Haliburton or Luka?

Post#1 » by Godymas » Fri Jun 6, 2025 5:27 pm

Both have led their teams to the Finals and have made comparable conference finals.

Both are considered playoff risers

Both are the primary PG and ball handler of their team

If you were looking to win now, who would you rather have, Haliburton or Luka? Who is easier to build a winner around, who is the better passer, who is more efficient, who is better on defense?

For all his talents, Luka doesn't play defense and has stamina issues because he refuses to get in shape. Much easier to build a team around Hali - everyone eats and the ball moves.

What does this thread have to do with SGA?

I know we’re all prisoners of recency bias, but Luka is better.

Luka still. In addition to being an elite QB, Luka is also an elite scorer.

Nico swindled us for an old fat alcoholic foreigner who will decline by the time he's 29.

Give me Prime Time Hali. The Snowbunny slayer. Clutch on and off the court. What's Luka done lately? Lakers in shambles. I rest my case.

What does clutch off the court even mean?

Just the hilarity of the Luka or *insert name* as a direct result of whatever happened the day before.

luka is probably more skilled overall...but haliburton is easier to build a team around --- doesn't hog the ball, plays defense, and plays within the flow..also isnt a distraction with the complaining.. Overall, I probably would take haliburton and build a team around him for those reasons..now if luka had the right attitude, stayed in shape, played defense, didnt over dribble and complain all the time -- it would be luka.

It's crazy how underrated Luka has become on these boards.

Yep.. This was Luka 1y ago without most of the injuries and extra drama during the season. A lot of people have no clue what they're talking about. On top of it, that insane season earned him only 3rd in MVP voting lol.

Luka of course, he had double digit on/off in 24/25, before that, both were unimpactful, empty stats, high usage merchants, who cares about deep PO runs? It's elusive, it's their supporting casts who got them there.

Here is an explanation:

Haliburton for me. He makes his teammates better. All the intangibles are on his side. Luka is a stat stuffer a la Harden, a talented player, but with some significant limitations.

Yeah, until you check and see that Mavs all time WIN% with Luka was 57% and Pacers with Hali 53.6%. A guy who's been consistently among the best or THE best in the league in points created from assists and in "quality shots created" metrics, really cares only about stats.

Luka better player but its much easier to build a contender around Hali. Willingness and ability to play off ball, only behind Jokic in touches per game yet you wouldnt guess that since he doesnt pound the **** out of the ball for the whole clock and every other Pacer is always eating and playing freely, team ball movement better w/ him and Hali these playoffs has shown ability to be up his defense. Hes not been taking advantage of to degree many star guards are in playoffs including Luka despite some strong offenses like Cavs and Knicks targetting him. He still has his games and plays but his team defense and awareness is leagues above Luka even though his size and lack of strength can be exploited
