I think that is just a starting place, and not the actual trade. It does open up other more interesting options. RJ contract is a trouble long term. This could be part of the solution.
The offer wasn't 9th pick and RJ. It was 9th pick and bad contract...
We don't have a bad contract. But RJ is the logical guy to trade out of the starting 5 because of fit.
If we traded RJ for a couple players we could turn this deal into something more appropriate.
For example lets say the magic are interested in RJ.
Anthony Black, Gogo, and Cam and 19, 25 and 36 to the raptors
Cole Anthony and Colin Castleton and 9 to the Nets
RJ to the Magic.
This trade is just an example but it actually works in trade machine and would give us serious depth. Even if Magic said no the concept is the same. 3rd team gives up good player, bad player and capital to get RJ. We trade that bad player to Nets.

Critical thinking to realize there would be more to a deal is tough

Cam is a better fit than RJ on the Raps.
I’d do this
Cam is the type of player you need on a team led by either Scottie or Giannis. 6’8 shooter who can defend. Can play as a stretch 4. Great fit
makes me think this is why Masai was scouting games with players like Hugo Gonzalez earlier, even though our pick range was going to be way too high for that type of player…a deal like this to trade down…

Re: Free Agency & Trades Rumours Thread
If the Pels are actually open to moving anybody on the roster, forget any talks about trading down for Cam or flame away, I'd even back out of mortgaging everything for Giannis or even half a mortgage on KD and go for....
TREY MURPHY.
Now that's a player I'd give up the 9th pick for that would also be an excellent fit both on court & timeline wise. I understand that it still may not be enough to get us over the top but personally I believe a trio of Trey/BI/Scottie with good depth would be good enough to compete with anyone in the East (unless somehow one of them did add Giannis) and I don't think we would have to come anywhere close to mortgaging the team. I could see them tops being able to ask for one more decent young player (ie/ RJ + Gradey + 9th - heck if they did ask for 2nd first I'd prob do it), we'd still have plenty depth and most of our future 1sts to make more moves. Maybe flip Ochai for a late 1st to get Hansen Yang and I think that team can be pretty damn good with development & flexibility to get even better in time....again this is IF the rumors are true that the Pels would consider trading anyone on the roster.

Now I'm curious.
You don't think a rotation of a top 8 rotation of IQ, Walter, Dick, Black, BI, Scottie, Yak, Cam isn't excellent?
Where is the problem here?
The draft picks would add future depth, but it is always the top 8 that wins you games and this is a pretty damn good top 8. Having Shead, Goga, Mogbo, Battle plus some combination of Sorber/Fleming/Clayton/Gonzalez/Traore/Wolf/Saraf would give us multiple quality players that have high upside.

Re: Free Agency & Trades Rumours Thread
The big problem with any sort of Nets trade is that, beyond injury concerns with Cam, beyond having to extend him and beyond his offense not being varied...even if it's 19 + a future first, the picks they have aren't all that interesting? I guess there's Philly's 2027 1st (I'm pretty sure this is getting pushed to 2028 but I could be wrong about that) and whatever remains of their 2029 1st i.e. between Dallas & PHX but there's not a whole lot of value in said draft capital beyond "bigger number better".
That aside, they really don't have any outstanding young talent so the only other option that's of intrigue is...I dunno, trading Nic Claxton + Cam + 19 for RJ + Ochai + 9, then moving Poeltl to Phoenix for the 10th pick? Something like this:

Don't take this too seriously, I put this together in 5 minutes and just looking at it I get the feeling you could just cut us out of this deal and have #10 sent to the Nets instead.
EDIT: Did another one of these:

I think the concept is valid.
9 + RJ
Cam Solid starter/6th man plus picks.
I used Orlando as the third party but the idea is similar. RJ is expense and if we can turn him into Cam and another good young player then going from 9 to 19 and other assets is very intriguing.
Really comes down to how our front office/coach value RJ. If they see him as a core piece then I don't think a deal can be done. But if RJ is moveable for a pair of two way players.... Now we can get serious.

Cam Johnson really?
Masai is addicted to the treadmill
why not just draft Cedric Coward and maybe get a rich man's Trey Murphy some day

Cam johnson managed to average 18 ppg on the Brooklyn Nets. The team with nobody on it. No body. And this is the highest he's ever scored. In 31 minutes. 18 points. Even as sixth man on this team we'd be lucky if he averages more than Grady.

From a different perspective. Johnson was able to score 19 points per game on a 6-7% higher than league average TS with next to no help on the team.
That's pretty impressive.

But Cam wouldn't get hunted on defense and give it all back, like Gradey

That would be a great trade to split RJ into multiple useful pieces and more depth.
IQ Ochai BI Barnes Yak
Shead Walter Dick Cam Goga
Black Battle Mogbo #19, #25
2-way: Chomche, Lawson, #36
Or maybe you trade #25 for a 1st next year to spread things out and #36 is on a regular contract.
Certainly that team is build to withstand a few injuries with lots of playable depth and internal competition. Cam slides into a starting spot when Ingram, Barnes to Ochai miss games.

From the rumors of trade talks regarding Ingram, RJ still does not have much value in the trade market. CJ fits our team MUCH better than RJ especially if we are going with Ingram, Scottie, and IQ as our core pieces for the next 2-3 seasons. In terms of injuries, Giannis and KD also have a history of injuries as well. We solve a lot of problems with this trade proposal IMO - we can negotiate the draft picks if that is an issue. I remember there were a lot of posters here looking at trading down if the players we want are gone by 9; this is one of those scenarios.

Re: Free Agency & Trades Rumours Thread
In the case of an RJ+9 for Cam & 19 trade, wouldn't we also get enough cap space to spend the MLE (without going into the tax?). So it could give us room to bring in a backup Center as well, like Lopez, Cappela, Adams, Looney, Powell, Kornet, Bryant, etc. Or it could give us some room to take on a bigger contract in a trade without being right up against the tax.
There have been rumours of us wanting to get off of RJ's contract, so it's not crazy.
Obviously, if we think there's a chance of getting Giannis, or if there's a guy our FO loves at #9, then this isn't a trade you do. But I do think there's some merit to the idea, and I do like the idea of having a legit top #100 player available to start if Scottie or Ingram go down.

BK has Clowney and Sharpe. Trade RJ and #39 for Nic Claxton and #27 (draft Raynaud or Markovic)
BK gets a starting SG that is still young.
PG IQ - Shead - JaKobe
SG JaKobe/Dick - IQ
SF Ingram - Agbaji - Battle
PF Scottie - Mogbo/Markovic
C Poeltl - Claxton - Chomche
