Would next season's possible pairing of Giannis + SGA be a better duo than Prime Shaq and Kobe?

I don't agree with disrupting an elite well oiled machine with trading key pieces away just because he's a generational superstar. If they lose this Finals they'll be even better next year because of the fact that they're the youngest team in the NBA and not even in their primes yet

the fact that they had 20 turnovers in one half and were only up 10 is pathetic, if SGA was an all time great level player they would have been up by 30 at the half and game would have been over

That isn't how team basketball works. SGA can't do everything for his team; no one player can.

Blaming SGA for this loss is fairly ridiculous.

With the new CBA, I don't know if trading for Giannis is the right move. They have a good thing going on there, why mess up the chemistry? The fit is awkward too.

I mean, Giannis is a superstar, so I understand the motive. He'd make OKC better in the short term, no doubt.

Uh, nothing is guaranteed. Ever. Except death. Yeah, that's a gimme.

they will roll it again whatever the result, maybe just a tweak in rotation, no big moves

that's one of the best defenses of all time and they can get better. chet and jdub will get better and more consistent

It's amazing that not a few fans here forget who great Shaq was at his peak. I mean the guy can really move laterally and was very athletic and was not just a giant who dislodges defenders to get dunks.

I think the premise is if OKC fails badly to win it all and gets dominated by Indiana. It's unlikely though but it can happen.

I think one strength of the THunder is their depth. Dont have any real Mozart type geniuses and SGA is only a nuance better than the rest but that isnt neccessarily something bad, rather the opposite. OKC cant suddenly turn bad because one injury, or one guy who gets a few early fouls. They wont suffer from a guy load managing and playing only 60 games. So why would they get better by giving a ton away for Giannis?

so that’s 2010 at most. Shaq’s peak was between 1995-1999

I agree. But Giannis is a different type of dominance.

Also, people are focusing too much on offensive fit. They'll make it work. It's OKCs defense that will shift from great to otherworldy.

The issue with the Giannis/Dame pairing is that Lillard is a net negative on defense. And you can't be that as a guard in this era of the NBA, unless your name is Steph Curry of course.

I'd imagine OKC will look to keep J-Dub and trade Chet.

2 more games before Presti contact Thanasis and negotiate all Antetokounmpo brothers and cousins a 3-year contract for Giannis to demand a trade to OKC.

As good as Giannis is I’m not sure he solves the flaws in OKC.

Giannis has always been his best as the ball dominant lead guy creating for shooters.

Him and SGA together scoring a heap of isolation buckets doesn’t really scream unstoppable offence to me.

Honestly if it wasn’t for the age thing I’d suggest KD would be the better target.

yeah the 2-man game between Giannis and Lillard hasn't been anywhere near what people thought it would be, Giannis-Shai pairing would be better
but it wouldn't be anywhere near a KD Warriors level of domination. they would still win multiple titles just off of talent alone though (if they stayed healthy)

They need to do something if the Pacers beat them and I don't think 38 years old KD is the answer. With Giannis, it will be the closest thing to 2017 Warriors that there's barely a close game and it won't matter much if SGA and Giannis aren't clutch enough.

when you consider what they'd have to give up for Giannis (likely JDub + Hartenstein + another bench piece) I think they'd be much closer to the 2012/2013 Heat than the 2017 Warriors, sort of an awkward fit but they still win multiple titles just based on sheer talent alone but not in quite the dominant fashion that Golden State did

I'm referring to 2017 Warriors in a sense that they are almost unbeatable they can finish their opponents by the end of 3rd quarter with 25+ points lead so it won't matter if Giannis/SGA aren't clutch. This OKC squad is regarded as an ATG team with 2nd best net rating all-time just behind 1996 Bulls while Giannis is capable to carry a g-league squad to playoffs berth. If they wanted to, they can exceed 73 wins in the season.
