The guy you traded 5 picks for and absolutely must resign to not embarrass yourself further has more influence in your decisions. Again, nobody cares what Deuce has to say but they are listening to the whining by Mikal. If he’s not happy then you have to trade him but you aren’t getting anything close to the package you gave up to get him so the last thing you want is for him to not only want out but dictate where he wants to go. He has leverage

It’s not the first time, we’ve never fired the coach because a few players didn’t like their role. Obi, Grimes, Fournier, I’m sure there were others. We never cared about their opinions though we just shipped them out since that was easy. There would be nothing easy about a Mikal Bridges trade. Especially when he gives you an ultimatum of either me or the coach. Firing the coach would be an easier pill to swallow than needing to work a Bridges trade knowing his value is nowhere close to what you paid for him and you aren’t in a good place with the salary cap to begin with.

OG is one of the highest paid players on the team he certainly has influence...he is likely who Hart was talking about early in the season to buy-in and player there roles.

KAT has influence because he is a big name piece was also traded for.

Brunson has influence because he is the captain.

I don't think anyone outside of Brunson has legit power. You aren't making decision solely based on what Mikal or KAT or OG had to say. They all very likely didn't mesh with Thibs.

Brunson is the most powerful athlete in NY and he publicly wanted Thibs to stay.

it was more of like I don't want him fired but he also isn't going to throw a fit now because he's gone. Same with Hart. It's just no their personality and they have had the most years with Thibs outside of Mitch.

Again if we are believing one of the BKE reports that 7 out of 9 players had issues with Thibs and the guess is they aren't asking Hukporti what his feelings on Thibs is or even valuing it that means KAT, Mikal, OG, Mitch, and Deuce along with any other rotation player like Precious ect probably had issues with Thibs. If it was just Mikal then yes maybe I would understand but it was pretty much the entire team that had issues with him.

Then factor in the lineup thing with Hart at the end of the year. the issues with WWW a few years back. Thibs was on thin ice to begin with. The majority of the playres having an issue with him probably was the final straw.

Jalen is a team player.

My only real point is that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one, whether that one is Jalen or Mikal or whoever.

This was clearly a situation that was brewing. At least 7 players and probably a prominent exec or two felt it was time to move on.

We never cared about their opinions though we just shipped them out since that was easy. There would be nothing easy about a Mikal Bridges trade. Especially when he gives you an ultimatum of either me or the coach. Firing the coach would be an easier pill to swallow than needing to work a Bridges trade knowing his value is nowhere close to what you paid for him and you aren’t in a good place with the salary cap to begin with.
