Beal to Charlotte?
Do the Hornets to this to start building a winning culture around Ball? Does Beal agree to have some more opportunity in the East?
Hornets receive Brad Beal, 2028 PHX 1st (High Protection)
Hornets pitch Beal on trying to win now/build winning culture. This isn’t a Championship team but should push for the playoffs next year with some further moves. Nurk and/or Okogie plus some draft capital can bring back a rotation player or two. Plus they will have access to the full MLE. I don’t think the Hornets go all in right now but at some point they have to start winning some basketball games and making the playoffs.
Top 8: LaMelo, Beal, Miller, FMLE, Williams, Salaun, #4, Okogie
Suns receive Miles Bridges, Josh Green, Grant Williams
Suns get off of Beal and bring in an MSU alum with a lot of baggage. All three players coming back to Phoenix look like they are ready for a change of scenery. Maybe Green and Grant will be able to rebuild some value. The Beal situation is getting pretty ugly and an out like this MIGHT appeal to him.
Top 8: Booker, Green, Dunn, Bridges, Richards, Grant, Allen, ONeal (whatever they get from KD)

Re: Beal to Charlotte?
That 2028 1st can't just be the Suns pick, it must be some 'worst of' pick that severely limits its value.
Also Beal says no even if Charlotte could be convinced.

I am well aware of all the protections on that pick

I am well aware of all the protections on that pickIf the Hornets are committed to winning the market fits. He wants warm weather. With the new ownership maybe the Hornets could be persuasive. Don’t know if the Hornets would want this but Beal does check a lot of boxes for them.
You really shouldn't sell it as a Phoenix 1st when that isn't accurate. Should really list he pick that the Suns can trade.

Dear Mr. Bradley Beal. At the off chance you're reading this post, Charlotte NC is a lovely city which offers a unique blend of culture, music and food. Close your eyes and imagine yourself snacking on a delicious pimento cheese sandwhich while sitting in the Nascar Hall of Fame listening to the delightful tunes of hometown R&B artist Nappy Brown.
Don't wait for the Suns to initiate this, pick up the phone and call Mr Ishbia right now. You'll thank me later.

Right?! Idk but the Hornets have had two 40 win seasons in 10 years and six in the last 25. That’s rough. Building a better team over the next two seasons while they develop their youth seems logical.

Re: Beal to Charlotte?
that pick has minimal value. this requires a 2032 swap on top for starters... if the Suns feel like digging out that last bit of dirt before they hit bedrock
then you get into the whole situation where Beal is almost definitely not okaying a trade to Charlotte, unless it is for us to just buy him out. Which results in probably $40M+ of dead cap (assuming an MLE level buyout) both this summer and the next, and effectively takes us out of being able to trade for anybody to try and compete. Which then means we will be entering year EIGHT of the LaMelo era with nothing to show for it in 2027. That's a non-starter in itself. The Suns simply do not have the assets to convince me to throw away multiple years so that they can avoid buying out a good player. Make a KD trade, then come back to me with some of those assets. A terrible move for PHX, but that's because there is simply nothing they can do with Beal that isn't terrible.

Really easy no.
We save no money long-term. We pick up no valuable assets. We pick up no future flexibility.

That’s totally fair but does he make you a better team? He checks a lot of boxes for your roster.

It does and I don’t know what Beal would okay at this point. Suns are getting loud about not wanting him. Just say he wanted to play next to Ball, Miller and Williams. Hornets have plenty of assets to add in some veteran win now pieces around the. To compete without sacrificing any real flexibility moving forward.
While WAY, WAY OVER PAID, Beal is still a hyper efficient scorer. They are moving crap out for a guy who is good at basketball and they are getting a crap first, but a first none the less, back.

Miles Bridges was 83rd% in EPM last year, Beal was 50%, so yeah probably not improving in this trade. Especially when giving two good depth pieces away on top of that.

I’m just not going to agree with you that Green and Williams are good depth. Bridges is has had a negative net rating every year in the NBA but one and has a ton of baggage that probably kills his value. I think the argument could be made that Beal, with his scoring efficiency, makes that team better next season. But I get not wanting his contract.

Josh Green and Grant Williams have been rotation players their entire careers, including playoff teams. They are 26 and 24 yrs old.
Bradley Beal was 67% offensive EPM and 22% defensive EPM.
Miles Bridges was 83% offensive EPM and 67% defensive EPM.
Both players lack trade value, but Bridges was better and is a much better value on his contract. If Beal was expiring and the selling point was Charlotte opened up future cap space then sure maybe it would be worth entertaining for 10 minutes. But the fact that Grant, Bridges, Green and Beal all have 2 years on their deals it is an easy no. Especially for Charlotte whose biggest issue the last few years has been health/depth. Trading for 3 for 1 for a guy that has averaged 49 games played the last 4 years is terrible on all levels.

I don't see a reason Charlotte would consider this. I think it needs that 2032 swap, as well, or multiple firsts included (probably every pick Phoenix can trade).

I think the issue with Charlotte is that they don’t have enough talent. Taking the EPM for players from one year and basing all basketball decisions on that number isn’t a good way to use metrics.
Bridges probably had the best year of his career and his defensive numbers are a huge reason why. But the deficiencies in his game hurt the team in a number of ways. 18th% in eFG% and poor TS% for his career (and especially last season). I think he is a bad fit for LaMelo. I want him surrounded by knock down shooters and defense. Beal isn’t a good defender but he is still an elite shooter and scorer, something Bridges is not.

Yeah, that’s fine and what I expected from most people. I just think Beal would actually help to improve the Hornets and I am not a huge fan of the crew returning to the Suns.

Not meaning to be controversial, but honest question - does anyone believe that Beal can actually play a significant role in contributing to a winning culture? Is there any evidence of him being a big culture guy in the past?
Not saying there isn't, I'm just not aware of it and curious.

I think Phoenix would still pay the first of it were Nurk (to a third team) in place of Bridges..
Given the contract they gave him, I assume CLT front office values Bridges similar to how CLT fans do. The on court matters more than the off court..
If this were Nurk.. It’s CLT getting better and getting a late first for taking on 30 million dollars. still not great value, but at least it’s junk/junk?
