I don't think I can quit entirely though. My big problem is Thibs getting fired so soon lit a fire under my butt and renewed my expectations which is great for the franchise but unfortunate for my plans of abstinence

I really love what you wrote and I think the current mods wouldn't say no. But it takes time, and when one poster attempts to derail or starts ad hominem attacks on others, it's hard for people to respond well and not just fight back.

That's why we have this thread, it's to draw a red line and prevent from people going too far and keeping most of us within this discussion board.

You're welcome. Is Chinese your first language, or is it British English? Either way, you've come a long way over they years with your English. I spend 24 hours/day with people for whom English wasn't a first language, so I've got a lot of experience with that (at home and work, so it's real).

Chinese(while spoken language varies a lot besides Mandarin among different people, Cantonese is the primary spoken language in Hong Kong), then British English (PRC or ROC leans towards American English)

Just found out when I joined realgm I was still a student, some distant memories.

I remembered that there were posters from all over the world like France, Germany, Australia and even Japan lol. This board is really something else.

I learned when I was young that isolated populations would quickly create their own languges, and had since the dawn of man. But now we see younger folks creating their own patois and you can't say you're insolated in Hong Kong or Singapore or anywhere else - after all, you're part of this board and talking with all of us. So I just admire each language for the uniqueness it brings to our world. I love learning new expressions and, even more, new ways of conceptualizing and saying things.

TBH, I was surprised the mod team allowed one or two posters to enter a thread, hijack the conversation, and instigate/stir the pot with so many personal agendas. After 20 years on this board, I don't remember ever seeing things as bad as these past 8 months. I also never felt it necessary to put anyone on ignore until this past year, for the first time ever. If it was a turn-off for me, I'm sure it was for others.

I'm very happy to read this is all being addressed and that quality posting and a call for quality posters to return is the way forward. Thanks to the team for your hard work.

I saw the writing on the wall almost 2 years ago, mainly with one or two mods, so I didn't feel a need to stick around.

Only came back once, a few months ago, when I got an email saying I had a message in my inbox.

I can see a lot of effort went into making these tules. As with anything, their value depends on the execution.

For example, I recall once talking with an ex about diversity. We were of different races and she asked if there were any races I was prejudiced against. I told her, "Only one - those horrible Venusians."

She became agitated upon hearing that and said, "I never thought you were that kind of person! What's wrong with you?" I told her, well, they're all a disgusting color of violet and they reek of sulphur. Also, their antennae bother me."

After a rather strained conversation, she was still not convinced i was a good guy. So she's an ex. She's not a mod here, so I do have some faith in how the rules will be enforced here.
