Crazy stuff but most of us knew this….
I don’t buy for a second that Leon has no idea or plan regarding the coaching hire.

They talked to JB through back channels to ask if he'd take the NY job over the PHO job, JB said yes, Thibs gone. Now they perform the coach search while JB apartment hunts in NYC.

I'm confident it was the right decision. To me one of the most cited arguments about the Knicks having made the ECF and the east being wide open are really extremely weak arguments:

1) 2 out of our 3 playoff series were absolutely not convincing at all. In those 18 playoff games played we didn't truly outplay the competition more than 2-3 times wire to wire. Most games it felt we were actually outplayed but behind some late game heroics managed to pull through. What happens when we were out of luck with that was visible after game 1 against the Pacers. I always felt you have to look at things in a process oriented way, not solely be focused on just results (although they definitely do matter a lot).

2) The east being wide open can change on a dime. Who knows what happens. Doncic just ended up on the Lakers on possible the worst trade in NBA history. Who knows what can happen in the east. What if Cleveland pulls some lopsided stuff for Garland or Allen? What if Antetokounmpo ends up on the Celtics? What if Orlando makes a great trade?
You would have to be a fool to rely on the east not changing. If your planning relies on no team improving, then you are already setting yourself up for future failure. As a GM you must do whatever you can to improve the team--whether it is roster or coaching.

3) Between overplaying starters, not developing or trusting a bench, playing a 7,5 man rotation in November. No offensive adjustments, keep the same starting 5 together despite all statistic metrics showing that it is declining fast, heavy iso-ball reliance....there has been enough things to be dissatisfied with which justify a change in direction. I'm completely at peace with a new voice.

Literally the Knicks... there's a reason nobody works harder than him, he is there at 5 am and he is still there when everyone left 5 hours ago, going from the reports and players interviews and he have nothing to show for it.

The funny part is that we all can see what the reasons of his failures are and dude keeps repeating them. There's no amount of hard work that can overcome stupid.

He is perfect to elevate franchises from the bottom of the barrel with his work ethic just to keep them in the top echelons of mediocrity.

"Thibs’s sessions are notoriously long and unrelenting and have earned him two reputations: a coach who cares about winning above all else, and a coach who runs his players into the ground. His players logged so many minutes in Chicago that the front office was forced to intervene. In three of Thibs’s five years with the Bulls, either Jimmy Butler or Luol Deng led the league in average minutes played. When Deng was traded, one scouting report literally said he’d been run “into the ground” by his coach. His injury (and Derrick Rose’s multiple injuries) are often blamed on Thibodeau’s tactics.

Rather than learning his lesson, Minnesota was somehow worse. Wiggins and Towns played more total minutes than anyone else in the league in 2016-17; Zach LaVine was actually on pace to finish ahead of both, but tore his ACL in February. Bench players were more suggestions than rotation fixtures. I’m still not convinced Thibs ever learned Kris Dunn’s name.

During this stage, the players get exhausted, the promising starts begin to spoil, and the frustration starts to boil over once Thibodeau’s teams no longer have the energy left to compete when it matters

Thibs literally made deng look like he was 153 when he turned 30. Hopefully Brunson isn’t dead by 32. There’s a lot of dudes defending thibs but I’m not sure how you defend a guy who regularly kills your best players in the regular season against bad teams.i just hope the next coach can scheme a little better than “our starters can beat their bench” what a **** clown. Spend all that time watching tape and being ‘married’ to the game but cant see the forest for the trees. **** embarrassing.

I don't blame him for being involved again. Leon trying to create some super team with KAT and Giannis both set to make 60M a year. Dolan's gonna damn well make sure this team wins the chip if he's about to pay 2nd apron penalties.

I'm not sure how much to make of this. Does Goodwill have real sources? How is this consistent with reporting that Rose and Thibs didn't talk much for the past year? Was Dolan really looking to increase his expenses by $30M?

Although the idea Dolan is "taking over" is likely to generate a lot of discussion, it could also be that Leon told Dolan he wanted to fire Thibs, and Dolan's "I'm in charge here" attitude took over in the meeting, making it seem like it was his idea. We just don't know. If we simply accept this rumor at face value, the reactions are going to run the gamut from "The Knicks are doomed" to "Fire Dolan" to "If Dolan's back, I'm outta here!"

We need to see what's going on before we grab the pitchforks and revolt.

As a kid, the first basketball I saw was our 1970 championship. I began watching after that, and usually felt very frustrated by how much Holzman played the bench. They weren't as good as the starters, and it took me a while to understand that the starters were better from having the bench play. Also, if one starter was having an off game, someone from the bench would be inserted to energize the team. Bibby was nicknamed "Instant offense." Somehow, it seems like Thibs missed out on learning this.

It's obviously Bridges

The fact he came out and complained about the minutes earlier and he's up for an extension, he's the only guy who could be a free agent that could force their hand.

He was right to do so. Playing a 7 man rotation was absurd and I'm glad the players weren't cool with it.

Dismissing a coach, trading a player, etc all need Dolan's approval.

This stuff was clearly building for awhile, on the roommates podcast didn't Dolan allegedly ask Tom to play the bench more and he told him no?

A couple of thoughts this morning:

I don't think any team in the association was beating Indiana on G6. We gave our best punch in G5 and they had a counter strategy of swarming Towns as well as Brunson. Maybe we could have sent a shooter to the corners as a bailout but Indy was extremely focused on keeping the series from returning to NY. G1 and G2 were where we lost it.

People focused on KAT but Mikal may have been the guy that was most impacted. He looked out of rhythm all year and was clearly upset about his minutes. KAT actually had a really good year under Thibs even if there are some actions between him and Brunson that could become tighter.

Starting to use the bench down 0-2 in the series and down 17 game 3, it's all i need to know about Thibs. The fact that Knicks actually won that game was a glorious blow to his ego.
