy a solid…who knows

The candidates will be scared when they find out it's a one year contract with a team option.

What coach out there will be confident enough to take a "NBA finals or bust" job?

The money will have to be insane. But then at that point, it can just be a paycheck and bounce/retirement kinda thing .

Bryant…. Only because this is arguably the best opportunity he will ever have to become a head coach. If it’s between a team built to tank or a team built to win I think most new coaches would want a team built to win. Especially if you have confidence in yourself you can get them there.

Maybe Kidd since he’s experienced and got Luka to the finals last year, though I legit think he is a smokescreen. I think Bryant is the hire, but they are trying to make a show of it. Similar to when they hired Thibs.

if someone gets hired and loses in round 2 next year or god forbid round 1, that might be it. you might get fired.

if you're a young coach it might be it for you career. you might not get another chance in the league.

it's risky for both sides. you have to really nail this choice

Nah they're different. JVG is much more adaptable and less rigid thinking than Thibs. I don't think they have the same faults.

How do you know that? JVG hasn't coached since 2007. He's more of an unknown than the rest.

I mean, does that quote surprise anyone?

He reminds me a bit of a boss I once had. Gruff guy with a military background but underneath it had a really good heart. Like, he gave me a kids kitchenette that he built himself after my first daughter was born but try to get some feedback on a project and it was like walking into a war room. He came in when the organization was struggling and put in a lot of procedures that really helped pull us up and establish solid organizational structure. Once the org was standing better his limitations including a complete lack of understanding of legal matters and rigidity in how he dealt with certain situations became a handicap.

He eventually resigned and the organization moved forward well but from a position that he was instrumental in building.

I was very intrigued reading the blurbs about Ott in the initial Shams tweet, but now seeing that he's a Spartan has me all the way skeptical.

He coached this past season in LA and was very creative with his defense.

If Bryant is struggling to get the Suns job over another coach, is that an indictment on him? Didn't he also struggle to become a HC last off-season? (Associate HC is a bit different)

Thibs wasn't fired because he didn't make the Finals.

He was fired because:

- refused to use his bench

- had to be down 0-2 in a series before using the bench players and when he did they helped the team win games

- had Josh in the starting lineup for the entire season when everyone watching the game saw opposing teams would ignore him to double-team other players when Deuce could've spaced out the court with his 3 point shooting

- refused to run the offense through the willing passer in KAT, to instead have everyone stand in the corner while being forced to watch Jalen dribble out the entire shot clock

- since his first season as the head coach teams have been running the same screen play for open 3 pointers, and he would continue to use drop coverage and it took until Game 6 against the Celtics to finally defend it

- allowed opposing teams to dictate the players he would have on the court by only playing starters vs starters and bench players vs bench players

- watched how better the offense looked when Jalen was out because everyone was involved in the offense, and reverts the offense back to iso-ball when Jalen returns

I didn't want to say this but when Brunson had to tell Tom to take the starters out during Game 6 versus Boston...that looked very odd, like he wasn't present in the moment.

As someone who is caring for two aging parents...that really bothered me.

And Kolek has to be in the mix. Him and Deuce could be a second unit backcourt.

Not sure what they plan for Dadiet, but the one I wouldn't sleep on is McCullar. If his body is sound the guy could be a monster defensively and maybe capable offensively.

if the next coach expands the rotation to 10, kolek is probably in there like swimwear.

i watched him through his college career and i'm ASHAMED of how much video i watched leading up to the draft. i lost my **** when we picked him. also really liked the defensive improvement i saw when he got back in. we'll need facilitation in the second unit and he could absolutely bring that.

Just imagine we may have our own TJ McConnell, with better 3, more pesky D, more fancy passes and same punchable face (nah i meant rookie contract, sorry Tyler)in our own team.
Are you fans of the team or the player?

He could've also turned down or removed himself from the the Suns' job instead for the Knicks, because it went from him being a finalist, to Tom Thibodeau being fired, to the Suns hiring the next head coach a day later.

Close enough. No thanks. JVG runs dinosaur offenses.
