Another reason letting Yarbrough go was so silly.

I do not care about great quality. A potential 4th/5th Starter who will eat up innings would still be sufficient for the time being over Bowden Francis. The Jays have more Outfielders than they need. You offer a rebuilding team like Chicago two of Davis Schneider, Clase/Roden or even another Minor League prospect with potential, and I am sure they would trade you a guy like Houser (which was mentioned earlier in this thread).

Actual MLB quality 4th/5th starters really just aren't just sitting out there for nothing. It's why pitchers like Kikuchi get 60M over 3 years.

The time to rectify this starting pitcher depth issue was in the offseason and this front office didn't do it at all.

The challenge seems to be riding the next few weeks until Scherzer is ready, and then hoping to get Manoah back in August. Adam Macko made his first AAA start today - four scoreless innings - so he's going to become an option after another couple of starts at Buffalo. When Sandlin and Garcia are back, they can move Yariel Rodriguez into the rotation, if only as a 3-4 inning opener.

Sandlin has two appearances in the FCL the past week.

Garcia has begun a bit of soft toss, but seems further away from returning than Sandlin

I think these are the options for another month, since the trade market isn't likely to heat up before then

Turnbull just got called up, so he's clearly going to be starting a game this coming week.

Not necessarily. They had to call him up today, otherwise he could declare himself a free agent. Wednesday will either be Lauer or Turnbull. I suppose if they want to continue stretching him out they might start Turnbull, but he has been really bad in the minors. (Might have Berrios/Bassitt in reverse)

Monday - Berrios
Tuesday - Bassitt
Wednesday - Lauer / Turnbull
Thursday - Off
Friday - Gausman
Saturday - Berrios
Sunday - Bassitt

Francis must not have any options left -- only reason I can see why he was not the one that was demoted.

On a cheap contract, and with success last year, Francis would certainly get claimed by somebody. But should that have been a concern -- right now I don't want to use him as a long reliever unless the game is out of hand,

Thankfully there are two off days in the next eight days. It means we do not have to worry about Bowden's spot in the rotation for about two weeks. He might not have any options left, so he can just be used as the Jacob Barnes of earlier in the year- come in and pitch during blowouts, when the game is out of hand for the time being.

He has very little relief experience in MLB, I bet he starts the Wednesday game.

Jays are basically punting every 5th day with Francis. Something has to change.

Turnbull struggling to hit 90mph and getting knocked around in the minors. This might get ugly.

I’d probably move Yariel into the rotation and move Francis into the BP temporarily as the long guy. Francis had a rough first half last year but turned it around the second half, I don’t want to give up on him completely just yet.

If Turnbull is halfway decent, then he can take over one of the Rotation spots, with Lauer as the Bulk Guy. Only logical move right now would be to move Yariel Rodriguez to the rotation, once Sandlin and Garcia are back in the Bullpen. Bowden Francis should be the guy pitching in Blowouts right now.

Due to the tight standings, this team cannot afford to punt every 5th Day. Thankfully with two days off in the next 7 days, you can skip Bowden's next two Starts. This team should be happy they are 35-30 right now with pretty much 3 competent Starting Pitchers.

If it was *only* punting every 5th day, it wouldn't be *that* bad. But it's actually worse than that, because it's punting every 5th day *and* overworking our bullpen and making them unavailble the next day.

That’s not a rule. He would’ve been safe this time.

I thought Springer was faster than that. But also why does Springer always get catchers interference
