Thibbs is really a relic of the past I don't think he can survive in today's NBA.

The irony is that I believe he took a year off after he got fired from Minnesota and he went around the league and I think college as well to gain more knowledge and in the end, he still did the same thing he was always doing.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

It reminds me of Ted Leonsis' extensive league-wide search for the best executive to replace GMEG.

He ended up choosing Tommy Sheppard, Ernie Grunfeld 2.0.
Bye bye Beal.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45493117/how-rick-carlisle-impacts-tyrese-haliburton-indiana-pacers

HALIBURTON COULD HAVE been a Dallas Maverick.

The Mavericks had Haliburton as the No.1 player on their 2020 draft board, based in large part on Voulgaris' analytics models. Sources told ESPN that the Mavericks dangled their two selections, No. 18 and No. 31, as well as their sometimes starter and sometimes sixth-man guard Jalen Brunson, to every team until Haliburton went off the board at No. 12 to the Sacramento Kings.

"We tried like hell to get him and move up, we just couldn't do it," Carlisle said before the start of the Finals. "When I tell you that Mark Cuban tried everything. When Mark puts his mind to something, he can usually figure something out."

The Mavericks never found a suitor, but Carlisle remained a fan of Haliburton's game from afar through the start of the point guard's career.

Going into training camp for the 2022-23 season, Carlisle told Haliburton he didn't want to call plays anymore. Carlisle was handing the offense over to Haliburton, who was 22 years old at the time. He remembered seeing his young point guard's eyes light up.

"I was surprised," Haliburton recalled after practice on Tuesday. "Because I know what the conversation around coach [Carlisle] was, especially from point guards."

There isn’t an off season thread, so I’ll drop this here.

That is quite the haul by MEM. I, for one, would have taken less in a Poole trade, if as rumored, Poole were to have been offered in trade. On the flip side, this put the bar pretty high for what Poole can possibly fetch. IMO, Orlando overpaid, but if this is the bar, then lets go!

I like that Memphis is rebooting. They've correctly assessed that championship contention is an impossibility right now with OKC, Denver and Minnesota being significantly better, so they're going to take a small step back in the short term to try and be in better position over the long term.

I think Orlando overpaid for Bane. Bane at $40M a year is a pretty tough pill to swallow. Two years from now, Banchero, Wagner, Suggs and Bane alone will cost $160M. And they still have WCJ and Isaac on the books at $20M and $15M respectively (though I assume they will try and move one or both of them).

I think the four FRP's might have had something to do with it.
