Welp… that isn’t remotely an acceptable trade. It is pretty laughable.

Wemby
Durant/Sochan
Harper/Champagnie
Castle/Johnson
Fox

Then they'd have about 30 million to fill in the rest of the bench. It's a little undersized at the 2/3 but they'd have a ton of playmaking with all 3 of Harper/Castle/Fox.
I just hate the idea of starting 3 PGs in today's NBA.

If he goes to the Spurs it'll be for a combination of Vassell/Keldon/Barnes/Sochan/14th pick/future picks. No chance Fox/Castle/2nd pick are offered. This isn't Giannis.

If they can get him without giving up Fox, Castle, or #2, they should definitely go for it. They'd be contenders with Wemby-KD-Fox leading the way and they'd still have their future core intact.

please explain why. Spurs can't just trade for KD without unloading salary since they have Fox and Wemby to pay. You can't expect the Nets to take on salary (one of the only teams that can btw) without rewarding them for doing so which is why they get the #2 pick. The Suns get a 3 and D in Johnson to help them remain competitive while also picking up two lottery picks for KD. Who is this unfair to?

Vassell + Keldon + Sochan + 14th pick 2025

This is good deal for Phoenix

Wemby
Durant
Barnes
Castle
Fox

2nd pick

Some team is going to try to overpay for KD so I think realistically Fox would have to be in the deal.

If I'm Phoenix and I don't own my picks, I would want a fringe all-star to pair with Booker. Fox, Booker and defenders would make the Suns somewhat competitive next year.

Wemby is 21 years old. KD is not the right piece for this team. It's the Spurs, so I suspect they'll quietly draft at #2 and loudly dominate the league in 3-4 years.

the coup de grace of this whole thing is us getting the 2nd pick in what looks like a 2-player draft. Harper puts us in a fantastic position going forward.

I wouldn't give up anything of value for KD. Phoenix HAS to trade him, we don't HAVE to get him. We can afford to be patient and either steal him, or not get him - this is all a leverage game and Ishbia is holding a terrible hand.

edit: and the damndest thing is that KD himself wants us to steal him!

I have already explained myself in this thread. Just go back and read.

The Suns aren’t in a position to dictate terms as they don’t have leverage. Look at the Suns GM and when was the last time he did a good trade.

Anything.

This dates back to even before Lebron joined the Miami Heat. You could see the betting lines change drastically.

The Spurs will be a good fit for him. KD is supposedly Wemby's favorite player all-time. KD can see how far he can take the team with Wemby.

I assume KD's primary goals are to win and to be top 2 all time in points scored.

There's a limit to how much you can put on a prop market like that - I don't think agents would take the risk for the relatively miniscule return.

Sport journalists on the other hand probably wouldn't mind making a few extra bucks. But we're not talking life-changing money here due to the betting limits.

If the Spurs trade Fox in this manner, I guarantee Fox will view it as him having been screwed over (and rightfully so) after he made it clear he wanted to be in SA. San Antonio has had a hard enough time attracting talent as it is, and the reputational hit they'd take from this would not be worth the (very) short-term gain. For that reason alone (not to mention how out-of-character it would be vs. the way the Spurs organization has historically operated) I can't envision any scenario where Fox is traded in the near future.

Spurs could probably give him whatever he wants for the 2026-27 season

But the 2027-28 season is difficult. It’ll be the first year of Wemby’s max contract
I don’t see the spurs breaking whatever they have at that point for a 39 years old KD
