this also isn't the Knicks signing JR Smith brother...Rick Brunson has been a legit NBA coach for a while. Its not like he isn't qualified for the role like Chris Smith was for a roster spot.

It looks like Taylor Jenkins was mostly fired because Grizzlies thought more highly of his assistant (Tuomas Iisalo). It was rumored he was getting offers behind-the-scenes, so they Grizzlies wanted to go ahead and lock him up.

So I'm not sure if Taylor Jenkins is "our guy". It seems like the Grizzlies were in a similar situation as the Knicks. It wasn't necessarily that the HC was bad... but the front offices just thought it wasn't a coach that could take them to the promised land, so they sought change.

I'd say the Grizzlies are actually in a better situation because they had a replacement in mind and got him.
