Ace/Tre in that order.

Not really considering anyone else

The buzz is you guys are pretty locked in on Edgecombe, though.

We'll see how it goes.

It could just be cope considering they expect Ace to be gone at #3.

We know somebody loves Ace and wants to move up. It's simply a question of if the right package is offered.

Here's the Pacers GM explaining why Sabonis type centers will never win. Highly relevant when it comes to a guy like Derik Queen.

It's kinda hard to tell what they are going to do since Morey keeps stuff pretty close to the vest.

But there's enough noise about the other guys, other teams potentially trying to move up, and the Sixers potentially looking at moving back that it would seem to make sense that there would be a move of some kind.

I also just don't think he meets the statistical makeup of a Morey guy.

If they end up with Ace I'm fine with it. He's got the tools to be an impactful 3rd/4th guy. I don't buy legit star potential because of the gigantic leap it would take from a ball handling/passing/decision making standpoint.

My biggest worry with him becoming a legitimately good player is a mismatch between his mindset and the role his tools dictate he should be playing. He's got the tools to be a high end defender and play finisher, but that takes buy in. He can't be ball stopper, bad shot taker guy.

Defensive liabilities at the 5 have always been particularly tough to build around (hell, even good defensive 5s have had trouble in the switch hunting era). We've seen more good teams recently getting around it with elite, rangy wings. Those guys are just really tough to acquire. Obviously Jokic is a major outlier, but recently we've seen a good amount of relative success out of Sengun, KAT and Sabonis (not so much this year for Domas).

You just get the best high end player you can and try to figure it out around them, whether it's an ideal or not. Premier talent is premier talent. Not an endorsement for Queen, just in general.

Obviously Queen is much worse.

Why are assists being taken into account here on a purely TO conversation?

That’s like comparing Jamal Murray, a non-PG pure scoring guard at Kentucky with a sub 1.0 AST/TO, to Kris Dunn, a heavily on ball PG with a > 1.0 AST/TO but had obvious major turnover issues at Providence.

Turnovers by themselves mean nothing when you're comparing who can be a primary offensive hub. You have to look at them in conjunction with assists to determine who is efficiently creating offense for their team.

And that's where your beloved Derik Queen falls short with an ATROCIOUS 0.79 Assist to Turnover ratio. The guy can't create offense without turning it over way too much.

I mean this is demonstrably false if looking at how many all stars did in terms of A/TO in college (Tatum, Cousins, already mentioned Murray). So I’ll respectfully disagree with you here.

The only potential role I like Queen in is as a 4 next to a rim-protecting 5. Even under those circumstances, he'd need to shed weight and have a more reliable 3-point shot.

Also, not drafting him in the top 5. I can maybe be convinced at 7 or later, depending on what else we get in the trade back.

He’s definitely a PF and I agree he needs to get his body right. Might be a tall ask, but the stats are right for 3.

You think Morey wants to wait until Ace figures out all his shortcomings? Jazz didn’t even give the people who pumped Cody Williams a full calendar year before frying them.

It’s especially noteworthy because the Jazz other two picks in the draft last year both appear to be solid (Collier, Filipowski).

Tre johnson trolls ... A bunch of finesse shooters and no wing size, defense, athleticism and shotblocking on this team .. another year i aint watching. Waste of a 3rd pick if Tre for sure..

I love the casual "he just needs to get better at passing, rebounding, defending, creating turnovers, and getting to the free throw line" that has to come with the argument for Tre Johnson.

Interesting HS stats of a bunch of these guys. Tre was better at generating stls in this event. Edgecombe, Tre, and Queen all averaging close to the same ppg (16). Queen shot 86% from FT here. Funny enough, the year before, Edgecombe was the leader of the entire tourney for ppg.

Does anyone know if Ace is considered a coachable player? Seems like that would be important given his shot selection concerns - can that be coached out of him?

I've heard pretty universally positive reviews about everyone's coachability in our range. Ace just says stupid **** every now and then.

I was wondering if our historically untatted successful picks (Ben, Maxey, Embiid, McCain) would lend to who we would select, but all of the guys in our range seem to be without tattoos: VJ, Ace, Tre, Kon, Queen, Kasparas all seem to be without ink. They all seem like hard workers and their coaches all love them. What a lame group of prospects. Can't someone be a jerk here?

I'll gladly take Cody Williams off their hands, if they want to write him off as a bust after 50 NBA games.
