There are many variables to what ends up being what you end up having to give up in a trade. Lets say instead in a turn of events we pull off Kidd as coach, Bridges makes it clear he would extend here , Giannis wants now to come to NY and we ending up trading OG as part of the package but keep KAT.

Knicks outgoing salaries:
OG (39.6M)
Hart (19.4M)
Mitch (12.9M)
Dadiet (2.8M)
Kolek (2.2M)
PJ Tucker (3.5M)
+whatever few 1st round picks we have left + some pick swaps + some 2nd rd picks
Total=80.4M

Bucks outgoing slaries:
GIannis (57.6M)
Kuzma (21.8M)
Total=79.4

Milwaukee's roster is bare. Just look at it here. They would probably keep a lot of the players we send in the trade:
https://hoopshype.com/salaries/milwaukee_bucks/

A third team would probably need to be involved for the balancing part as the CBA allows it to work easier with a third team involved when one/both teams are over the 1st Apron. They would send out or take on a small contract and receive minor compensation for it. (Like the Hornets did in the KAT for Randle/DDV trade)

Knicks 2025/26 line-up:

KAT/Huk/Giannis
Giannis/Precious/Kuzma
Bridges/Kuzma/MLE/McCullar
McBride/Shamet/Wright/MLE
Brunson/Wright

Kuzma becomes the ultimate 6th man which is a role he is probably better suited for. MLE can be a ring chaser willing to come on a lower salary (Beasley, Oubre who is CAA, Horford, etc.)

Knicks 2025/26 line-up (if it's Oubre for MLE):

Rotation:
KAT/Huk/Giannis
Giannis/Precious/Kuzma
Bridges/Kuzma/Oubre/McCullar
McBride/Oubre/Shamet/Wright
Brunson/Wright

that's not a realistic offer for giannis....and certainly not a tsunami

Until Giannis actually requests a trade and says trade me to the Knicks...because in the open market we don't have a legit shot vs some other teams. You kinda have to force MIL to work with us and other teams to get what they want.

We know some of our players value...OG is worth multiple 1sts in a package if your want to get a 3rd team. Hart and Mitch would have value out there. But like I said its all predicated on Giannis forcing his way to where he wants to go.

Unless they are working their way down Giannis' to-do list before he requests.

I don't know if Freak is that kind of guy though

But let's say it happens somehow.

I don't see any path to Giannis that leaves us a better team overall unless we have every ring chaser in the league ready to sign for the minimum.

yeah I agree...if we are losing both are defenders in the trade just to put Brunson/Giannis/KAT together...I just have a tough time seeing how we can have the requisite depth and defense to win...Giannis doesn't solve other teams targeting Brunson/KAT. And then we would have little else to fill out the roster.

Right.

Giannis/OG/Mikal/Brunson makes more sense wouldn't it?

Giannis does not want to be a 5.

Maybe we should just look to add to this group we already have? The more scenarios I run on fanspo the worse it gets.

i'm actually annoyed by this. it feels like the old days when the knicks sucked and they were waiting on a superstar trade that wasn't likely to happen to save them.

we don't know yet. Just last offseason Mikal and OG league wide were worth a combined 7 1st round picks...that is known fact. I don't see how there value draftically changed since that point.

And we aren't even talking KAT yet but he can't be worse less then what we traded for him he's coming off one of his best seasons.

Two things can be true...we need Giannis to request a trade here...you are also underselling out assets. Because easily you can break down individual pieces to other teams and get draft capital.

Like you don't think OG on the Spurs for example would be elite with Fox and Wemby...they would give a ton of picks to get OG. That is just one example.

he certainly will have to be a 5 in a lot of closing situations. If Siakam and Obi can close games at the 5 he can...

Did we see any noise before the Bridges or KAT trades, or even OG? No. There’s no leaks.

Now all of the sudden we are seeing all these rumors? Tough to believe them.

from a pure X's and O's standpoint I would have my concerns...maybe they bring in a young associate coach to come with him from that stand point.

I do think he isn't as stubborn with minutes and adjustments to the rotation like Thibs was. And him being a former respected player he has that player/coach relationship where he can call guys out. That is probably where his value comes in.

But I don't see the offense changing much with Kidd from Thibs.

we always disagree when it comes to these things. you always think we're gonna pay less in salary for guys and that we can get them without much in a trade. melo wanted to be here. no discount accepted. donovan mitchell wanted to be here. no discount accepted. but a top 3 player in the league we're gonna get one on ? no sir.

yes agreed. The also issue if Hart isn't going out in the trade...you really have spacing concerns with Giannis and then if you also need to play a center with him...(if KAT is going out).

I feel you and know exactly where you’re going. However I don’t want to waste Brunson’s prime. At this point we just want 1 chip then if we have to rebuild old Giannis and Brunson and Towns can land us a haul and we’ll be like the nets.

Going after Giannis doesn't make sense to me because we need to include KAT to make the deal make sense financially, but in terms of roster construction you'd want a KAT type C next to Giannis

Cause KAT offensively is like a supercharged BroLo

And then because if you're not trading KAT, you need to trade Mitch for salary purposes, ideally you could convince BroLo to take whatever we can give him to come over here and be a backup and hopefully he teaches KAT how to rim protect cause he wasn't really good at that until his 30s

But I stick by what I said, we don't need Giannis, we just need better coaching, more chemistry, and a few tweaks to the bench.

It's not even remotely close

We are good now and might suck because of the star trade.

Huge difference!
