Spurs have a great opportunity to have Wemby, Castle and #2 pick all on the same timeline. I'll be shocked if the Spurs trade the #2 to anyone. Wemby is 21 years old, there is no rush.

Yeah that seems more likely.

Was wishful thinking on my part..

I see the cap having huge influence here. They have Wemby who will get Supermax, Castle who will get Max or Supermax and Harper who will get Max or Supermax. All at the same time or (staggered for 1-2 years)
This is how the Durant, Westbrook and Harden team got dismantled because of cap

I think the better way is to have Wemby, Castle and a Supermax/Max, so when both will get their paycheck the older Supermax can be traded/contract ended

Someone will eventually go between Fox, Castle, Harper. Like I said, it wouldn't be shocking to me if the Spurs traded Fox this off-season.

Seems like any trade will be to dump either Holidays or KP salaries and maybe get some first round picks that won't amount to much in years, or at all. Not very exciting what is happening and will make the team worse.

However I don't blame the new owners honestly. I would be doing everything I can to get out of luxury tax hell considering JT won't be back until at least October of 2026 and next year they will be lucky to make the play in tournament.

Only reason why i think it might be sourced is because in the full pod when they’re talking about spurs and giannis, he mentions “talking with people with the spurs” and saying they won’t want to put castle in giannis package because that’s going too much in one timeline and doesn’t want wemby to be left with no one once the giannis era is over

I heard Mannix talking about this I think on BST and my first thought was "Is Steph Castle really that much more valuable than Dylan Harper (or whoever at #2)?"

I honestly don't have super clear feelings on this and as a Big East guy I'm definitely pulling for him to be good. But Harper (my choice at #2) feels like he has a higher ceiling to me.

Exact thought i had but teams overvalue their young players once they have them in their building and see them have success in the league even if it’s just one year.

I haven't seen this about Vucevic elsewhere, but the Celtics certainly need another center if KP is traded.

I think he's talking about a few years ago when Vucevic was traded to chicago..there were rumors back then that we were gonna use our Hayward TPE to trade for Vucevic but we got Fournier instead..

That makes sense because I remember interest back in 2023.

October of 2026 is probably the most pessimistic scenario but the one the Celtics should use. This is exactly why I've always been in the camp of trade Jrue first to dump the salary and be working at no worse than being in the 1st apron. So you dump Hauser as well. In the 1st apron you can use the MLE up to a $12M per to get a Hauser replacement if Sheierman doesn't work out.
Jrue at his age is more of a risky luxury in 2026-27

It would really surprise me a bunch.

They just traded for the dude, they has a bunch of games building symmetry between Wemby and He. It would be a step back to reset that now.
Add to that, what are teams going to give up for fox that improves them immediately?

Based on your logic it makes more sense to keep castle, Wemby and Fox as when Wemby and Castle are have supermax kick in, Fox is on a new contract and is, ideally, a continued to improve player at an allstar level.

He only has 2025-26 under contract right now so no one is giving up oodles for him, knowing they can lose him in the offseason.

Makes sense to look at PGs. Tatum has pretty much fully assumed that "point forward" role the last two years. And honestly, it still looks clunky at times. He still doesn't excel dribbling through traffic and he kind of struggles to balance both looking to score and also knowing when to pass. It's all relative, as he's an elite top 5 player, so don't take it too harshly. But once he's back off injury, they might not want to count on him fully reassuming that role. A guard who can handle and make plays in a more traditional way might be a way to help ease him back.

And I would add it's going back to the Kemba Walker and Kyrie days for the Jays. A smallish point guard is fine to play defensively if stockier build like Brunson and Joseph showed in the playoffs (post defense) but also needs to guard well in space too.

I didn't' see Brunson as playable on defense at all. He's only playable because he gives you so much on the other end. He's short, slow and can't jump. His best defense is flopping for a charge call.

Wonder if Al knew something about the Walter Clayton situation when he was tweeting about him during the Final Four.

The rest of the guys seem out of reach without a huge deal in place or just sort of raw and janky in one way or another.

Edit: they are both smaller which is an issue but the other guy I still like is Jase Richardson.

This is interesting. They’ have to climb up pretty high to get a pg in the draft. Not a whole lot of pg prospects projected to go in the 20s

Clayton, Saraf, Traore could all go in the 20's, possibly. There's a slight chance Demin, Jakucionis or Fears falls into that 16-26 range.

Kam Jones is more of a combo-guard but he could be there at 28, without having to trade up..

It's definitely not ideal. But perfection isn't always attainable. I think some of us are spoiled by the team Brad built for that title. 5 out spacing for like the full game. Not lacking in rim protection. Only Pritchard undersized. Secondary ball handling/passing all over the court. The team we had the last few years, for the most part, had no real strategic or schematic weakness personnel wise. Brad's going to have a tough time recreating that. We probably have to "settle" for a smaller guard having a bigger role or a big that can't shoot playing a lot moving forward. It's just going to be really, really hard to re-do the almost perfect fitting group they put together for this run.

Per the Celtics, Jaylen Brown underwent a successful right knee arthroscopic debridement procedure today.

Brown is expected to participate in training camp without limitation.

A quick Google search says the recovery timeline for Brown's procedure is generally 4-8 weeks to return to daily activities. It's up to 12 weeks to return to athletic endeavors without setbacks.

Here's more on this minimally invasive procedure, via Mercy Health.

Worded differently but pretty positive that’s the same surgery that Rob Williams had. Trimming the meniscus instead of repairing it has a shorter recovery but worse long term results. Sometimes trimming it is the only option depending on the tear.
