BKE said Kidd was the #1 choice and Bryant isn't.

Everything seems consistent with that reporting and I doubt they would be doing it if they didn't know Kidd had mutual interest.

I mean, the Luka trade obviously pissed him off.

Man, this is disappointing (unless it helps us get Giannis)

What makes him worse than the unknown quantities out there in your opinion?

I don't think he's going to do much to change the offense. The team isn't going anywhere if they don't at least become a dominant offensive unit. I feel like it's going to be the same **** for the most part. Iso heavy, slow paced, no ingenuity.

Kidd is probably way more open to the idea of an offensive architect (like bringing in Borrego) than Thibs ever was though.

This is my fear as well.

We have to change the way we play otherwise this is going nowhere.

Not that they shouldn't care what Brunson thinks, but the last thing this club needs is a coach who just hands him the keys without coaching up his game as a floor general.

What a player wants or prefers is not necessarily what is good for the team or that player themself.

If they are/were catering to JB, then Thibs would still be here. Thibs basically had JB's dad as a top assistant. Can't get more player friendly than that.

Counter argument is that Kidd coached Brunson some in Dallas and Brunson was willing to play off the ball.

Counter Counter argument is that the Knicks don't have anyone for Brunson to play off of here. This Knicks team isn't exactly littered with creative scorer/creator types.

Kidd has become a very good coach and the players love him. Why is everyone so disappointed? Bryant has zero Head Coaching experience and Leon wants to win it all next year. Plus this ups our odds that Giannis will force a trade here.

So if we're keeping score I've now subconsciously brought Karl, Mikal, and now Jason Kidd over with me.

If this all goes south, just blame me.

This is leading to Johnnie Bryant getting the job. Leon Rose and team are doing business with due diligence while they likely already know the outcome. They'll get soft rejections from Rockets and Mavs on Udoka and Kidd (under contract for 2 years). They've informed media they're open to all options - even Bud - and casting a wide net. This helps the fans digest the final decision. We'll hear of a reputable name being interviewed soon. There won't be a consensus favorite from Knicks fans. Malone said no, Udoka and Kidd are no's. Johnnie Bryant will be the next coach.

The Knicks didn't make the decision to fire Thibs without knowing what the path to maximizing this roster is.

Thibs got fired because he was inflexible and reportedly was barely on speaking terms with the FO during the playoffs.

They are looking to hire a coach who is more collaborative with them and his staff and I will bet my bottom dollar that they will be damn sure the staff has an offensive maximize one way or another.

That's why I'm not overly stressed about who the HC is. If they are bringing in Kidd to manage relationships (like certain egos that got mentioned over the course of the season) its because Kidd is willing to have coordinators.

Keep in mind, they were very interested in Kidd 5 years ago before going with Thibs and they also interviewed Borrego as a potential assistant for Thibs.

I just love everything I've read about Bryant and his philosophy. But, I'm realistic and I realize his inexperience works against him.

I'm fine with Kidd as long as the offensive system in place maximizes the roster.

Keep him away from the Hamptons

Giannis definitely has to be coming because if not this would be an absolute terrible hire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's terrible if Giannis is coming.

Will Giannis play the 5?
If he doesn't, that's two non shooters in the starting lineup: Giannis, Mitch/Huk

If Giannis plays the 5 (which he should), then Giannis can be the secondary creator/non shooter that Hart was, only at the 5.
Problem is, Hart is still on the team. If he's starting, that's two non shooters again.
Or, two non shooters when Hart subs in and Giannis is still in or Mitch/Huk are playing.

IF the Knicks get Kidd, they have to make THREE moves.

Get Kidd
Get Giannis for KAT
Get rid of Hart/replace. No, I don't think starting Deuce is the answer, but MAYBE that works.

Brunson
Deuce
Mikal
OG
Giannis?

Eh. Maybe. Backcourt gets destroyed by teams that have wing height.

This made me feel a lot better.

Collaboration is good, and I know that Kidd can coach and knows how to establish a team identity.

It's unfortunate that he can't suit up to play PG next to Brunson but I'll take it

Kidd with Bryant back as assistant would be nice, but that's not happening

Sort of a consolation prize behind the substandard move.
