KD plays smarter, so there's that. KD is more mobile defensively.

KD can't play Center though. KAT is a more physical big than he gets credit for.

Yeah I mean of course KD is more mobile, while KAT is bigger and better on the boards and such. KD obviously won championships with GS, but that was a while ago on a stacked team, while KAT is coming off back to back CF appearances.

They’re both hyper efficient scorers who dont need to dominate the ball, and are pretty similar for the most part. Neither are great defenders. I just dont see the swap being worth the age risk.

Swap not worth the age risk AND KD is only under contract control 1 year vs. Up to 3 more for KAT.

with how LeBron has aged so well, I feel like KD is doing close to the same

we should get at least two more great years out of KD before we see a massive drop-off

we might not even see one from KD

Kat's issue was not physicality. He was plenty physical this year. His problem is that he struggles with proper body positioning in certain situations to play sound defense which gets him into serious foul trouble. Thibs did not adjust to playing him in a way that would minimize some of those weaknesses and did not stagger him in Brunson quite enough.

KAT going to a third team who KD has no interest in is probably the play here unless Booker pushes for his buddy KAT.

Magic can put together an interesting young package, for example, that nets them KAT.

I think Orlando is looking for a PG and probably holding on to assets to make that upgrade. They probably aren’t looking to invest all that money and assets into a front court while still dealing with their PG issues

I originally thought KD to the Spurs was realistic, but now I don't know anymore.

Knicks may be one of the few teams who would be willing to give KD the 2 year, $120 million extension that he is looking for.

I think the main reason we really lost out on KD in 2019 is because we were unwilling to give him the full max coming off of his Achilles injury.

Things are different now. I feel like even if KD were to get hurt, we would still gamble on him if it's just KAT and a minimum-salary player we would give up in a trade. Knicks would still likely be a 50+ win team with KD out. We were even above .500 while Jalen was out because OG, Mikal, and KAT were playing so well towards the end of the season.

Don’t know if I’m ok with 60m of our cap going to a 39 year old who’s declining especially after his achilles injury.

Just the thought of that is mind boggling and stirs up bad memories of:

Fans expect players to join the Knicks because of their brand but players have grown up watching the Knicks suck and they aren't cool anymore

Out of Bridges and KAT, KAT is the much much more unique and rare player. His shot and touch is absolutely beautiful for an NBA player let alone seven footer. I don't see us giving cat up for a thirty seven year old injury prone durant. Bridges + on the other hand I could absolutely see.

Im just not good with the higher risk of Durant considering age and injury history.

Could it end up working out? Of course it could but I feel safer with the top 12 MVP level play of a 7 footer who is 6-7 years younger. Who will also probably be better utilized defensively by the next coach.

Durant for Bridges, Hart and Mitch then get a half decent defensive center for maybe the MLE? I would prefer other paths but that I could be more on board with.

-OR-

KAT for KD as part 1 and then Bridges + a pick or 2 for JJJ? That would be very interesting roster construction. Then part 3 is McBride, Kolek, Dadiet and PJ for Divo.

JJJ/Mitch /Huk
KD/JJJ/MLE
OG/KD/Hart/MLE
Divo/Hart/Wright
Brunson/Divo/Wright

Wowwww.....

The salaries don't match.

KD makes $54.7 million
Mikal and Mitch together make $37.9 million

Any Knicks/Suns trade requires a third team because neither the Knicks or the Suns could take on more salary than the other.

OG/Mitch/Kolek for KD is the closest you can get to match salaries and because it's merely 7 thousand dollars off, the trade still doesn't go through

Only way that trade works is if one of Mikal, Mitch, or Hart goes to a 3rd team for a player that makes less in salary.

Also, because of the 2nd apron rules, Suns have to receive LESS than KD's salary. So the Suns would get the player from the 3rd team.

Suns are also only allowed to trade KD and cannot attach any other players

A trade with KAT is much less complicated because you only have to attach a minimum salary player who would go to a 3rd team

I don't want to give up any of our players to be honest, but if I had to choose, I rather trade KAT and filler for KD than give up 3 of our core guys for KD.

It would be much easier to recover from losing KAT and finding rotation players at Center, than it would be to find rotation players who can replace what Mikal, Josh, and Mitch do.

I'm riding with the team either way. We should have fun next season regardless of what happens with the roster.

Ideally we want a C that can hit the open 3, get boards, and block some shots. KAT does 2 of those things at an elite level. Mitch does 2 at an elite level. Easy to find a 1 category guy, hard to find a 2 cat, only 3 cat I know is Thomas Bryant vs Knicks.

KD would likely sign a 2 year, $120 million extension with the Knicks

He would expire the same time as KAT, and be a FA in the Summer of 2028

He won't block too many shots shots, but Sandro Mamukelashvili from the Spurs lit us up last year for 34 points

Last 18 games of the season, his numbers were 17.4 mpg, 10.4 ppg on 49/37/78 shooting splits, 4.8 rpg, 1.3 apg and a total of 8 steals and 6 blocks

He is an unrestricted free agent and the Spurs apparently renounced their bird rights on him

It should be interesting to see if he goes for more than the taxpayer MLE this summer

I'll pass on a soon to be 37 y/o, coach killing KD. The vibes around teams he's on just seems off, always some drama

use Josh Hart and Mitch, and whatever picks we have left to upgrade the roster. that's at least 32.4M being sent out (+ use Kolek, Dadiet, Huk, Deuce, and can send out up to 43.7M not including potential S&T of our current cap holds)

I'd like to keep the core of Jalen, KAT, OG, and Mikal in tact one more season. it well pretty well considering how late the KAT trade occurred in the offseason, not much time to mesh

Hart, for his salary, just isn't enough of a net positive in playoff basketball where half court offense is even more important. would be tough to get rid of another Brunson ally (mitigated maybe if we can find a way to get Donte back, who'd be perfect at the 2), but they're in the endgame now, it's all about winning a ring, personal relationships be damned

Swap not worth the age risk AND KD is only under contract control 1 year vs. Up to 3 more for KAT.

cap space could be a plus...

KD would likely sign a 2 year, $120 million extension with the Knicks

He would expire the same time as KAT, and be a FA in the Summer of 2028

or... he could get a player option for a year 2, not pick it up and we mutually part ways...
