I'm trying to GTFO more myself, but posting is a habit and this was a long season with plenty to unpack so here I am on a Sunday posting again.

Give it time and I'll do a better job and STFU

I don't think I can quit entirely though. My big problem is Thibs getting fired so soon lit a fire under my butt and renewed my expectations which is great for the franchise but unfortunate for my plans of abstinence

Just say No never really worked.

Yeah, I dated that particular girlfriend for a while.

That's why we have this thread, it's to draw a red line and prevent from people going too far and keeping most of us within this discussion board.

Thanks for your compliment though, I remembered back in the days my English was so broken while most of the posters still welcoming me and kept me around. :D

You're welcome. Is Chinese your first language, or is it British English? Either way, you've come a long way over they years with your English. I spend 24 hours/day with people for whom English wasn't a first language, so I've got a lot of experience with that (at home and work, so it's real).

Chinese(while spoken language varies a lot besides Mandarin among different people, Cantonese is the primary spoken language in Hong Kong), then British English (PRC or ROC leans towards American English)

Just found out when I joined realgm I was still a student, some distant memories.

It was funny when I heard my wife, who speaks Mandarin, talking with a woman who speaks Cantonese. To understand each other, both had to speak English.

Or using text due to the common written language.

This happens frequently in Hong Kong, when the mainlanders graduate in US/Europe and have a job in Hong Kong, they would find local people with better communication and attitude if they use English instead of Mandarin.

And while local people talking with each other (usually by text) in English, there will be mixed use of Cantonese and English within the same sentence, or even translate Cantonese into English syllables and mix use with English together (similar to Singapore's "Singlish")

We call it “Chinglish” here when people use a mixed language sentence  I wind up doing a fair amount of proofreading to keep that out of our office communications, even for some of our higher up professionals. My wife has some Arabic speaking clients and they use the translation on an iPhone for live meetings.

I love how the world is becoming more accessible and we’re able to interact with a tremendous diversity of people. You exemplify that our board is somewhat international, too!

I remembered that there were posters from all over the world like France, Germany, Australia and even Japan lol. This board is really something else.

I learned when I was young that isolated populations would quickly create their own languges, and had since the dawn of man. But now we see younger folks creating their own patois and you can't say you're insolated in Hong Kong or Singapore or anywhere else - after all, you're part of this board and talking with all of us. So I just admire each language for the uniqueness it brings to our world. I love learning new expressions and, even more, new ways of conceptualizing and saying things.

Knick4Real wrote:TBH, I was surprised the mod team allowed one or two posters to enter a thread, hijack the conversation, and instigate/stir the pot with so many personal agendas. After 20 years on this board, I don't remember ever seeing things as bad as these past 8 months. I also never felt it necessary to put anyone on ignore until this past year, for the first time ever. If it was a turn-off for me, I'm sure it was for others.

I'm very happy to read this is all being addressed and that quality posting and a call for quality posters to return is the way forward. Thanks to the team for your hard work.

Go RealGM. Go KNICKS!!!

I saw the writing on the wall almost 2 years ago, mainly with one or two mods, so I didn't feel a need to stick around.

Only came back once, a few months ago, when I got an email saying I had a message in my inbox.

Wanted to jump on to see what general consensus was about thibs firing. Saw this thread, first

Now, most of my time is spent focused on investing across various fields. New line of work from teaching, after 15 years.

Good to see some still around. Miss TFK still, though

Have a group of users on my ignore list. Couldn't tell you why at this point, maybe outside of one or two.

May just scrub them all and start from scratch. **** all in the past

I can see a lot of effort went into making these tules. As with anything, their value depends on the execution.

For example, I recall once talking with an ex about diversity. We were of different races and she asked if there were any races I was prejudiced against. I told her, "Only one - those horrible Venusians."

She became agitated upon hearing that and said, "I never thought you were that kind of person! What's wrong with you?" I told her, well, they're all a disgusting color of violet and they reek of sulphur. Also, their antennae bother me."

After a rather strained conversation, she was still not convinced i was a good guy. So she's an ex. She's not a mod here, so I do have some faith in how the rules will be enforced here.

Spoiler:
I am fairly well predisposed to aliens from the moons of our outer planets. But not towards those who breath in sulphur. See, I'm a reasonable guy.
