Whom would you have let go instead?

As for last night, live with Mitchell, die with Mitchell. Last night was live with Mitchell, plus the defense improved. Both good things that led to victory. But Boston getting only 5 shots ... she's averaging 6.7 shots per game without Clark, 12.7 with Clark. She really needs Caitlin to return.

Speaking of which, the Fever doesn't appear to have released any additional information about Clark's injury. They announced "at least 2 weeks" the weekend before last, which means in theory that Clark might miss only one more game, against the Sky on Saturday. But "at least" could also mean a lot longer, of course. We shall see.

They protected Smith, correct?

If so, should have left her unprotected.

Or Damiris Dantas.

Imagine how screwed this team is going to be if Boston misses any time.

Smith had trade value, the Fever used her to get Sophie Cunningham.

I really didn't think the Fever had it in them to beat the Mystics last night, but I guess I was being too pessimistic. I forgot about the up and down nature of this league. We'll see how they do against Chicago on Saturday.

Smith had no trade value imo other than as a matching contract.

I'd be stunned if GS would have even selected Nalyssa Smith.

Dantas has been good honestly. But yeah her over Temi also odd.

Maybe Timpson can somewhat fill in for Temi's spot though as an athletic defender.

Not sure if Dantas would have been taken in the draft, though. I was kind of thinking if they protected Temi theyd have both right now.

She might be back by 6/10?

I hope she's ready to ball vs Liberty

The official news on Clark's status: "We are monitoring the situation." Got it.

Lord forbid anybody but Cailtin Clark make a pass to Aliyah Boston. Sheesh.

Edit - OK, immediately after I wrote that the Fever started feeding her. Good job, people. Bad team, Chicago.

The Sky are really weak. I'm glad Indy's climbed back to .500, I was afraid they were really going to dig themselves a big hole.
Aari McDowell has been a smart signing for the Fever while our guards have been injured. Even if it's just temporary.

It looks as if her return will be against the Liberty, on Saturday. I mean, that hasn't yet been announced, but since she is once again practicing and the team is talking about how she just needs to get back into game shape, that seems like a reasonable bet. That's a tough way to restart.

If you can't be a winning team without your best player, you're not a contender. People thought the '93 Bulls were as much of a one-man show as could exist for a title winner, with Jordan averaging 35/7/6 throughout the playoffs (and 41 ppg in the Finals). But in '94 when Mike retired for the first time, the same team + Toni Kukoc won 55 games. Those Bulls were a good team without Mike. Not a contender, but unquestionably a winning squad.

It doesn't seem that the same can be said of the 2025 Fever, without Clark.

You have a team with two all stars and multiple previous all stars; you shouldn't get spanked like that with plenty of rest between games. maybe this CC injury was a blessing in disguise. Yes the team is better then last year, but perhaps its was only a small step forward instead of a leap into contention.

Well, the Fever are 2-3 without CC so far, it could certainly be worse. They straight up got dominated last night in the second half though.
Getting Clark back should boost the offense, but I'm not convinced the defense is good enough to make a real run at the title.

With 4 of those games being against teams with losing records, and the 5th being a blowout loss. Sheesh.

I don't think anyone is impressed, although I am surprised they beat the Dream, especially in retrospect. But still, it could be worse! That's sort of a philosophy with me that I find strangely comforting: It can always be worse.
