Re: Around MLB: 2025 Edition
Yarbrough is good enough to dominate the Dodgers and have a sub 3 ERA on the season, but not good enough for a team with 4 major league SPs.
One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.

Ooof. That sucks for Burnes and the D-Backs. I suppose if there's any silver linings, it's that it is still early enough in the season that he should be back for the post-season of 2026? I guess.

Re: Around MLB: 2025 Edition
MLB.com just did their "trade chip" article (1 potential tradable asset per team), and for Toronto, it's Bo.
https://www.mlb.com/news/every-mlb-team-s-best-trade-chip-in-2025#aleast
It would almost certainly need to be to the National League, but could the Jays be buyers while also moving Bo? Fix holes and strengthen our farm while also moving an All-Star SS? Or would it be a star-for-star trade, like when when we moved McGriff and Fernandez?

Re: Around MLB: 2025 Edition
Should we start asking questions about how the Atlanta Braves hit the ball so well in 2023. The Braves in 2023 had a historic year offensively, where they had an OPS+ of 126... no other team was above 116. Almost every starter on the team performed well above their recent career average.
Here are the average OPS of the 9 starters the Braves had in 2023, vs their other recent years.
2021 - 97
2022 - 108
2023 - 130
2024 - 98
2025 - 103
(Note for 2025, 2 of the 2023 players had played very little in 2025 (no longer start), so I used their 2024 OPS.
By player, here is their 2023 OPS compared to their average of 2021/22/24/25.
Eddie Rosario +45%
Ronald Acuna +36%
Ozzie Albies +33%
Orlando Arcia +31%
Matt Olson +27%
Sean Murphy +24%
Michael Harris +15%
Marcell Ozuna +12%
Austin Riley +2%

The man in white walked from Toronto to Atlanta. Finally got there in 2023.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Civale for Vaughn.
Am I vastly underrating Vaughn? I feel like the Jays could have easily done better without even going deep into our prospects. Between control and $, surely one or two of our AAAA guys like Schneider or simlar could have topped this offer?

I was wondering that as well. (although Schneider has little value... a Rodon would have have more)
But I assume the Brewers are looking at this as a guy with possible untapped potential even though he recently turned 27 (based on his being the #3 overall in 2019). In a bad organization, he had an OPS of basically 100-110 for 3 years *(not good, not bad) before this disaster year.. perhaps they think he is worth a flier in their own organization.

Re: Around MLB: 2025 Edition
I expected the Red Sox to get a much better return than two pitchers who have struggled this year, and a couple of low level prospects for their best offensive all-star player. Especially puzzling that they make this move when they swept the Yankees, and are in position for the third Wild Card spot.
Absolute steal by the Giants. I know Red Sox just wanted to dump that contract with all the problems the front office had with Devers, but the timing of this move is terrible. Red Sox fans are furious and rightfully so. I cannot believe the Red Sox could not have gotten more for a three time all-star, a two time Silver Slugger, and a player as talented as Devers. Just shocked by the timing of the move and the return.

Side note but I remember all the talk of his horrendously bad start to the season… he’s now having a better season than vlad.

Devers wanted a trade because he considers himself a 3B, and didn't want to play anything else.
So he gets traded to the Giants, a team that has an established 3B signed until the end of the decade.
I'm going to get out some popcorn. This will be a fun situation to watch.

The Giants plan to have him serve as the designated hitter but also as a first baseman going forward. He’ll start taking grounders in preparation for the position change in the next few days. Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area was among those to relay the news.
“They’re the men in charge,” Devers said today, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive. “I’m here to play wherever they want me to play.”

Yeah he didn’t care about the positions, he just hated Breslow and that FO for lying to him.
