Garland got scared of being traded and opted for surgery. Out for 4 to 5 months. LOL

Stein reporting Mavs would prefer not to trade Gafford and PJ. Looks like we're starting the season with the band intact. My guess is minor move for Lonzo and that's your summer.

Key word "prefer". But salary cap says otherwise. Unless they want to stay above the 2nd, then sure...

Maybe there's not a good trade out there. If the goal is just to stay below the 2nd, then letting Gaff walk without taking salary back is the ideal move. Any trade you make (except for draft picks) gets you salary back.

Getting the Coby Whites would need you to foot the bill for $30M a year. Even bigger than Gaff's supposed new deal. Doesn't make sense if you're targetting to go below the apron.

They are in contract year, if they are kept, they need to be extended, you don't players feeling screwed in the locker room.
Also, Mavs need a guard, a good one.

Part of me thinks it's a smokescreen. Just to say that Mavs are not dealing Gaff just to help some team out with their center problems. That if they want Gaff then they need to bring out a nice offer. It better not be for Gabe Vincent and some picks.

Trade Marshall/OMax for Lonzo/couple of 2nds, use these 2nds to dump Hardy into capspace, throw the TXMLE at Tyus while promising him the starting spot until Kyrie is out.

Lively / Gafford / Powell
AD / PJ
Flagg / Christie / Martin
Klay / Lonzo / Exum
Kyrie / Tyus / BWill

Just realized Garland is a Rich Paul guy. These guys can bend trades to suit their favor. Let's say Garland is pissed on being included in trade talks and AD talks him into moving to Dallas. With Cleveland being in the 2nd apron, trades have to match.

Would you send Klay + PJ +Naji to Cleveland for Garland? And how would that fit what we have going on here?

Obviously you'd have to work out a trade with Gaff for Herb after that to make it balanced.

I still believe Gaff will be traded, and considering mr. Harrison ties with Klutch I expect something like Gafford/Marshall/Hardy/OMax/2 2nds for Sexton/Lonzo.

Going to be perfectly honest. I hate that people want Lonzo so bad. He's an insane injury liability and i don't trust him to perform in the playoffs at all. Kyrie/AD/Lonzo on the same team? Might need extra ambulance trucks on standby :D

I also see a lot of fans here suggest Naji to be involved in any small trades. Guys, Naji has probably the best contract regarding "performance/salary" on the team or even in the league. You don't just throw away player like that in any small deal. These type of salaries for good role players can make or break teams. OKC are full of them that's why they can afford to have a deep team (for now).

I’m perfectly ok with that. Add Cooper Flagg and whatever PG they sign to the rest of the guys here and let reevaluate the team at the trade deadline. They might get a better deal for Gafford at that point. Or he might agree to sign for reasonable money and they decide to keep him, which I’m also perfectly ok with.

Garland is having surgery on his knee and will miss the first month of the season.

[Windhorst] “There’s mutual interest between the Knicks and Jason Kidd. There’s this whole thing about asking for permission — you don’t ask for permission to hire another team’s coach. When you ‘ask’, you’re going to hire them.

Windy probably just making **** up again. Stein said Mavs will decline the Knicks and there is zero interest now suddenly there is mutual interest? Sure...

Kidd just signed extension last season, the only way Knicks can get Kidd is via trade.

I don't think any Mavs fan wants Lonzo so bad, he's just the name floated around as a cheap trade target.

My point is I dont want to lose Gaff and especially PJ for pennies, that's why I wouldn't do anything drastic (assuming AD is untouchable)

I love Naji but someone has to go, he won't find any minutes behind Flagg/AD/PJ/Klay/Max.

I tend to agree with this strategy.
I think BWill will take his game to another level and we can stay relevant until TDL and then reevaluate our situation. Lively could very well be a reliability problem and it might make more sense to keep Gaff and trade him. And who knows where Kyrie's rehab will be by then.

There are way too many question marks concerning this team and I'd hate to see us waste some of our most valuable trade assets on the wrong players for the wrong reasons.

Depending on the minimum market, i can see standing pat being a fine strategy to start the season. One of Dlo or Tyus might take the minimum to start on a playoff caliber team for ~40ish games. Tyus Jones did it last year on a team he was a terrible fit on, so why not again on a team with great roll bigs?

It's reported that NYK and Kidd has mutual interests.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
