THey built the lead to 10 but it's down a bit. The series staying close is the only way the NBA might get some fans. The thing is, I could never sleep during a Knicks game but I could easily wait until morning to see how this one ends.

Yeah. But you're a Knicks fan. :D :D :D

We can all wait until tomorrow to see what the score is if this is, eg, the Cavs x the Suns.

There are some teams all fans want to watch, but fans of at least 26 or 27 teams just dont care much about this matchup. At least we got parity.

The first half is true. Still not sure about parity, but I do hope it is so, so that we see more interesting games.

I still think there is a chance OKC wins this in 5.

Our little discussion has no effect on what happens on the floor in OKC, but the timing couldn't have been worse LOL

It's really OKC's defence somehow. Jokic is the only close to antidote. Is that the point?

The Pacers fought back from a big deficit G1. Ldo, could do again. However ... ?

So far, the big winner of this series is Mike Breen, who once again shows he stands head and shoulders above any other NBA play by play announcer. His call is always professional, accurate, and interesting. Makes me want to hear him with Clyde calling our Knicks games again.

He's by a decent distance the best. The Mavs guy, Mark Followill, is also pretty good - fair props to any good play, does not pump up his team and calls it very straight.

[edit] tbh, I don't know why Followill doesn't get national broadcast network work.

I've never heard him and probably lots of others haven't. Most teams think hiring homers is the best way to increase fan involvement. I'm glad Wally Wall will never be our play by play guy here.

That's the interesting point for Followill. He's very straight down the line. Like Breen. Even leans a little more to the opponents. Has side gigs afaik with the Texas NFL teams (maybe????). Doesn't have a persona as a homer.

I'm not sure how to evaluate those things as manifestations of state and/or city identities.

Obviously Boston has had historically ridiculously bad people in this role .. Johnny Most down to today.

The Lakers otoh had Chick Hearn, who was the definition of calling it straight.

idk.

Many owners are billionaires. Man billionaires don't care about what others think and don't really have good taste. But some are more attuned to how they and the team appear. I can see the Boston culture loving someone like J Most. But Jeannie Buss in LA is very image conscious. Maybe that's part of it. Also, maybe here and there a competent announcer works his way up to calling games and the front office actually realizes he's good.

It's just sickening how ESPN/ABC have devolved into some of the most useless, self indulgent talking heads who look only to increase their personal ratings and salary. My ESPN faves are of course Breen and Perkins. There's a big drop off that leads to the depths inhabited by SAS and others.

Don't know how any Knicks fan would be rooting for the Pacers.
