Kidd, Giannis and a gutted roster. Can't wait.

Just something to consider:

If we haven't formally requested Kidd and thus may be negotiating on him, the same can be true about Udoka or Finch or whoever.

The reporting around this must be read very carefully, because doors that are reported to be anticipated to be closed are not the same as them actually being closed.

It is interesting that Bryant's name never seems to be coming up though.

The Mavs probably want Thibs in exchange and for the Knicks to send an assistant video guy to Utah.

If Bryant was the guy he would have been hired already. He might be a fall back option but he’s not the plan A or B

Ok, as long as we hold onto the former Mavs medical staff. Sold!

Kidd has a lot of baggage. I don’t get the intrigue other than he is a CAA client I suppose and probably Dolan like him. While I am happy Thibs is gone, I can’t shake the feeling this is all coming from Dolan.

Exactly. And further....

if Dallas unequivocally was keeping Kidd they would have shut this thing down before the Windhorst report.

Kidd also has already strongly hinted he is interested in the Knick job. You don't make that public unless you are ready to leave your current job.

Well there's also Brunson who said Kidd is his second favorite coach ever behind Thibs, and there's the tie to Giannis who called Kidd his fav coach also

Two WCF appearances and 1 Finals appearance in 4 years with Dallas and a roster that has almost always had two defensive liabilities in the starting five. Sound familiar?

He also knows the NY market well and has coached Jalen before. Two things I think people are not putting enough weight into when considering his candidacy.

After reading Leon's and Sham's mouthpiece quotes on firing Thibs and how much focus was on Championship and Pedigree, I pretty much ruled out any chance of Bryant being hired.

Don't know why people convinced themselves that Bryant was a favorite just because he was an assistant before.

Maybe if they had fired Thibs two years ago he would have been a real candidate but not now IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong but, I don't see Leon staking his job on a rookie HC.

Ugh I was happy when it seemed like Kidd wasn't available anymore. Now he's back basically. Come on man.. do not want. Has all the same issues as Thibs but isn't as good as Thibs. Stupid choice if we go that route imo.

Same. You don't swap out a high floor coach for a high variance one.

You need to maintain the baseline at the very least.

i heard someone say there's not gonna be an interview and that makes sense. he's not an assistant. if they agree to this, they're agreeing to let him go and we're agreeing to make him the coach. he can't go back and we're not gonna reject him at that point.

Agreed. I think the biggest thing is that you need a coach that can command respect, in terms of strategy and the locker room. That could be Bryant or not, but I think we can expect some growth and mistakes if we hire a new guy.

The most high variance guy was probably Mazzulla, in terms of offensive strategy and his inexperience as the man, but he made it through. Even Spo had a bit of a rough start, with Bron trying to get him fired. Even Redick, I'd lump among those guys.

Doesn't mean we shouldn't hire a veteran coach. Just trying to be open-minded. If the Knicks are doing their due diligence, I want to trust that. I think the other reason why there are leaks about Udoka, Kidd, etc is that it makes news. But who knows?
