I think KAT was always viewed as an asset.

I'm generally with you on this BTW.
I'd say I'm 70-30 in favor of not going for KD.
But, for me, I at least see the argument that KD is more reliable than Towns in a big game. You know what you're going to get. Like, I think the people who want to acquire KD would make the point that KD would never have gone 8-19 in Game 6 in Indiana with 4 brain dead fouls and 6-10 from the line.
I, generally, think keeping KAT makes sense but that other piece of it makes me wonder at least. If you're truly ALL-IN and have a chance to upgrade your team, specifically for the playoffs, then how can you just scoff at it because of injury concerns, age and contract situation.
I at least see that side of it even though I've laid out in previous threads and posts why there's some concerning signs that KD is declining a little more than the face stats suggest.
Listen I get it. There certainly is a scenario where KD being a more trust worthy option in the playoffs since he isn't a slow and plotting as KAT is make us not a bad defensively and KD probably matches much of KAT's offense...but there are so many "ifs".
KD has played of 62 games ONCE in the last 7 years. That means he is at least missing 20 or so games a season.
On top of that if you are going to "risky" strategy you need to have contigent plans due to injuries...and simply we wont have the roster flexibility to withstand any key injuries to KD or Mitch or OG.
Also like you said KD is declining he basically never drives anymore and is a mid range merchant....he is one of the best all time offensive players which and his jumper basically can't be contested at his legnth but with Mikal being a mid range guy and KD being a mid range guy and Brunson bring a mid range guy...there isn't a lot of diversity to the offense. We won't be a heavy drive team we probably win off ISO's and then just hope KD's healthy and plays a little bit better defense that KAT. Thats a lot of risk for the negative that injuries could derail the season...and then where do you go from there?
There’s more than just two options. You can get other teams involved too. But also, imo, any deal with the Suns needs to be 2 parts because they can’t attach players with KD.
You were correct aggregate applies to a 3 team deal as well.....
However here is one way to run it. Phx who is not in a win now window gets the younger Bridges who liked playing in Phx and will probably resign there for the older KD. I did this iteration with New Orleans and Missi but Other 3rd teams can be used for a different center.

Not really without gutting the entire roster.
KD makes like 55 MM
Its either got to be KAT or OG...the other guys don't make enough. 2 for 1 trade is already tough to manage you can't be suggesting Mikal, Hart, and Mitch...that is 3 key rotation players and two who are durable for 1 oft injured player...that isn't realistic for the knicks.
I don’t even know how to define realistic any more when it comes to trades.
But it’s not a 3 for 1, that’s why I mentioned a trade with the Suns would have to be at least 2 deals since they can’t package anyone with KD.
I’ve mentioned deals here before, like the 3 team deal with the Lakers where we give them Mitch for the Mark Williams package… give us the picks and send Knecht to Phoenix, and the 2nd part we send a low salary filler to Phoenix for Dunn.
Then we can package one of our low salary players in a separate trade with that Lakers pick and get a rotational player too… basically turning this in to a 3 for 3.
Just takes some creativity and thinking outside the box.

This is where we agree to disagree MPH. I absolutely think you can do this type of 3 for 1. Lets say MLE gets you Ben Simmons, Oubre or Beasley (he basically replaces Hart). KD replaces Bridges and Mitch is basically available 30 games a year anyways. Huk will get more minutes next year too.
Thinking you can replace two of the highest MPG guys in the NBA with MLE/vet minimum type salaries is your first mistake.
Ben Simmons? come on bro...
I dont agree. Even if not Simmons....Beasley or Oubre....
KAT/Missi (or some other C in a 3 team deal)/ Huk
KD/ OG
OG/ Wright / MLE
McBride/ MLE / Wright
Brunson/ Wright/ McBride
I dont think that is a bad rotation at all. Its a historic level 5 out with the starters.

It's Brunson, McBride, OG, KD, and KAT
Bench: MLE, Wright, and Huk? Come on man. That isn't sustainable.

you throwing the same guys in the rotation like Delon Wright 3 times or McBride twice or OG twice doesn't hide that the team basically now have 5 legit rotation players...everyone else is an unknown.

Also how the hell are we just getting Yves Missi who had a promising rookie year and is on a team who seems to be headed for a rebuild?

Splitting minutes at different positions. MLE with Rose working it will probably be a pretty decent player. So yes I absolutely think it could work. Huk and McBride get more minutes. Maybe Kolek too. It absolutely can work

Simmons claims KD to the Spurs is basically a done deal.
I hope that means Giannis or JJJ is our top target.

We know KAT is a tricky player to build around. Cheaping out at C is a terrible idea unless you have a very specific set of wing and POA defenders. One reason being that KAT is always in foul trouble and if your alternative is a 2nd year Hukporti or some random salary filler in a trade, you may just cost yourself a few playoff games because you don't have a decent to good C on the roster.
This is what bugs me about 2k roster building that happens here when people just list out rotations. There's no thought to what could go wrong or contingencies needed. It's just names in a bracketed format

Thats why KD is clearly lower on my list than Giannis or JJJ. And I only like KD if we get a half decent defensive 5 as well.

Two other issues:
1-Mitch is basically available 30-40 games a year
2- He only has one year left and we may be faced with a IHart issue and not be able to re-sign him.
It's another reason why the most preferred route is to get the stud defensive 4/5 that can complement KAT perfectly.
