Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
I have a feeling Knupple and Khaman are having the 2012 Kentucky Wild cats syndrome where their stock goes up dramatically because they played next to such a great prospect.
Praying any talks of interest in them is pure smoke.

Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Yeah, also amazing how much better (or worse) players get when they aren't playing basketball.

Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
The scouts are always thinking differently than the people forecasting the draft. We only scratch the surface of their thinking and really have little concept of their protocols for evaluations. You just hope for spirited debate internally and steer clear of group thinking, or aggregation.
Awesome players fall all the time. So many departments failed project Haliburton, Maxey, SGA. Those guys all fell to double digits.
Who knows who they really love, but I have a feeling the actual draft is going to be full of picks that don't align with the aggregated mock drafts.

Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
Not that I put a lot of stock into Owen from Boston, but he’s one of the contributors to the Hornets SI website. He’s pumping up the notion of drafting Khaman at 4:

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I think taking someone like Malauch or Jaku at 4 would send me into a deep depression

Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
A fun discussion is, if you were guaranteed a prospect would "hit" (meaning achieve a reasonable best case outcome given their prototype), who would you want to draft? Because if he was derisked, I find myself getting drawn to Jaku.

soo...
ace learns to dribble and pass and play team oriented ball
vj learns to finish and dribble
tre gets stronger and plays defense
kon shoots off dribble and doesnt get overwhelmed by nba size/speed
fears gets a jumper and gains 20 lbs
malauch can shoot 3s
queen plays hard all the time
jaku can shoot like he did in early season
thats tough
probably ace... but thats a lot of "ifs" or maybe tre. tre's shooting with just average nba defense is pretty hard to beat.
honestly any of them at their best case would be huge upgrades

Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
If he hits, Fears is a warrior breaking down the defense, pressuring the rim, winning games at the foul line, getting points when you really need them most.
If he reaches his ceiling he's a premiere closer.
Money in the bank like Mariano Rivera when you need some points for the save.
He plays with edge and ferocity for a smaller player.
Reminds me of Isiah Thomas.

I think the Spurs would insist on Brandon Miller for pick 2.

sound byte on loh today from peek - she adds more clarity around her comments re jaku/kon... says she believes hornets are looking at entire top 10, looking at who fits culture, who fits roster. she did nail the tiddy grab last year

They could turn 14 into a higher number. But they won't move off Harper. This center is like Salaün for them - a secondary project and soft target.

I’m sure the NBA will find a way to make this happen for the Spurs. They seem dedicated to making them a SUPERTEAM.
It really shouldn’t take more than our 4 plus a future first to trade up 2 spots. I know there is precedent for a bigger haul, but that was for dealing up to the top pick years ago. Harper is really good but he is not projected to be an NBA superstar like Flagg. They get grouped together but it’s really PICK ONE OH MY FLAGG….and pick Two high potential Harper (less emphatic certainty for #2).
Now, if Hornets want to go for the massive restructure, trading Melo for a key player and picks, THEN move an extra pick to swap spots for Harper, that’s a BIG deal. Say it’s Utah, who wants a star and a PG really bad. Could we get pick 5 plus Markkanen and a future pick for Melo? Probably not. What if we dealt Melo and Miles for Markkanen, pick 5 and player fills? Then swap the 4 plus a pick, maybe throw in Green for 2. We take Harper as our new PG, pair with Laurie and our pick at 5 (Tre or VJ, maybe Ace if he slips). Thats a BIG deal!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
we're still reading into that article?
The Spurs love Wemby at C because of how much of a matchup nightmare he is there. They are not wasting their golden ticket on Khaman Maluach to push Wemby back down to the 4

Re: 2025 General Draft Discussion 2
Trading up for Harper would be the dream scenario. I really think he's a future superstar.
