It would be pretty risky.... Cause if kd falls off, and we can't replace him we will take a step back with lots of future picks gone
i think the fit is much better. doesn't need to be set up like kat. another playmaker and ball handler, great iso scorer so you don't just have to rely on jalen, you can let him spot up from 3 and play him off the ball, not the defensive liability. you would need to get another center for insurance. nobody great. just someone who can defend and rim run a bit.
it's risky because of the age but eventually other teams in the east will get better. it's as wide open as it can be right now. 3 years from now who knows.
On paper he is a better fit and player. It’s a move that maybe gives us a better chance, but could also backfire and leave us in shambles.

you have to ask yourself how confident are you really in this current core winning it all ? does playing it safe accomplish what you really want or just give you a longer window of being pretty good but not good enough ?

Re: Trades and Transactions Thread - 2025 Cont'd
Durant has averaged 55 games played a season since 2020 season. I’m not even counting the year he sat out because of his achillies injury. He’s going to be 37 in September and not getting any healthier. The only reason to justify trading for KD would be creating Cap Space next offseason to go after Luka

and kat has averaged 57 in that same time frame

When is the last time a 37 year old led a team to a championship with his scoring as a primary option? Kareem in the mid 80's?

We do need to make some moves. It all depends what else is out there. And at least for me, have to think of what the plan is after next year with KDd contract. If there's some flexibility in there then it makes more sense, vs if we are screwed and it's just for a one year window I would pass
KD is an upgrade, but not completely sold he is that big of an upgrade. Still a really good player but also on the decline

He would have to agree to an extension of some sort. Knicks haven't operated with letting someone get to free agency.
Similarly we probably know pretty quickly if Mikal is staying or going. He will get his extension if he doesn't take it he will probably be on the trade block (they didn't trade all those picks to risk that). Similar situation with Mitch
The knicks won't be operating as a team under the cap so losing KD 50 MM the following year we won't be able to get cap space from losing him. It would basically go into the abyss.

People didn’t like when Brogdon was brought up earlier - but if we are running it back and with the limited salary/assets at hand, and offseason where we sign Brogdon for the minimum and Clint Capela for the tax MLE seems like a home run:
Brunson/Bridges/Anunoby/Towns/Capela
Brogdon/McBride/Hart/Robinson
Looks like a 9 deep playoff rotation to me.
Kolek/Dadiet/Hukporti would get chances when guys miss games. We would have one minimum slot and our 2nd rd pick to round out the roster to 14.
If you want to run it back, this is the kind of offseason you can expect.

Brogdon makes Anthony Davis look like an ironman when it comes injuries.

Hart Mikal and Mitch, 3 for AD. Love the idea of AD but we've done too many 2 for 1s recently which eats away at the depth. Who's going to fill those spots?
AD/KAT/Huk
KAT/AD/OG
OG/MLE (Simmons/Oubre/Trent Jr, Beasley- pick one)/ Dadiet or McCullar
MLE/McBride/ Wright
Brunson/ Wright/ Kolek
I hope this year's 4 rookies are all ready to play.
When you list AD, KAT, OG and Delon twice each, that's still only 4 guys.
Little BBIQ test......Do you have any idea why they are listed 2x? Did you count how many players total make up that rotation?

Brunson would still be the number 1 option. He's a more well rounded offensive player than Durant at this stage.
KD has basically become an elite shooter. He rarely gets to the rim anymore.

Jokich. Plus draft picks. (2nd rounders though).
I got one
Knicks trade Hart, Huk, and Kolek to the Pels for Herb Jones and the 2026 Indiana 1st pick.
The Knicks then have access to the Full MLE and trade the Full MLE and Indiana draft pick to Houston for Cam Whitmore and Jack Landale.
Starters
Brunson
Bridges
OG
KAT
Mitch
Bench
McBride
Cam
Herb
Landale
Why do Knicks do it, Hart is a really good player but his size/Shooting issues make him a liability in a 5 out offense. Meanwhile the Pelicans are looking to improve with a shaky backcourt without Murray. Hart comes in and helps Alvarado hold the back court down and is actually an interesting backcourt partner with Murray. They are a transition team which actually works better with Hart between Murray, and Murphy. Plus they are a year from paying Jones and he is coming off an injury.
Knicks get Jones and then send the pick for a defensive backup Center Landale and Cam. Rockets do it to get a first back from Cam and because I have a feeling they will draft a Center and bring back Adams.
