Can anyone explain the love for Bryant? What is his offensive and defensive philosophy?

Why would they need secrecy to hire Bryant.. the Suns already hired a Cavs assistant with no problems.

The Knicks need to create a distraction by pretending to want Jason Kidd?

Yeah that's a massive reach.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I think its about the optics. They want to make it seem like they did a complete search because the majority of Knick fans would view a Bryant signing without a complete search as a negative.

Official Knicks Coaching search thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2462484&p=118874704#p118874704

I'll lock this thread for 30 mins so people can migrate over and then I'll open it up again if anyone wants to discuss Thibs

We were a competent coach away from winning a ring

No need to change 70% of the rotation

Do we NEED a Coach before: 1.) the Draft (we've only got pick 50 in the second round) OR 2.) Before a trade? (wouldn't the new Coach want to know the roster he has to play with before signing with us? Summer Free Agency begins a month from now on July 6th.

I wouldn’t say ring, and also wouldn’t say Thibs isn’t competent as he was in ECF, But I mostly agree I don’t want to gut the team for a second year in a row and have to start from scratch hoping we gel at the right time again. Pacers and Thunder have most of the roster in tact from the previous year, I believe a coaching change with most of our guys returning would have pretty good outcomes next year.

(if we kept Ihart I would of ran our roster back last year as well with just the bridges add just dont think management planned for him to outplay his pay grade)

I assume they would want the new coach involved in the entire off-season process and if not I might have some concerns the front office is taking a little too much control where they may not feel the head coach's input is as important to their vision.

So, Bryant has 11 years as an assistant coach/associate coach, plus a few more years as a coach/development coordinator with the Jazz at the start of his career.

And of that 11 years, 5 as an associate coach. (One year with Cleveland, four with the Knicks)
This is the position that mostly leads to a head coaching spot.

He's been an associate under Thibs and Atkinson, and an assistant under Quinn.

He's young, but has at least 13 years of pro experience

I'd say he's as ready as anyone in the league.

For good or bad, if the Knicks are looking for a head coach who is more flexible/pliable wouldn't it be the newer guy?

To keep it more Thibs related I wonder how much members of the front office and Thibs agreed on some of player personnel decisions from the Kemba/Fournier signings to the Reddish trade to the Detroit trade to the KAT trade. Some of them feel like awkward fits with Thibs but they are also the types of players he has always had on his teams outside of the Reddish one.

I would think so...

Honestly best coarse of action is strengthening the bench, I would love to get divo back, B Brown is another guy, develop Kolek and Huk and you got yourself something and for the love of god man just drill the defensive rotations into their heads. Countless times toppin a tub set a screeem for Haliburton wright gets through it hart is supposed to rotate about 3 feet further then where he is to pick up obi at the top of the key, with KAT rotating down but of course hart is late and a wide open 3 for toppin, D isn't that difficult even w towns out there(best D in the league in MIN with him) it's effort and knowing rotations. This team with 2 bench guys and coaching will wil 62+ games next year and come out of the east

speaking of team design... How does this effect us:

$154.6 million
March 26 - The NBA will increase the salary cap by 10 percent for the 2025-26 season, ESPN reported. The increase -- the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement -- is reportedly projected to bring the cap number from $140.6 million to $154.6 million

Brock has calculated/known this number for a while now, this is just confirmation for the public. So they've already been planning based on this number as what they had to work with
