Knicks Denied Permission To Interview Chris Finch, Ime Udoka

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 11, 2025 3:12 am

The New York Knicks have been denied permission to interview Chris Finch and Ime Udoka. Finch is entrenched with the Minnesota Timberwolves, as is Udoka with the Houston Rockets.

The Knicks could request permission for other head coaches currently employed by other teams. The Knicks have been strongly linked with Jason Kidd, but have yet to request permission.

New York is searching for a new head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau.

They shouldn’t have fired Thibs without a clearcut route to an upgrade…

I think they had squeezed every drop of usefulness out of Thibs. It was time for a change.

Always a great idea to try and build a parachute while you are already free-falling... Maybe they should have thought about this before jumping.

The best time to find a new job/partner is when you already have one. How the Knicks have messed this up, especially without calling Tyronn Lue, makes me wonder if Rose peaked as a GM at the end of last season, before the Bridges and Towns trades.

Well, I've been making that argument on another thread. We agree, Kidd is the wrong choice... for any team.

My first call would probably be to Bud. Last year's travesty aside, he's a great coach. Maybe JVG, who only had one losing season as a head coach, (the year both T-Mac and Yao went down.) Maybe long-time assistant Joe Prunty. Realistically, there are probably hundreds of qualified candidates for one of the most coveted coaching positions in basketball. They can have their pick of the litter. That said, I have no idea why they want to hire Kidd.
