Yep. Dolan apparently never liked him. He fired Thibs prematurely with no replacement lined up. I can’t believe that our main plan is trying to steal other team’s head coaches. To me that shows this was all done prematurely.

Prematurely? WWW wanted Thibodeau out of here since he refused to take RJ out of a blowout game that caused RJ to get injured. He also wanted him out of here during an all-star break, but Rose declined to fire Thibodeau.

WWW wanted him fired since the 2022-2023 season.

My guess with how this is going is that the Knicks are first reaching out to any coaches around the league that interest them....

They clearly value experience in this hire and obviously active coaches have some experience.

Once that well runs dry then they'll move to either their targets who are currently unemployed, in college, or are assistants who generally get permission to interview.

Which makes sense to me since they are the only available job... It's not like these assistants or unemployed folk are jumping anywhere else lol

People are saying this is normal, I dont remember the Cavs firing Bickerstaff then requesting to speak to all the other playoff coaches for due diligence.

They might have set up other talks concurrently but we're just not hearing about the stuff that they're doing with coaches who aren't under contract. This management group doesn't seem to like talking directly to the fanbase. They're more interested in throwing nuggets out there to generate interest while they operate in the background.

Thibs wasn’t hired until late July after a 2 month search even though he was the favorite. These things can take time.

Malone would be a mistake, same exact issues as Thibs had, doesn't fix any of those problems.

Kidd also is similar to Thibs, neither are good choices.

Dan Hurley or Bryant are my old two good options imo, I mean unless other candidates pop up but Kidd and Malone are bad choices imo, they'd just be Thibs 2.0..

I guess I'm not really sure how this is embarrassing or showing of "no plan" as some say.

The Knicks have all the leverage in the market. Again we're the only job available if you are currently trying to be a HC in the NBA.

Of course if they have interest in other Head Coaches you need to reach out to them first because you need permission to interview them.

Like you said, they very well could have a list of assistants, unemployed, college coaches, etc. but they don't have to worry about them at the moment because there's quite literally no where else for them to go.

Also if people are worried about optics or if they're going to piss off other candidates, then I would counter by saying we have a guy at the top who has dealt with plenty of conflicts being an agent for decades. Also if a head coach really doesn't want to come here because they weren't interviewed first then they probably weren't the right candidate anyway lol

The Cavs are in Cleveland

The Knicks are in NY.

It's not crazy for them to think they may have more pull.

Veteran coaches available wouldn’t excite anyone. Budenholzer is OK I guess. Malone is blah. Vogel sucks. Mike Brown is one dimensional and soft.

Who else?

Mike D’Antoni? Sure, I guess. Why not?

If this was 15 years ago Phil Jackson would have taken the job.

Who’s out there? Pitino?
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Not worried yet, don't need a miracle worker coach just someone who checks the boxes Thibs didn't. Could be a more surprising hire if someone aces the interview. I kind of hope it is someone who surprises them and not just a big name.

We knew about the Minnesota and Rockets denying the Knicks since last week though.

The sports media is out here using the Knicks as filler until Pacers-Thunder games.

How are they getting embarrassed when they're all on vacation?? :dontknow:

What's embarrassing is that a city of 7 million people is falling for every single rumor, tweet, YouTube video, and KNICKS4CLICKS they can find. WE are getting used by the media (for the millionth time) who recognize that our lack of patience and "need-to-know-NOW" attitude will make them richer with every (true or false) tidbit they release.

And, if you're still wondering "WTF are they doing?" -- it's probably this:

Wait, I thought the conspiracy was the Knicks were supposed to keep quiet and not be a distraction until the finals are over. Cause legitimately interviewing a couple of available coaches would tank the ratings
