It’s really only between us and Spurs at this point. Assuming Giannis becomes fully available. If spurs throw in #2 (Harper), it’s over.

Knicks can make it interesting. And they have already started looking at a coach that Giannis wants (Kidd)

Spurs are probably in the driver seat. That second pick looms large. Bucks and Suns are both going to be drooling over it.

He is a random bum that takes popular fan talking points and passes them off as breaking news. Anyone looking at this Giannis situation would point these teams out as teams of interest based on past talking points and current assets. Spurs are literally the most logical team to point out in a Giannis trade right now.

Trade #1: before or during the draft
PHX gets : IQ, Ochai, Aaron Holiday, Castleton, Lawson, PHX 2025 1st (#10), PHX 2027 1st
HOU gets : Gradey Dick, TOR 2025 1st (#9), TOR 2027 1st
TOR gets : KD, CLE 2025 1st (#29)

For the Suns, they regain control of their 2025 and 2027 picks and they can tank for the next 2 years (their 2026 pick is swappable with WAS who are likely to be worse than PHX). If they waive Martin, Micic and all the players acquired except for IQ and Ochai, they get to $182M committed salaries, below the tax with 9 contracts. They will likely need another trade to stay below the tax after signing their draft picks and filling out their roster.

For the Rockets, they get to try out Gradey Dick and move up 1 spot in the 2025 draft at the cost of Aaron Holiday and swapping the PHX and TOR picks in 2027.
Spoiler:

Draft
Pick #29: Raynaud
Pick #39: Yanic Konan Niederhauser

Trade #2: 2 of RJ, JP or SB for Giannis. After July 1 if Scottie is involved.
MIL gets : RJ, JP, TOR 2029 1st, TOR 2031 1st
TOR gets : Giannis

If Giannis can force Milwaukee into a poor negotiating position, we may be able to get away with not giving up Scottie.
Spoiler:
Image
Sign ring chasers to minimum deals : Brook Lopez and some combination of Kyle Lowry, Chris Paul, Joe Ingles, Patty Mills or Ben Simmons

Lopez/Raynaud/YKN/Chomche (2W)
Giannis/Mogbo
KD/Walter/(Simmons or Ingles)
BI/Battle/Rhoden (2W)
SB/Shead/(KL, CP or Mills)

The draft capital stings quite a bit (maybe get some protections or swaps?), but getting Kessler in the deal is kind of interesting.

It’s a bit weird for Utah though. I assume they’ve been holding on to Kessler for something better than this. It’s hard to tell what Gradey’s value is at this point.

Masai's job is on the line, which is generally a bad thing for making big moves. Other teams know this and will squeeze us. He's already canvassed the league with our agenda. I'm not worried about the price of Giannis, because he's a top 5 player right now. I'm worried that we miss out on Giannis and get bled for lesser stars or Durant, who is still great but at an age where rapid decline can just happen one season to the next.

This is such a bad trade. Neither Suns nor Jazz say yes to that, not even the Raptors. We lose 3 rotation players and get only 2 back, in which kessler is worse than poeltl and KD is not worth RJ+Dick. He is not a superstar anymore, on top, our defense would be worse than it already is.

I think this is the problem, but it seems like we would give it the most thought.

We lose 3 rotation players and get only 2 back

This is arguably a good thing.

in which kessler is worse than poeltl

Debatable, and Kessler is much younger (though that's admittedly a weird concern in a KD trade). Biggest concern is the kind of extension he would want.

and KD is not worth RJ+Dick.

lol

He is not a superstar anymore, on top, our defense would be worse than it already is.

I mean he's not a top 5 or 10 player anymore, but he likely would have had a shot at All-NBA if he had played 3 more games this year.

To put in other terms, neither RJ nor Dick will ever have a season as good as Durant's 2024-2025 season. I'm fairly certain that will be true of his 25-26 and even 26-27 seasons as well.

I'm wondering if Giannis is a Forest Hill, Rosedale, or Hoggs Hollow type of guy.

KD would fit this team like a glove if its RJ + filler and picks going out in a trade

You realize if Masai's deal isn't renewed he'll get a gm role somewhere else the following day right?

Also; the Raptors aren't trading #9 unless it's for Giannis plus contract filler (i.e not Scottie).

I do wonder if you combine RJ and 9th pick. If you could get an upgrade somewhere. Not sure who though.

People might hate this idea but just throwing it out there. What about RJ, Yak and #9 for Bane and a signed and traded Santi Aldama @ about 12 million per.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

WuTang_OG wrote:I know people want to stay the course and i get the logic behind that and not spending assets right now but i think masai is viewing this as a new nba with total parity and especially the east where its wide open where a team like indiana caught lightning in a bottle since january and are now in the finals. Yes they have great depth, system and 2 stars. But if the Raps trade for a star, we can also make some noise. Matchups are everything in the playoffs.

You make a move for a star and another smaller move and you are all of a sudden one of the upper teams in the east with a shot to go far as long as u got health and some luck.

In my opinion, he’s making the right call by being aggressive this offseason and hopefully we get something thats not too expensive (giannis aside which will be)

There is too much smoke now. Masai is going to pull the trigger on a few moves this off season. He has to flex especially with ownership wanting playoffs next season.

These next couple weeks should be fun

Going for it for Giannis makes sense, especially if we can give up a pick heavy package. He’s a top 3 player and an overwhelming talent who’s easy to build around.

Trading for Durant is an idiotic move considering that he’d cost the 9th pick or two future firsts, he’s literally 2 years from 40 at the start of the season, a huge injury risk and let’s not forget his team has flamed out in spectacular fashion the past couple of years although that’s not all on him. Durant is Olajuwon 2.0.
