Queen looks a big sluggish probably due to not being in good enough shape but the skill level pops out.

Can he defend well enough to be a Center in the NBA? He'd fill a massive hole as a backup C

He reminds me of Angel Reese at LSU.

I like Queen and wouldn't sweat the defense too much. He actually has quick hands and will be more of a guy who can get steals, but he won't be a shotblocker. Can those types exist? He just has to be an unreal offensive engine and it looks that way so far. Great combo of touch and handle and Pascal like footwork.

I'd be happy to get him but I still can't see the Wiz passing him. He grew up with Bub, plays well with Sarr, and is a Baltimore kid. That seems perfect for their franchise unless they would worry about him hanging out with the wrong people like what happened to Dalano in TO.

He mostly reminds me of Okongwu. No way Bosh was ever 250 lbs.

I just don't trust taking a guy at 9 with a major injury. There is no info on what he even had surgery on. Way too much secrecy.

This might be the most uninformed take i've seen on Queen. And i'm being charitable with that comment.

Reese was renowned for her defense as a prospect while Derik's defense in general is a huge question mark. Angel's offense was seen as limited whereas Queen has great footwork and tremendous skill on the offensive side. AR's motor is, for all intents and purposes, unquestionably high whereas DQ's defense has largely come up in discussions about whether he's trying on that end.

I'm talking about demeanor and how they think of themselves and how they carry themselves.

My only real concern with Noa is the league hes playing in....IK ppl say its a "Pro" League but it has worse athletes in it than NCAA basketball, And the average height in the BBL league is shorter than NCAA as well....If you watch the highlights you see Noa is a whole head taller than most of these guys and alot of them are unathletic white players....

So Noa has the Speed, Athletic advantage, Height advantage every single time he plays....

That would be my biggest worry about him at the next level....Is if he is against players his height , As athletic as him if not more, And taller than him...Will he be able to dominate the same as he does against players way less capable? Prolly not and then if hes not dominating the inside does he have the basketball skills to beat a defender?....

I will keep an eye on him and won't be totally upset if we draft him but there is a chance he looks totally different against better comp.

I’m certainly not an expert in Bbl, but i do know that Ulm is not just some random pro team full of nobodies. They play Bbl but they more importantly also play and compete well in Eurocup, which is the same comp that Valanciunas and Motejounas came out of.

Essengue did well there too but has obviously developed since as well. Ulm, and the competition they play against, are pretty legit.

He's got moves though. Good body control for someone his size. And an edge. That's were the Zach comparisons come in. I personally wouldn't draft him but I think he could have a Randolph like career. Needs to cut out Mickie D's though hah.

Randolph had a career 52.2 TS%, would that play in today's game?

the stuff on queen harping about his defense is nonsense, especially when you consider the numbers

yes, he was helped by playing next to a great frontcourt partner in reese and the overall team defense needs to be accounted for in some ways, (that goes for every prospect like Flagg/Maluach/Bryant too) but the way people talk about him you'd think he was an albatross or something but he was actually really good

of course that's not to say he'll be some draymond-like defender at the next level or even a great one, but the discourse doesn't match reality. The way people talk about his body you'd think he's a Tractor Traylor redux out there when he's not even close to that.

If he’s there I don’t see how he’s not the pick at this point. He’s a Masai type through and through.

You alluded to it in your post, but I don't know if you grasped the impact enough.

dbpm can get inflated by being on a really good team. Win shares does that time 5. Maryland's starters were absolutely stacked last year. He played with an awesome front court partner and great guards too. Being big and a good rebounder will also make your college defensive stats look good. His lack of mobility will show much more at the NBA level where in college it can be hidden.

All 3 backcourt players could shoot and create.

Queen was in an ideal situation and wasn't even their best offensive player or defensive player. I've seen the script before and he's getting overrated as he's a very good college player that was made to look significantly better because of his teammates. There is some potential, but I don't think he's worth a lottery pick at all.

Speaking of Randolph's... Is Essengue, Anthony Randolph 2.0?

I don't really see elite moves in that highlight pack. Which actually it more impressive if that ,makes sense. The scouting report on him is he has a weak handle and shot creation. That he won't go all the way to the rim, so he's going to shoot [emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]% of the time if he's not passing it. The defender knows what he's going to do, plays him tight and denies him any space to shoot, and yet he's able to make off balance three pointers with a hand in his face in a way that elite players need to be able to do. Imagine how good he'll be when he tightens his handle to the point that defenders can't play him as close without risking a blow by.

