Very interesting to see how this shakes out. I think Durant will ultimately end up somewhere else. I picture trading a 24/12 Center in his prime will ultimately be perceived as too big a risk for the FO. Especially if the deal wasn't going to bring back a Center with it. Durant + Mitch would be a frontcourt highly vulnerable due to injuries. Durant is probably a best fit in Minnesota as they have a durable defensive Center in Gobert. Same goes for the Spurs as well. If Mitch was durable I could see more appetite for the FO to go after Durant but relying on Mitch would be too risky.

If the Knicks acquire Durant then it means they really have no confidence in the defensive aspect of the JB-KAT pairing.

Knicks about to rely on 48/82 of broke Mitch and Simmsporti. Seems like a wise approach

Couple that injury risk as you point, along with the lack of #1 picks going forward as a result of the Bridges trade, is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah there would need to be more to it than just KAT for KD. We would need a starting Center

Would people be happy with a KD for Mikal and Mitch?

We would probably re-sign Achiuwa to play center.

I’d be more open to that than Kat for Durant. That being said. Man the optics of that bridges trade gets even worse

Bro, 100% agree with you. There's NO good trade feasible bringing back KD.

The salaries don't match.

KD makes $54.7 million
Mikal and Mitch together make $37.9 million

Any Knicks/Suns trade requires a third team because neither the Knicks or the Suns could take on more salary than the other.

OG/Mitch/Kolek for KD is the closest you can get to match salaries and because it's merely 7 thousand dollars off, the trade still doesn't go through

That’s the issue nothing that we send out for Durant makes me feel good. Deal bridges and it’s a horrible trade having sent 5 picks for bridges for 1 year rental of 37 year old Durant

Kat. Gaping hole at center for a guy who was suppose to help transform our offense.

OG loss of defensive anchor and good supporting player.

I really hope it’s plausible to do a bridges for Jaren Jackson Jr swap.

Then go out and get someone like sexton off the bench.

Brunson
Deuce
og
Towns
JJJ

Kolek sexton hart Huk dadiet Mitch off the bench. Ship Mitch out for another 3 and d wing

KAT going to a third team who KD has no interest in is probably the play here unless Booker pushes for his buddy KAT.

Magic can put together an interesting young package, for example, that nets them KAT.

So windy and Shams have continued with Knicks and KD however every beat writer that covers the knicks has adamantly said no KD to the knicks, so what are we to believe?

Shams has never missed in his life. I’ll take his word over guys who has mediocre track records.

That players, agents, and teams continue to use Knicks to gain leverage in negotiations. A tale as old as time...

KAT with Banchero and Franz would not be a good fit IMO. I would be shocked if Orlando would put KAT with them.

I don’t think we’re getting KD and Giannis is prob gunna chicken out n stay. Better to improve on the margins this summer and make sure to stay below the 2nd apron just in case an opportunity pops up at the trade deadline..

Is KD even better than KAT at this point?

Their numbers this year were neck and neck essentially, while KAT is 7 years younger. Sure, maybe Id pick KD for the next season, but the dude can fall off a cliff real quick at his age. To me the slight potential upgrade, if it even is an upgrade, is not worth the risk of shortening our window to essentially the next 1-2 years.

Id like to see KAT, and all our guys really, under a new coach/system here. He had a great season overall, even if he clearly isnt perfect, and was amazing the first few months.

Jalen / Deuce
Mikal
Kevin / Josh
OG
Mitch / Ariel

Something like this is what we’d be rolling with, but lets assume wed add some vets to the bench too, whoever they would be.

Mitch can be dominant on the boards and defense at times, but he’s just not healthy, consistent, or well rounded enough to be relied on as a championship team starter. While Ariel is still very unproven obviously.

Id rather keep Karl. Giannis is another story.

Most likely nothing major is going to happen trade wise. We just dont have the assets. We’ll get a new coach and make some small moves/signings. We made our big splashes already with OG, KAT, and Mikal.

I originally thought KD to the Spurs was realistic, but now I don't know anymore.

Knicks may be one of the few teams who would be willing to give KD the 2 year, $120 million extension that he is looking for.

I think the main reason we really lost out on KD in 2019 is because we were unwilling to give him the full max coming off of his Achilles injury.

Things are different now. I feel like even if KD were to get hurt, we would still gamble on him if it's just KAT and a minimum-salary player we would give up in a trade. Knicks would still likely be a 50+ win team with KD out. We were even above .500 while Jalen was out because OG, Mikal, and KAT were playing so well towards the end of the season.

KD plays smarter, so there's that. KD is more mobile defensively.

KD can't play Center though. KAT is a more physical big than he gets credit for.
