Sad. USAID was a cesspool of corruption, but there were also some good programs in the agency as well. I know DOGE did a line item review of each program, determined whether it was actually accomplishing anything, and if it was the program/employees were sent to other departments. If there was a program that could have saved 300,000 people already, I am curious why the decision was not made to keep it.

Why are people who don’t like this country applying for visas?

That's like saying, "Why are people who don't like this country not moving out of the country?"

Maybe because they still find some parts or opportunities enticing enough to tolerate some other parts they don't like?

The USA still has some of the best universities and the companies. Actually this is the America's secret to still remain technologically superior to most nations. We import the best brains w our universities.
As u know Elon Musk was a student from another country and A LOT of Silicon Valley companies are either founded or being led by immigrant children who studied here or foreign students who decided to stay after college for the best opportunities. Google, Microsoft, Intel, Nvidia... literally half the leading companies of the this country are either founded or being led by and have so many employees w working visas.

If someone applies for a visa to a country, it is reasonable to assume the person should like the country. Not just some of its things. You are not implying that I think every person here on a visa hates this country are youu?

Foreign students apply for student visa mostly because they love the university, not the entire country. This is seriously a weird take. No country is perfect. Corruptions everywhere. Where's the freedom of the speech to criticize social wrongs?

I doubt they would come here if they so hate the country. Think about it, these are teenagers. A teenager me would never go to a university in a country I cannot stand no matter how much I love the university. And I think most of these kids are the same. It's just they live in a social media age where everything they say will be recorded. You never complained about your city and country, or other countries? I say bad things about China all the time, but I do wanna visit someday. I like the food n culture. Some parts I really don't like

It’s not weird. You just don’t understand the idea of a country. Almost every other country in the world would not allow a person into the country if the person does not like the country. It’s been a uniquely post-modern Western idea to allow people into the country that actively promote overthrowing the government and it’s not beneficial.

At this point I think we need to end this discussion. Your take on what I am saying is biased to your own line of thought and is not in line with most anything I think. I am not advocating to end visas and you continue to drive home a point like I am saying to do that. Unfortunately, until you stop assuming what my point is I don’t see a way to have a constructive conversation with you.

What you'll find is one side is allowed to interpret what your thoughts and feelings are, or call everything you say a "dog whistle", guilt by implication, etc etc, but never the reverse. It's a very uncharitable world view, and its why I stopped responding to the political posts here.

If it’s constructive, I see no harm in dialogue. I am not tied to one party or the other. I just want to help bring visibility and nuance to seemingly partisan issues.

On another note, it will be interesting to see whether the media runs with Elon as the golden boy now that he’s feuding with Trump. Personally, I think this is a psyop designed around making the DOGE cuts permanent and bring back subsidies for EVs, something Trump could not do unless some Dems suddenly jumped onboard to “stick it to Trump”. 4d chess being played here, watch the play develop.

If I was a Tesla shareholder I would move to oust Elon for violating his fiduciary duty to the company. So much money being lost. Wondering what the buy in is here since it’s dropping faster than I thought. $230? $180? By July this Elon/Trump feud will be resolved with both guys getting what they want and the stock will continue its gains. Though with a 190 to 1 p/e at current pricing, perhaps this stock has much farther to fall.

Ikr. If you are blindly loyal, you are a patriot. And you openly express your criticism, you are the enemy of the State. It's wild. It's beginning to feel like North Korea, lol

Wow, bud, you haven't been outside the States, huh? If you can tell, I'm quite opinionated. My Twitter feeds will block me from every country in the world if what you saying is true, lol

It's fine if you love your country. Just calling out police corruption, deteriorating local school systems, widening income gap, etc.. doesn't make me an enemy of the country. In fact, I LOVE her so much, I want her to improve for my kids n grandkids. It's my passion speaking. Imagine if me complaining about the local police department bans my daughter to go to college! You really want that authoritarian govt? Where we gotta watch out for every word coming out of our mouths?

And if a particular foreign student is suspicious, we got agencies that can do background checks. And I'm fine w the Govt double checking possibly dangerous individuals, citizen or foreign students. We got enough of school shootings already. Another topic I talk a lot about, lol

If Panthers lose game 2 then it’s just EDM year cuz after losing game 1 with a 2 goal lead and letting the Oilers tie with 18 seconds left, just don’t see FLA coming back!

That game 2 EDM goal to tie right at the end of regulation could have destroyed the season. Luckily the Panthers bounced back and those late game rallies will be tough for EDM in the Panthers den.

5 games series with home court advantage now.

You know using sarcasm to do exactly what I just said you're doing isn't clever right? You're proving my point. (I'm talking about on this board, not your strawman conservative boogeyman that has somehow followed you here)
