O'Connor reported he's the favorite if he's on the board at our pick.

Anyone see anything resembling a young Jason Richardson coming out of Michigan State or is it just me?

In the highlights, absolutely.

Difference is J-Rich was fearless and courageous with the ball in a way VJ just isn’t. His ability is not the question for me, the issue is he plays like a spot-up role player most of the time. Jason wanted to take your head off from the opening tip.

I'd be a ton more excited about him as a prospect if he showed a lot more of an aggressive scorer mentality on the floor. Based in what I saw in college, he kinda disappeared in a lot of the games and was more or less a traditional role player.

I know Donovan Mitchell went from projected role player to alpha year one, but that is a very rare situation.

His performance on the Bahamas team does give some hope though.

Honest take on Edgecombe's weaknesses and NBA projection. The part about opportunistic scoring's (and lack thereof on Baylor) interesting, think his time on the BAH national team (next to real NBA talent) shows his promise there.

And as previously mentioned, Baylor’s PNR-heavy style being centered around smaller guards who couldn’t create advantages eradicated opportunistic scoring from Edgecombe’s shot diet. The few chances Edgecombe has had to attack from the weakside or get downhill versus a tilted floor, he delivered.

Obviously, there’s only so much accommodating a team would want to subject themselves to when it comes to a player drafted as high as VJ will be. However, a player capable of providing lineup and stylistic flexibility without compromising spacing or rebounding is scarcely made available at a rookie deal price point. This archetype’s dependence on high-leverage creators is undeniable, but this era of the NBA reflects the appeal of a prospect like VJ Edgecombe. Sacrificing the size traditionally associated with certain roles in favor of skill can pay massive dividends.

Alijah Martin might be a good 2nd round target if we don't take VJ.

6-3 in shoes, 6-7 wingspan. 208 lbs
Point of attack defender
35% from three on 6 attempts per game

No Ceilings Draft Guide comps Nembhard, Beverly, Cason Wallace

Pros: Athleticism, Defensive Process, Floor Spacing
Cons: Size, Handle and Creation for others

He shows a series of video and analysis on VJ’s bad drives, which also highlight his poor finishing at the rim. Says the main reason is lack of awareness while making the decision to penetrate, losing any leverage and getting stopped hard. Then shows good decision drives showing the differences in approach. Also a section on playmaking that was positive. Summarizes that VJ has struggles that must get better at next level but he showed improvement that is encouraging.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

In Summary that Prospect X has struggles that must get better at next level but he showed improvement that is encouraging.

You could just use that with every prospect.

Not being facetious with this question. What about VJ makes people keep saying he is a perfect fit between Melo and Miller?

Is it that he projects as a good defender at the next level? I'd ideally want a more capable secondary ball handler to take pressure of Melo since half court handling is one of Miller's main weaknesses.

I just don't see VJ as a ball handler right now; I guess you'd bank on him or Brandon making improvements on that.

probably defending, passable shooting and his cutting/explosiveness. him cutting with lamelo passing sounds nice.

There is no perfect fit next to melo in this draft u fortunately.

We really needed a 2way guard with size, respectable 3pt, decent handles, secondary playmaking, sone rim pressure and plus defender.

Best case, we get 75% of that with one of vj tre kon, fears or jaku

To be fair, you just described a hugely valuable player for pretty much any team.

I know... but those are the guys you'd hope top find in the top 4 of a stacked draft.

And one of the guys this year will probably develop into that we'll rounded guard, but good luck guessing who. We got a of specialists this year.

Obviously he has to make it there first. That’s the real issue.
