the only other avenue is Kidd publicly coming out he doesn't want to coach the mavs anymore. If he doesn't do that the Knicks will need to move on.

Again I have to assume if the Knicks had Kidd as there top choice they had to know through back channels that he wanted to come no?

I can't believe this is a situation where the Knicks FO was like...hey we like Kidd...lets see if he's interested by requesting permission to talk to him.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

Me neither, but would that be different than the pursuit of Udoka and Finch?

Interesting thought, is there a reason they requested Udoka and Finch earlier than Kidd...why not do the requestion all at once if they were all equal footing? Or was that to throw off the sent that the Knicks already connected with Kidd through his agent and he has interest in coach but they wanted to cover it up by not just obviously requesting the one coach they talked to by requesting 2 other highly respected coaches?

The main reason I was in on the Kidd smoke was because we never formally requested permission.

Now that we have been formally denied, I think he goes in the pile with the rest. Especially they since they just hired a second assistant to his staff.

It sure seems like they weren’t planning to fire Thibs and now they’re grasping at straws to replace him with someone they can sell as an upgrade

The Popper tweet makes it sounds like from a Knicks perspective just because they were denied doesn't mean they are going to give up chase. That would only mean one thing. Kidd has to make his feelings known.

But like I said earlier this morning...how could the coaching search be reliant on a Leon and Co "hoping" to get permission. I haven't been aligned with every move the FO makes...but this be odd to me that they were banking on such a small % chance without knowing something.

Yes we're so desperate being the only team with an NBA HC opening, coming off a Conference Finals run, and with a roster that is in its prime.

We quite literally have our pick of the litter.

You guys are ridiculous man

I think that would constitute a full and potentially costly tampering investigation.

The flipside of the argument is that we're the only team looking for a coach and it costs you nothing to put in interview requests with your ideal candidates (while you are possibly on vacation).

The Malones, Budenholzers, college coaches, etc... of the world aren't going anywhere.

Mod Team Announcement:

As this is a inflection point and highly impactful time, please keep posting respectable and conversational. You have the right to express your opinions on either end but the sh*tposting social media accounts (to get reactions) is not it, there are social media platforms for that. Please don't make us take action and read the new board policies

Spoiler:
GONYK wrote:Hey folks, Leon Rose doesn't do State of the Team offseason pressers, but we do.

As we head into the offseason, it’s time to level with each other. Not just about the Knicks, but about this community.

This board has long been one of the most passionate, thoughtful fan spaces on RealGM. But recently, the energy has shifted. Threads are getting hijacked. Constructive posters are checking out. And too often, the discourse feels more like Twitter than the board we’ve all helped build.

That’s on all of us. Including the mod team.

Where We Fell Short

We’ve let too much slide.

- We waited too long to step in when threads were derailed or dominated by personal agendas.
- We allowed sniping and one-note posting to go unchecked.
- And we didn’t do enough to protect the quality voices that make this place great.

That silence let the floor drop. And for that, we own it.

What’s Not Working

- Agenda posting: If your post could’ve been copy-pasted into any thread for the last 6 months, it’s probably not helping the conversation.
- Personal shots: Debate the point. Don’t attack the poster.
- Performative outrage: Passion is part of Knicks fandom. But constant heat with no light is pushing smart voices out of the room.

What’s Changing

We’re not trying to sterilize the board. Knicks fans are supposed to be loud, sharp, and opinionated. But we are recommitting to holding the line:

- Stronger enforcement on trolling, repetition, and personal attacks.
- Agenda behavior (even subtle) will be flagged and addressed.
- Thread quality will be moderated more actively. That means faster locks, splits, and warnings when conversations spiral.

We’ll also be posting clearer community guidelines soon, so expectations are transparent across the board.

What We Want More Of

- Posts with thought, context, stats, perspective, or at least a fresh lens.
- Disagreement that sharpens the conversation, not dulls it.
- The return of quality posters who’ve been lurking or gone quiet. Your voice still matters here.

And we want to be crystal clear on this point:

There is zero tolerance for any denigration, implied or direct, toward marginalized communities.
That includes racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any form of bigotry.

It doesn’t matter if it’s dressed up as sarcasm, dog whistles, or off-topic “jokes.”
It will be dealt with and repeat offenders will be removed.

This forum is for everyone. If that’s a problem for you, this isn’t the place for you.

To the Vets, the Lurkers, and the Frustrated

If you've held back because the climate felt hostile, we hear you. We let some of that fester. That changes now.

And to the folks who have stayed committed to quality posting even when it felt thankless: thank you. You've carried this place.

Our Ask to the Community

This isn’t just about moderation. It’s about all of us.

We’re stepping up. But we need you to step up with us.

If you want this board to be smart, fun, and worth your time, help us protect that. Lead with curiosity. Respect the posters around you, even when you disagree. If something feels off, report it. And most importantly, contribute in a way that adds to the signal, not just the noise.

We’ll do our part. Please do yours.

Final Word

We all want the same thing: a Knicks team that competes, earns respect, and makes us proud.

Let’s make this board the same.

We’re not here to police opinions. But we are here to protect the community. We’re asking you to help us do that together.

I get what you’re saying but there has to be a coach that the Knicks can get that will at least try a 5 out lineup for a decent portion of the game. There has to be a coach that looks at the lack of touches from Towns in general and thinks that hey maybe we should draw a play here to give him the ball.

There HAS to be a coach who can draw up a play off a timeout or someone that runs something other than “Brunson save us” for the last 9 minutes of every game.
When you say 5 out line up who is that 5th guy? We ran 5 out but you have to have either Mitch or Hart out there. And nkbody who wants to coach more than a year is starting Miles McBride, KAT and JB together.

What's wrong with Brunson, McBride, Bridges, OG, KAT

That’s what I’m wondering lol.

This is brilliant misdirection. By desperately trying to hire other teams top coaches first and not getting them, it’ll show the world how much we really liked our 8th choice the most lol

I just see it as due diligence. There's no risk that any assisstants get hired cause there aren't many vacancies right now.
