IDK, I think that the Wolves will be fine with Dilly as the starting PG. Yes, he needs to mature some more, but isn't that what bite-bite is for? Also, I'm sure he will fill out that 6'3 frame a bit better than he does now.

I hope you’re right, but I don’t see it. Offensively, I think he can be good. Defensively? No. At the combine, he was 6’1” with short arms resulting a standing reach under 8’. He was also 164 lbs despite a season at Kentucky putting on weight. Can small players be good defenders? Yes. But it’s not common and they usually are known as good defenders throughout their time playing. For example, Conley was a stud defender at OSU.
I would hope to get a bigger PG in the draft, someone that could start and then also move off the ball and play with Dilly. I’m thinking Demin, Jakucionis, or even Traore. Traore’s not thought of as a big PG but his standing reach is 7 inches higher than Dillingham’s. That really matters when cutting off drives and challenging shots.

I was actually impressed by Dilly's defense this year.
He showed a good knack for staying in front of his man and he clearly was working/trying on that end.
His biggest problems were lack of strength and having virtually no fundamentals. He looked like a kid that had never really been asked/coached to play defense.

Re: The Rob Dillingham Thread
Ant, Dilly, DDV, Demin and Conley seems like a good PG/SG rotation to me. If NAW is still around lots of depth. McDaniels and TSJ at the SF with a little Ant and DDV worked in, Randle/NAZ/Miller at the PF Rudy, with a little Naz, Garza, and Miller at the C. Sorted plus whatever draft picks we get. Minott the odd man out.

who was the last rotation player on a playoff team that was similar stature?
Lou Williams is the only person I could think of
basically have to be that good at shot creation and getting to the FT line to make up for it

Garland is definitely one of the smaller players in this playoffs, and I still think he has 20 lbs on Rob, at least offers a little resistance on defense
thats kind of the point, how much smaller Rob is (at least for now) then even someone like Garland

like Garland, Rob needs 20 lbs to even get to that size
if he plays with 1/3 of the tenacity of TJ, Rob will have a nice career

Rob need time. He will probably never be a great defender but at least a decent one. I hope he play 12-15 min every single night next year and he will improve.

If we don't add a PG with our first pick in the draft or trade for one Dilly should be getting 20+ minutes next year.

Agree … he has a way to go, but he has some serious shifty/quickness and play making abilities that will translate as he develops (hopefully sooner than later).

We don't know yet what we have in rob. Have no confidence Finch is capable of developing him.

Finch has a huge distrust of young players. Hopefully he gives Dilly a chance next season.

Re: The Rob Dillingham Thread
I don't ever see Dillingham as being a starter. I see him being instant offense off the bench, someone to come in and change the pace, maybe give a quick spark. Incredibly valuable if your team is set. But given his physical limitations, I just don't see it as a starter.

Re: The Rob Dillingham Thread
Dillingham needs the ball in his hands to create for himself and others. He's a very talented starting caliber point guard. But his fit alongside Ant won't allow him to thrive with the Wolves. That's why it was a bad pick regardless of his talent. Had he landed on a team that needed a starting PG and allowed the offense to flow through him he might put up Trae Young type production. But that is Ant's role and that isn't going to change. This was a disastrous decision to use assets to trade up for him and take him at #8 overall since this was obvious. That future pick and swap WILL add insult to injury.

You need multiple ball handlers on the floor. Rob and Ant can both play off the ball with their jumpers. Next season I'd love to see Rob handling the second unit as the primary ball handler. Get him in a lot of pick and roll action with Naz, who really excelled there with Jmac previously. Let those 2, and TSJ also get out and push the pace, get easy buckets in transition since they'll struggle more to defend.

What did we trade a FRP 20 years from now and a pick swap 30 years from now for a mid lottery pick. I'll do that every day of the week and twice on Sundays. In hindsight if the Wolves don't give him a chance then maybe it was a mistake. The KAT trade bringing DiVincenzo in derailed Dilly's chances this last season. Hopefully this year he can be valuable.
