Sarr, #18 for #2 (and Barnes)

Post#1 » by penbeast0 » Thu Jun 5, 2025 5:54 pm

I may not be as high on Dylan Harper as some but he has a chance to be a franchise PG. San Antonio has their lead guard already in Fox and with a healthy Wemby is ready to compete so he's not a great fit there. Alex Sarr gives them another big who has great mobility, 3 point range (enough to force coverage though he's not super efficient), and a perfect fit next to Wemby or with Jeremy Sochan.

Dumping Barnes (and that's all it is for either team as he isn't in the Wiz plans and wouldn't play ahead of Sochan or Sarr) gives SA extra cap room and #18 gives them the chance to get a developmental rookie in a deep draft. Washington drafts someone like Maluach at 6 and pushes the tank ahead a year while Harper learns to play in the NBA.

Harper is a better prospect than Sarr, Spurs don't consider this.

I don't hate this. I don't expect it to be well received by Spurs fans, but I don't hate it.

I don't get why folks would think the Spurs are set at guard but need a starting center. It's just bizarre.

Sarr projects as a 4, and I certainly understand if people think Harper is a sure thing star or if they think Sarr won't develop much more than he showed last year. Either way the Wiz are just trying to get the best pieces for down the road. The Spurs, at least to me, are trying to get the pieces to build a title contender.

I think a more realistic option is Sarr + #6 for #2, and would be a very Spurs more.

Spurs adore a prospect who they project to be available at #6.

Does SA think Sarr is a better prospect than Harper moving forward? If not, don't think anything else matters here. If they do, then they'd probably trade Sarr for #2 straight up and be thrilled to get #18 too, IMO.

I was wondering about Bilal/Sarr for #2 (and maybe #14?)
SA goes all in on the French Connection
Fox/Castle
Vassell/Castle
Bilal/Barnes
Sarr/Sochan
Wemby/Sarr
That's a pretty awesome top 8, with Fox the oldest

How about Sarr+Bilal+#18 for Barnes+#2?

The Wizards should get off the train at that point. If Harper doesn't work out, they risk setting their rebuild back multiple years. I think people are being way too quick to write off Sarr here. He was a rookie big man on the worst team in the NBA. The Wizards were not particularly concerned with playing winning basketball. He looked better as the season progressed. That first summer after your first season is really important to some prospects.

If Sarr OR #6 doesn't work out they are in the same spot

I'm not writing off Sarr. I'm assigning him a lot of value, moving from #6 to #2 in a perceived two-man draft.

I'm curious where Sarr would've been ranked as a 2025 draft prospect. 5th? lower?

Now subtract a bunch of value because he had a rocky rookie season to say the least.

Everyone expected him to have a rocky rookie season. That changes nothing, at least to me, to what he is or was as a prospect.

In fact, the fact he showed positive flashes is a boon.

agree with Knicks on all points here. Harper is a much better prospect than Sarr, it should cost more to get him. Sarr's value isn't decreased because of his play in his rookie season, decreased a bit due to one less rookie year, but with 3 left that's minor if the Spurs like him.

Without knowing what the Spurs think of Sarr, I'd guess they pass even with 6. Agree that if they love Sarr and don't like Harper, then they'd take something less, but I don't think they'd have to settle for just the OP's lowball offer.

I imagine the calls on 2 blow this out of the water and through the clouds into satellite orbit.

I see this differently.
Which has more value:
1) Sarr, Fox and #18
Or
2) Harper and whatever Fox is worth on the trade market.
Sure SAS is not trading Fox, but for discussion sake…. Plus I do not see the Spurs keeping Vassel, Fox, Castle, Harper.

A similar quip was mentioned in jest in another thread. It mentioned SAS would not trade 2 for Sarr, Coulibaly, 6 and 18.

It is an easy yes from me, even without Coulibaly.
Other than Barnes, Wemby has little sizable help.
