Has us picking
2 Harper
14 Wolf, a C
Interestingly, Suns pick Wemby's beffie Raynaud, also a C
38 Martin, a G
We need pure 3s shooters...

Seeing more posts about Spurs either trading out of this spot or drafting Harper for another team. Interesting.
EDIT: Here's another one, hmm...

Unless there's a can't - pass - up Godfather offer, we take advantage of a can't - pass - up #2 rated pick in Harper ourselves. Win win:

Reports are that Flaag killed it in his workouts with Dallas. That makes it more of a chance with their current GM they will pass on him and call him fat. He could still be ours.
Also, I'm still sitting on this pic for draft day

Re: 2025 SPURS DRAFT - PING PONG BALLS, PROSPECTS, PICKS
Now that the dream of Kevin Durant is over, lets look at the Spurs options in the draft:
#2 - Dylan Harper (no discussion)
#14 - My preference is for Raynaud. He is a shooting big. He partially makes up for deficiencies elsewhere on the roster. Fox/Harper/Castle all have a tendency and preference to drive first and it is likely that 2 of them will be on the floor at all times. I then want shooting from at least 2 spots, Wemby when he is on the floor and Renaud when he is not. Then you have Barnes at the 4/5 and you can play Sochan at the 3/4. Now the amount of playing time for a secondary big is like 12-15 minutes per game so you would not be placing unrealistic expectations on a rookie.
With a combo of Fox/Vassell/Castle/Barnes/Wemby as the starting 5 and then Harper/Keldon/Champagnie/Sochan/Renaud as the 2nd 5, you have scoring in both units. Now I expect the Spurs to bring in a veteran big man but with the MLE, you are not bringing in a scoring big. You are getting a bruiser for the MLE or a part of it as shooting big men get paid significantly more. Spurs can now look at using part of the MLE on a 2nd/3rd big + a big wing (my preference is Dean Wade at around $6m and you will be doing a favor for the Cavs and get some draft capital to sweeten the deal)
#2 - Dylan Harper (no discussion)

Re: 2025 SPURS DRAFT - PING PONG BALLS, PROSPECTS, PICKS
Now looking at the other options at #14, I see the following in order of preference:
(1) Essengue. Spurs tried drafting a long wing last year but were blindsided by the Hornets who took Salaun. If they have a chance again, they would do it.
(2) Sorber. Has a lot there to work with. Would require the Spurs to get a veteran big who is playable as Sorber might not be ready anytime next season.
(3) Fleming. Could be usable early. Not a center and unlikely to be ready from the start of the season but interesting tools.
(4) Beringer. Run/Jump/Block very raw center prospect but has some tools.
Now all the players I have mentioned other than Essengue is likely to be available in the 15-25 range however, why would the Spurs risk losing someone they believe in simply because the consensus value on these players might be lower. It only requires one team to believe in a player to muck up your plans. Look at the Hornets and Saluan last year.
I've excluded the following:
- Newell. Too limited.
- Queen. Will be gone by pick 14.
- Murray-Boyles. Not a fit for the Spurs
- Kalkbrenner - Second rounder who I would take in the second if he is available.

2nd Round - Yang, Niederhausen, etc. Any big classic #5. We need such a player on the roster as a developmental prospect.

Get over it! Champaigne will get a 4 year 40 million deal this off-season and I for one applaud it! (Understanding you are just kidding)

If it's for us, then someone or two or three is/are gone.
Great scorer. Big body. Arm length for days. Older, more experienced.

Re: 2025 SPURS DRAFT - PING PONG BALLS, PROSPECTS, PICKS
Honestly, if the Spurs draft Coward or any SG/SF prospect, I think I will have to stop posting for a month. It would be dumber than dumb, irrespective of the talent available.
After #2, which isn't an immediate need, the Spurs need to draft exclusively players who can play the PF/C positions. Anything else is simply thumbing their nose at Wemby in terms of trying to be competitive in the coming years.
