Quickley vs. Barnes

Post#1 » by TorontoBarneys » Tue Jun 10, 2025 12:29 am

Both of these guys can be said to have had worse than expected seasons in 24/25. Their value is probably on the lower side right now.

My question is, who do you think out of the two of them, will have a more impressive resurgence and return to form next season if they remain with the Raps? I think both of them have the potential to look much better next season than they did in 24/25.

I think Barnes for sure. He is definitely hearing all the rumours about possibly being traded for gianass. Can see that being motivation for him to improve. Also having Ingram now might help with having less scoring responsibilities, which could help with his improvement in his shooting percentages. Definitely more expectations for Barnes to improve as we for sure are going to need that if we want to get better.

Was Quickley that disappointing or did he just not play?

17, 6 and 3.5 on 42/38/87 for a guy that struggled to be healthy enough to find a rhythm wasn't too bad

Scottie, if for no other reason than I don't think IQ has another level.

Scottie affects the game much more than Quick does.

Quick is a god shooter, but other than that....

Haven't even seen enough of Quickly to make an assessment about him. Us trying to make the playoffs this year, should tell us if he's a starting PG in this league or not.

Barnes really needs to take a step, or this fanbase is going to crucify him.

Not too bad, but not that great either. I find him mediocre. And him running the point, he is not a top 15 PG. So probably below average for his starting spot, given his defense is not great either (not bad, but...).

I am sure someone can easily list 15 other PG Starters that they'd have, who are at least very good at something.

They are two players who are supposed to break out at any moment, along with BI.

Quickley needs to stay healthy, I don't think he should disappoint.
Barnes has the pressure of "franchise player" on him, and with that big contract now, the expectations are even higher.

With a better record next year and assuming Barnes plays primarily in his free-safety role, I think he'll be in contention for All NBA 2nd Defensive team.

I'd probably still take Barnes if you were talking offense-only, IQ is a far more efficient shooter but Barnes is the better offensive hub and can be dominant in the paint.

Both sides of the court? Scottie easily.

He'll have to shoot quickly, before Ingram gets the ball

Is the poll question based on both being Raptors this year?

not a fan of Quickley on the defensive end. I don't see him being playable in the playoffs unless he's used as a spark plug off the bench when we need some buckets but other than that, he's going to get exposed and picked on on defense.

He's not that bad defensively.

Other than expectation, what realistically they need to improve?
Quickley - more a SG due to his vision, but slightly undersize
Barrett - more a 6th man due to his defense
Barnes - more a C due to his shooting, but undersize

Quickley
- improve his vision? Seems to be very difficult, maybe unlikely to have this expectation?
- improve as a PoA defender? Seems to be difficult, but may have a chance?
Barrett
- improve his defense? Seems to be difficult, but may have a chance to be an average defender?
- become a PG? Seems to be difficult, but maturity may allow him?
Barnes
- improve his self creation? Seems to be very difficult, maybe unlikely to have this expectation (yet, near max player)?
- improve his shooting? Seems to be difficult, but may have a chance to be an average 3 point shooter?

I think it is better to be realistic on what they need to improve than just the expectation.
Regardless, I do not see someone who cannot create for himself to be a near max player, so the expectation will unlikely be met, even a DPOY Gobert.

This is more lopsided than the OKC vs Canada thread.

Gonna be a mess when we hit the actual offseason.

He definitely wasn't as good as advertised. Not a complete turnstile, but the effort wasn't there.

Knicks posters were surprised to hear it though and said he was solid for them. Maybe with Ingram there and the ball in his hands less, he'll have more energy to focus on it.

Quickley needs to get healthy first. Been too injury prone.

Barnes had a lot of things going against him that he should've fought through but didn't or couldn't for whatever reason. A lot of different conflicting focuses tearing against each other. Mainly his need to play 65 games despite the fact that he had no chance in hell at All-NBA and the team trying to tank without shame. Them coming somewhere in the middle really **** it up for both sides. But the focus is pretty singular and clear next season: WIN. So he better show up.

I think Barnes but absolutely no excuses for either of them. To me, next season should really be it for a lot of them.
