How do you know that tho? Apparently it happens far more often than we know according to guys like Windy who said as much this week. We just don’t hear about it.

that's not an interview. they talk to people through back channels to gauge interest but they're actually not allowed to talk to them without permission. it's tampering.

if you ask a team for an official interview and they agree they don't come back afterwards. it doesn't happen. you're hiring that guy.

IKR!

In this case, everyone involved must have known at least somewhat that the extension was a golden parachute for Thibs. He did a lot of great work bringing the culture back up here but the man has a shelf life and had already caused some challenges.

I dunno the difference between back channeling and a formal interview honestly. Like what couldn’t you cover thru back channels that you could in a formal interview?

Kinda semantic-ish, but I dunno… Leon probably wanted to put it out there for whatever reason just like he sent Randle, Wes, and Houston to the playoffs to openly court Brunson and Donovan… he moves a lil different.

On to the free agent list. It'll take awhile not because we have no idea who we're going to interview from that pool but because we haven't yet done due diligence there. Frankly, I think there are a couple of better options there.

it's fine but just don't sell it to me as they were just gathering information. they were trying to hire those guys and got rebuffed.

i don't even care that much who they hire. well there are a few that would be pretty depressing. let me know when they fix the personnel.

nothing. which is why when you ask for it officially you're really asking to hire him. they don't need to ask ime udoka what his defensive philosophy is after getting permission. they know everything already.

I'm starting to think that as Tom dug in and refused to budge on a lot of what we saw, everyone up top probably knew that they had to do this regardless of outcome. Dolan might have already viewed this as a sunk cost well before the players made their call.

He definitely does...If you think about it. He's been in several different positions of power- with a multitude of relationships from those positions.
As an agent- think about all of the key people he has dealt with over the years to get deals for his players. Then he represented coaches as well...
Now as president for the last 5 years...
It pretty obvious that whatever he actually initiated -it served a PURPOSE. If anyone knows anything -its because HE wanted them to and it for a reason.

They’ve said who’s our main targets are, which is who we’ve tried to go after. I’m not sure why you think otherwise?

i didn't say i do. i'm not in here fighting for a position. you are the one speaking definitively like you have the whole story when none of us do.

there could be way more going on/planning/strategy that KFTV and KFS don't know about. assuming you've got it right now all just seems rash.

I never said I have the whole story? I’m just repeating what shams and Marc stein said and going off the actions we’ve made that correlate with what they have been reporting. You can choose to believe what you want.

The long haul process starts now.

Maybe with coaches from the orgs they already contacted... they wouldn't have done the poaching right away? Just trying to see what they were up against? I don't know - all of those seemed like obvious nos to me with the exception of Kidd who you could think wasn't happy about the Doncic trade. I'm a little confused about it but no real harm done. The same FA candidates are still available.
