I think the last few drafts have shown that Masai's days of drafting long, unskilled prospects are behind him. Maluach is a high risk, low reward prospect IMO, and I don't see Masai biting on that at this point in the team's development.

The reward would be having your C spot filled for over a decade with one of the tallest mobile bigs in the NBA. In no shape or form would that be low reward.

Either one is fine - Maluach for a bit more defense vs Queen for more offense.

I think if we draft Queen, then Boucher is gone (Queen will slot into the back up 4/5 spot just fine).

I want no part of Maluach. Doesn’t rebound. Can’t catch. No touch. Can’t move laterally.

No idea why people love him so much outside of height and wingspan.

I don't think there's a way we draft Queen over Maluach if both are on the board. I also think he fits better on our team, and in general is easier to build around, so I'd go with him, just knowing that alone.

Wouldn't be horrified at a trade down to nab an extra pick and grab Yang + something else. I'm really intruiged by Yang - though he obviously has a lot to work on to play in the NBA, he seems smart, plays hard, is a capable passer and can shoot the 3. He's a bit weak so probably won't be dominating the boards or defensively, but he seems like a prime candidate to develop into a very serviceable big in a year or two. I doubt he makes it to 39, but if our guys are gone by 9, I would feel ok trading 9 for two later 1sts to nab a couple guys among the pool of available bigs.

Malauch can’t pass or dribble so he can’t play in the system we have now. He isn’t dominant as an unassisted scorer and he isn’t an elite rebounder.

I don’t think he’ll turn out to be a bad rim protector but if that’s all we’re going to get out of the pick id rather go get Kessler or something.

I was a Queen fan but watching these playoffs I’m struggling to see how he isn’t played off the floor with his lack of speed and poor rim protection.

My vote is neither. I’m actually more in on Sorber who is the best of both worlds. Elite rim protector and has passing chops to play in the Darko offense.

The only reason they may take Queen is because of Darko system but i think they have KM ranked above.

Not saying that Maluach is a sure fire bet against Queen - i would consider both of them - but the above statement is pretty blatantly false. Maluach spent the entire season in Duke's switching defence and moves very well laterally for a man his size, and literally catches and finishes everything around the rim. Duke didn't even have a real point guard (Proctor is certainly more of a shooter than a set up guard) and relied on Kon and Flagg to create in the pnr. Yet they look like Nash throwing it up to Maluach as a lob target because of his high finish rate.

The question is whether he can develop beyond that, and if not is that worth a high pick. But he has a really good baseline for a modern defensive big.

I would say Queen is the higher risk with his poor shooting mechanics and lack of defensive intensity and seeming lack of motivation there. If he puts it together that's potentially an All Star calibre player however.

This.

But if we really want Sorber, we can probably trade down to get him, plus another tier 5 pick.

All of the tier 4 players likely available around #9 just aren't that much better then the ten players in tier 5, at 15-24.

I'd rather get Sorber plus one of Kalkbrenner/Berringer/Clayton Jr and have two shots at landing a rotation level player, then to take a crap shoot bet on Maluach (who doesn't fit our style of play) or Queen (who probably can't stay on the court in the playoffs).

Sorber is a compromise between the two, but if we can trade down for an extra FRP, then I think we should.

Unless Masai is just SOLD on Bryant, or someone else who drops.

Queen is such a unique prospect. Offensively he can do a variety of things - the passing, feel and quick processing is something that Darko would harness

maluach is undraftable given the visa issue. i could tolerate him as backup c but it’s not a situation we can risk when dude needs to cross the border every other game. queen is fine as a 3rd big, give our bench some juice over the mogbo’s and 2 way centers we ran out last year. plus he’s a competent defensive rebounder which would be a welcome addition. if olynik and bruce brown could put us on a 10 game win streak last year queen can be comfortably on an olynik level.

Neither. The NBA is a guard/wing ‘s league and big men can be found cheap and rarely pan out when picked high. The vast majority will end up role players. Would you be happy with Clint Capela or Robert Williams III with a top 10 pick?

The highest upside play for a star is to select a wing/guard.

do you have a link to the details? sure he can get drafted by an american team and stay in the country, play every game, skip the trip to toronto but given the uncertainty i wouldn’t even consider drafting him in our situation

Problem is the great ones are already taken by 9. I mean I’m not gonna be mad at drafting Bryant/Kon/Kasp/Denim/Jase but those guys are all underwhelming
