My general thoughts on mocks and player rankings is that difference should be embraced. A lot of times I will read someone's rankings and the comments will be like "Oh my god no ace Bailey top 5 get out man, unreal". Despite every single year the best players coming consistently from all over the place in the draft. Every year multiple top pick busts, every year there are random surprises later.

Yeah, this is my thinking. For me spotting diamonds in the rough and hearing strong opinions on outlier names is more interesting than hashing out the average of mock drafts. Draymond, Giannis, Gobert, Jokic, Maxey, Sengun, Jalen Williams, McCain - this is the kind of name you’d love to say you had up high on your big board.

It’s still pretty early I think but yeah definitely seems like they’re not even looking at 16 prospects

They could very well have groundwork laid for a trade , but...

Looking through the list, a ton of teams have not worked out anything but projected 2nd roundes yet. Hornets, Hawks, Raptors, Rockets, Spurs, Sixers, Jazz, Wizards have only worked out Fears, Thunder only Coward, Bulls only Newell.

In fact it would probably be easier to just count the teams who have worked out more than one projected 1st rounder- Nets, Blazers... That is it. If the Hoops Hype lists are accurate of course. Way too early IMO.

I mean it seems too early to draw a conclusion seeing as nobody has worked out many 1st rounders. (Again if the Hoops Hype list is updated and correct, I could be using outdated stuff)

Its been like this since weltman took over. Mostly second round players only.

Probably the closest news we ever got was the year we had number 1 pick. But didnt even pick any of those reported to have worked out with us.

You work out guys you don’t have enough data/info on. It doesn’t mean you have interest in them right this moment.
This isn’t new.

The more serious workouts don’t start happening until about 2 weeks before the draft.

Every mock draft has us taking Walter Clayton Jr. at 25.

Final nail in the coffin. We wont be picking him then

If we do he'll be the second player from Bartow to play for their local team, the other was Tmac

In my very cursory look at prospects this year, I’ve narrowed in on some favorites for us. I think Cedric Coward, Rasheer Fleming, Walter Clayton, and Danny Wolf all feel like good fits. Clayton makes me most nervous but may be worth the risk given the 2nd FRP this year, but I think the other 3 could contribute and have pretty long careers.

Rumors are that the Heat like Clayton at 20. It could be a smokescreen or maybe not.

I like taking a swing at Ryan Nembhard at #46...that's a gene pool of winners. Undersized, but shot 40% from 3 and dished out 9.8 assists (that's a TON in college) and had an Assist/Turnover ratio of just under 4/1. From all accounts, carries himself as an on-court leader and has a strong handle and great composure with the ball. Also grabbed 1.7 steals and demonstrates high BBIQ and anticipation on both ends. Certainly would be hunted due to size, but competes and has a crafty game to help compensate for physical limitations.

Savior? No.

But I could see him as an even less expensive replacement for CoJo as 3rd PG, with no great financial or contractual obligation. He could easily be another Tyus or Tre Jones. His brother has been an amazing glue guy for IND -he's bigger than Ryan, but his BBIQ is also Andrew's defining trait. High-upside, minimal risk of exposure.

I would think the Pacers may take him at 27.

I would be fine with him at 46. Good chance he is too small to be an NBA player, but it's pick 46. Could be players available that I would prefer, but don't think it would be a bad pick.
