This thread is a great example of why GOAT discussions are pointless.

We have THE example of a guy that is by all metrics and accolades the best ever in a single player sport, in an era where he had to compete against the literal 2nd and 3rd best player ever and yet there are people claiming ridiculous bull trying to justify their hate.

Some people just cant be reasoned with.

Bergmaniac wrote:"Some Westerners hate Djokovic because he has elite work ethic and that's a right wing extremist trait" is one of the funniest things I have read in a while.

As sad as it sounds, here in western Europe the idea that gyms and sports promote right wing extremist behaviour has been pushed for a while.

Just translate this German article and you'll understand their line of thinking:

https://www.zeit.de/sport/2014-05/putin-politiker-sport-koerperbild/seite-2
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

He handled it absolutely terribly, with plethora of instances throughout the year. Novak never could stomach that most tennis fans don't like him, and likely never truly will. He will also be one of the most quickly forgotten all-time greats in universal sport, and this will have nothing to do with his nationality, and everything to do with his playing style and personality.

Bull

People already don't care about him or care for him, and he's still active. He alienated everyone who would have rooted for him years ago, only the cult following remains. Not a single crowd in the world roots for him outside of Serbia. The guy is good friends with literal war criminals/mass murderers. It is what it is.

Djoković is loved in whole Asia and Latin America not to mention southern and eastern Europe.

The only people that dont like him are those brainwashed by the Western media.

And it doesnt really matter anyway because he is objectively THE GOAT of Tennis. He might not be the GOAT of media marketing but thats another category in itself not discussed here.

I think it's very difficult for anyone to have a full stadium actively root against you in tennis. He's corrected the crowd, yes, but he's handled it very well over the years. He also pays respect to Roger and Rafa and acknowledges they are fan favorites. Quite frankly, he's given way more than he's received in that relationship.

The Serbian persecution complex is really something else.

For the record, I am an Eastern European guy from the Balkans and have disliked Djokovic long before it was cool (since about 2006 IIRC) because his playstyle bores me and he behaved like a dick on the court quite often in his early years and he got the nickname Fakervic because he had quite a few suspicious injury timeouts early in his career. But I guess I must have been brainwashed by the Western media too.

Rafa rules, though.

I think Novak is the GOAT

But is there actual evidence that Federer is a "known Western Etlist who hates losing to EE/Slavic players"

Federer, I feel, is more of a hero to the white collar people . I agree with that . But that's kinda the norm when it comes to Tennis in the west. It's always been viewed as a rich people sport

In one of my marketing classes back in College, I remember them using Federer as an example to market to the rich and white collar consumers and Oscar De La Hoya for blue collar workers

This is such a transparently Serbian comment I have to laugh. You guys have the biggest inferiority complex in the entire universe. No one had any issue at all with Monica Seles or Ana Ivanovic bc of where they were from.

Federer was a fierce competitor who hated to lose to anybody. I don’t think it had anything to do with nationality.

Yeah, I'm Albanian myself (so no love for Serbia in particular if I'm being honest)

Every time I say Novak is the GOAT, I always get some push back that I'm just some Serbian shill or Balkan shill lol

I'm literally just looking at the stats, slams, H2H records, reigns, etc. and I just don't see any angle where Novak isn't the GOAT

I'm Serbian. I didn't like some of Djokovic's behavour. Hated his celebrations when he sent harts to fans. I litteraly turned TV off not to have to watch that. I hated when he tried to please every croud. People liked him more when he turned to - I don't give a **** for croud. He had some wired belifes. Anti-vaxx is not one of them because people who think so should watch his bbc inerviev on that topic. I don't care what his father thinks of this or that.

But this has nothing to do with the fact that he is G.O.A.T.

And maybe some people should stop with with this anti serbian hate, because we already had here 1 Croat and 1 Albanian acused of being - names, names, names... serbians

The cool thing about Tennis is that the arguably best 3 Tennis of all time played in the same generation

So you don't have to make up hypothetical match ups. We saw it happen

It'd be like Ali, Joe Louis, and now Usyc or somebody like Lennox Lewis all boxed in their prime and in the same generation and fought each other

It must have been weird for Djokovic to face his doppelgänger in Sinner. He now knows what it's like playing himself.

This not a "take", these are facts. Which crowd roots for him outside of Serbia? They always root for his opponent, doesn't matter who he plays against. I'm a big tennis geek, watching every big tournament, no one roots for him. He thinks water has consciousness/is an anti-vaxxer, believes in ancient European pyramids. His family is full of idiots who had dozens of hateful, shameful interviews/opinions over the years that are well documented, from his grandfather, to his mother, his father. He is in fact friends with war criminals, mass murderers. Which one of these is not true?