It's like Paul Pierce having to pull up for foul line jumpers and turn around shots in the lane because he wasn't that great at getting to the rim and finishing.

What if his ceiling is Paul Pierce with [emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]]]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6]][emoji[emoji6]]] inch hops? :D

That sounds like Vince.

yes, he was helped by playing next to a great frontcourt partner in reese and the overall team defense needs to be accounted for in some ways, (that goes for every prospect like Flagg/Maluach/Bryant too) but the way people talk about him you'd think he was an albatross or something but he was actually really good

of course that's not to say he'll be some draymond-like defender at the next level or even a great one, but the discourse doesn't match reality. The way people talk about his body you'd think he's a Tractor Traylor redux out there when he's not even close to that.

Unless he can transition to PF, most centers that can’t be defensive anchors are just not that useful.

If we get a KAT, Sabonis, Randle, or even Sengun, chances are we will want to trade them eventually, and we may not get great value for them. All of them are way better ballers than Queen, who doesn’t project to be better than any of them and he’s also got some tunnel vision when attacking the basket. Meanwhile, defensive C’s are pretty coveted and can be a part of a winning solution.

So what’s the point if we trade Queen down the road for low value and spend a lot to get a defensive C.

If you look at OKC vs Indiana now, it’s pretty much all two-way starters minus Haliburton. Boston last year was also all two-way players in the SL. The goal isn’t to be the Knicks or Sacramento.

All 3 backcourt players could shoot and create.
https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/maryland/men/2025.html

Queen was in an ideal situation and wasn't even their best offensive player or defensive player. I've seen the script before and he's getting overrated as he's a very good college player that was made to look significantly better because of his teammates. There is some potential, but I don't think he's worth a lottery pick at all.

lol and the entire point is that this lack of mobility thing is overblown. all this talk about being made to look better not considering that he had the same effect on the rest of the team. you're acting like he was carried when he was the offensive focal point for a winning team as a frosh. yes he was overage but the stats speak for itself. he was a winning player in high school too.

and it won't be any different at the next level. will be some lockdown guy? probably not. but he does have great hands and hand-eye and that shows up on tape plus on paper. the entire point is that he's not a negative.

he's a way better defender than all those guys. and trying to call him a tunnel vision player just shows you have no zero clue here lol

c'mon man...

Read on Twitter

the tape, the production and the results don't lie on him. and a combine score or a body type doesn't change that he's a winning player.

Its deff being over blown by posters here because if you do not like Queen for whatever reason....(Maybe the Canadian Tax joke got some people mad lol) ...But his Def is the only really thing you can knock about him.....Its most likely because he is not a rim protector and a shot blocker.....While that trait is important its not like we havn't seen good shot blocking Cs flop in the NBA who lack offensive versatility....For me id actually prefer the more all around skilled big man (Which is what Queen is) Rather than the offensive limited big man whos only skill is rim protection/shot blocking

And yeah Queens Def is good enough to keep him on the floor...Hes not going to get pushed around or be the worst defensive big in the league type of guy....Could he improve ofc....But every player at 9 we are looking at needs development....

As for Queens offensive package....Hes already got a NBA ready offensive package day one....If you put a tall lumbering big like Edey on him he will use his handle/guard like skills to beat him, If you put a smaller big to prevent him cooking them bigs on the permiter....He will back them down and bully them down low....

Also his passing will improve in the NBA, And he gets to the Free throw line at a high clip....

If we draft Queen though alot of fans here will be very upset....But you have to look at his good traits than harp on his weaknesses....Because i find alot of posters here harp on every prospects strengths but when it comes to Queen for some reason its always on his weaknesses and not his strenghts....Because his strengths make him a potential matchup nightmare in the NBA.

You can bring up red flags about every prospect at 9th area of this draft and them red flags you could make a case they will bust in the NBA....Its no different...

Michael Beasley put up a 5.36 DWS in his 1 year at KSU. Kevin Love was even better at 5.71 DWS. I'm taking those numbers with a grain of salt.

It's not nonsense to talk about when there are clear physical limitations out there for him.

yes, he'd immediately be an ideal bench big as someone that can play with both barnes and yak, just like what ibaka was for us and what naz reid does now for the pups now. great versatility and I can think he can probably lock down a starting spot in his prime once yak ages out.

the swing factor for him will be developing his long-range shot but you can say that about literally every prospect. but the overall package he brings in terms of inate skill/talent is easily worth it at 9. people fall in love with the workout warriors and ignore the actual game tape/production, which is a backwards way of viewing things.
